I suppose if they were just video-game fans they'd subconsciously draw upon other works rather than thinking outside of the box in that special Nintendo way.

That sounds like a great approach for a company that values work-life balance! Which I didn't think Nintendo did particularly...

I was thinking more in terms of that being a healthy approach to making games. The work-life balance is less of a Nintendo problem and more of a Japanese cultural thing, as far as I'm aware.
