You guys probably know more than me, to be honest. I only got to have a quick bash in multiplayer - the plays were ticketed and the tickets were gone by like 6 minutes after the event opened for the day, so there was no chance of a second go.

I figured that might be the case as even at Gamescom or maybe it was another event the wait to play was like 4+ hours. Which weapon did you go for?

I went for Great Sword as I wanted to feel comfortable with something simple. I also chose a longsword, which I guess was on my Seikret, but I never got around to using it.

I've watched a lot of content that's for sure, but I'm hopeless at names like I'm calling Quematrice the Fire Chicken, cool to see as we've had the chicken that throws things (Kulu-Ya-Ku). Then I don't know all the mechanics of the game and so on.
Though if I come on to a Mash, which feel might be more likely this time as think play more with the boys with Wilds then did Rise or I know more playing being on PS5. As I've not been on since the Rise episode with Smurf etc that can talk about hey Rise clicked, went back to World, played Now & Stories 2 (Still not played Stories one so that as well), and I'm still kinda keen to get Iceborne, yet knowing Wilds is just 4 months away and a lot of games not sure when I'd fit in.

So, with Christmas money I got early I bought myself a ps2 with the original Monster Hunter and I've put about 10 hours into it so far.
In that ten hours I've fought two large monsters Velocidrome and Yian Kut-ku then the rest has been gathering quests etc, I'm not sure if the progress is so slow because it's a game from 2004 or they are trying to immerse you in the world of being a hunter.....I'm leaning toward that it's a bit of both.
The right analog stick to attack controls aren't as bad as I thought they'd be, I've only used Sword & shield (you have to start with this weapon) and Lance which have pretty basic inputs so it just about gets away with it. Buttons to attack would obviously be better because the biggest issue this set up causes is very poor camera control which is on the d-pad & having to constantly re-centre the camera behind you with L1 or you break your hand and do this.
I'm enjoying my time with it but it's definitely only one for the die hards, I also still hope they give us some sort of collection because it'd be really nice to see the controls updated and the online functionality restored for the older games.

I would like to go back and dabble with 1 and Dos, but I've never owned a PS2.
I'm excited for the beta as I missed the first one and only played a brief demo in a crowded hall in Japanese so far.

I imagine it'd be quite easy to pick up a ps2 in Japan eh?
I'll definitely give the second beta a go as well but don't think I'll be putting in the same amount of time as the first given that it's largely the same.

Oh also one thing I've enjoyed about playing on a ps2 recently is not having the always online nature that we have with current consoles, just you and the game you decide to play with zero distractions. Ahh simpler times.

Found it
I may try the BETA on the laptop, just to see how it runs, especially as I've heard it's not well optimised on PC.

Ahh yeah that did pop up on my YT feed, used to watch that channel years and years ago but it's not quite been the same since the original dude left it.
Also hope you're ready for this on your laptop

I'm honestly expecting that or close to it. From the 1st BETA, it was PS5 that only ran well and saying well is a stretch.

I wouldn't go that far ps5 was more than fine and I think the PC side of things were blown out of proportion especially because of the above screenshots.

That was the first time I've seen those screenshots but did watch some play on PC and even with good rigs couldn't get performance right from the game which to me is the game not optimised.
And I found playing it on base PS5 not to be great experience, as I said on the what you've bought thread, when I did see people who had played on Pro and the performance was improved, I was sold.
I do think it's the RE Engine as DD2 doesn't run great either, which is open-world compared to a Resident Evil that's linear.

Hmm that sounds like some user error to me then because I also saw a bunch of folk with good PC rigs run it really well. You're right about the RE engine though as I hear it isn't built or the best for open world like environments, but I think it'll be fine in the long run especially when the recent round of previews already mentioned it ran better which isn't surprising considering the beta is a much older build of the game. (either pre-summer game fest or around that time)

I'm new to the whole PC thing, and myself just kinda left at what a game defaults to, but had a bit of a play and can see how you could mess it up.
Like NVIDIA app has an optimised mode (based on specs that show up in the app) which Indy shows up in it (not all games seem to, is an NVIDIA splash screen when Indy loads). I tried it, and it set everything to Supreme settings, and I was getting 11fps very unoptimized. That I just went back to what was working. Where I was hoping it would go well you can have hair on high, shadows on low, reflections medium and umm optimise the game.
And @EofGizmo pointed out to me a Humble Bundle deal on at the moment, yet I don't really need Rise or World on STEAM. I'd only really want the discount voucher for Stories, which Giz did try to send to me, unfortunately can't do that.

This is sort of off topic but am I the only one who goes straight to a games options first when playing a new game? I see default settings as a starting point you then customise to your preference and not just a "this is how the devs intended it to be played" option.

Yeah even on PS5 often go into the settings and change to performance mode 9/10 times, with maybe the odd other tweak.
Just on PC, it's like so many options like loaded up Starfield to play Shattered Space and everything was low and off. Now may might be the settings it thinks, but I had the game running in Ultra at okay framerate but did drop to high.
And now actually playing a game on PS5 in quality mode, as a slower pace.
