| Bloody hell, it's 2017. The barriers of time, internet speeds, and even the consoles we play on often kept us apart in 2016 eh? So I thought, how about a thread devoted to friendly score attack, time attack, and other challenges for a touch of good ol GNamer good cheer and sportsmanship. Here's a few games that I think, if a few people were up for, I could make manage a fun little thread about. - Mario Kart:
Obvs mate.
- Rocket League, PES, Sports:
I think a lot of us own this one, and there are plenty of game modes that could work nicely in some sort of little GNamer league format. 1v1, 2v2, etc. I know there's cross play between both consoles and steam, but I'm not sure if match making between different consoles is possible because I don't think the you can buddy up across platforms.
PES is another game a few of us own, so a little round robin tournament could be a laugh.
Fun forfeits could include putting your GNamer signature on the line for a month
Here's a few non-traditional possibilities: - Dark Souls/Hitman or The Rush challenges:
Not one for those who get in a tizzy about ludo-narrative dissonance here, and I don't know how to balance this BUT.
Assuming we can all upload share footage of DaS III fairly easily, it could be quite fun to have a GNamer Boss Rush. So the idea would be, everybody uploads their video of them beating a boss to some file sharing site. Only the success will count towards your time. Once the submissions are in, I'd splice together a video which has the entrants run simultaneously, revealing the winners of the boss at the end.
It could be quite interesting to see how differently people approach the bosses and be a fun little bragging right for the winner? Obvs depends on whether people are up for going through a Souls game again and I haven't even thought about how Sun Bros and that would work, but knowing you lot some might be up for a Souls challenge. But ovs, the boss rush idea could apply to any number of games, and doesn't have to involve a boss.
It could involve performing a Hitman contract with a few specific objectives in the shortest possible time or whatevs, trevs
- Devil Dagger, or the Survival of the Fittest:
Picking Devil Daggers as an example here as it is cheap and should run on pretty much any PC, not that I've checked it's requirements mind.
It is an arena shooter of Quake ilk, the challenge is to survive as long as you can. This is one of those - just - one - more - try - kind of games, but it could be cool to have a weekly/monthly/somethingly competition about who got the best score for the month. No one'd need upload anything more than their score and I'm sure there are a host of games this'd work for.
Anyway, don't want to bore anyone with a load of my finest waffles. Any traditional or non-traditional suggestions are welcome on any platform. It's a shame we don't always have the time or the right consoles or whatever to play games with/against each other, but hopefully we can get something out of this thread as a means of catering for some chucklesome competition down the line if anyone's up for it? Oops, multiple tabs open and ended up posting this in Off-Topic. Intended for the Community Section, Natch. |

| I am very much up for this! I fondly remember our constant score war on Resi 4's Mercenaries mode. Still have my Wii copy, in fact! |

| This sounds quality especially the ideas for PES, DaS and Hitman. - Muss wrote:

Do you mean using sun bros in your boss rush? Sounds like that'd slow ye down if anything so I'd suggest we play in offline mode. |

| Could be fun as we have tried it before with SMASH etc but only seems to last awhile maybe when the Switch comes out people will want to play Kart 8+ again for instance. |

| @Jaster
I probably used the wrong terms there. I had the fact that I'd never beaten the Chuckle Bros from DaS 1 without the assistance of Solaire in mind. So I wasn't sure how people would want to factor, or not factor, that Solaire and friends in.
@Mas
I did have a look around before writing the thread up, thought there'd been a few attempts and that which is cool. Interest comes and goes which is understandable, but hopefully some of the unorthadox approaches to competition we can come up with might appeal to enough of us to get something worthwhile out of it. |

| Moved to GNamer Community forum, by sort of request. Would also like to mention Runbow. And say that this is a mighty fine idea! It's going to be good to have a single thread to head to when one wants some gentlemanly competition. |

| Runbow's an excellent shout. Never got my hands on it, but it I'm sure it's worth a look in the before Switch days. |

| RIGHT LISTEN UP YOU GAMES NERDS.March is soon approaching. I know there are doubters amongst you, and not everyone is as excited as me, but I'm very much anticipating the big release. I've been a fan my entire life, and a new launch is always exciting. Sure, I might look back on it from the future and realise it was disappointing, but in the run-up to launch and the initial thrill, there is nothing more thrilling than a new King Kong movie. In preparation for King Kong appreciation month, I'm going to try and actually get the ball rolling on this thread by throwing down a gauntlet. It's a game most of you should have available in some form or another, be it Virtual Console on Wii, Wii U, 3DS, an actual NES or GBA cartridge, Animal Crossing or who knows what. What's your high score on the NES version of Donkey Kong?Post a pic for proof and your score and I'll make a leaderboard in this post. I'm gonna have a go this evening and tomorrow and we'll see what we can do. |

| Bloody hell! I've just seen that on the 3DS you can download the NES one, or the original arcade one with the extra level. I'm playing on Wii (via the Wii U Wii mode) because I'm not paying £4 for Donkey Kong again. |

| I might own it on Wii, but I've not a clue where my Wii is. I could... obtain it elsewhere. |

| You can actually get the pie factory level on the 3DS? That should have made national news, let alone a mention in the VC thread. I do have the 3 level version though - I'm-a give it a go on Saturday. |

| I don't mean to alarm you all, but I had but one go on Saturday morning, and it was the best I've ever done ever, in 30 years. *holds cards close to chest* *posts score in a couple of days only to find that it's still less than half what everyone else got* |

| I am very out of practice! I finally got round to having a pop this evening, and let's just say I'm no Steve Wiebe. - Spoiler:
I will keep trying, obviously. Hoping I can at least break 100k before I give up on this pish. I'll probably just do one or two attempts a day, in the evening when I'd normally play Tites or Sploon. |

| Right - I've finally sat down to do this. Drunka, I admit I forgot what score you got (I thought it was - Spoiler:
70000-ish
), so I thought I was still behind. However, this is after what I think is now 30 years off/on practice: - Spoiler:
Yes, it's higher, but I suspect you (or ANYONE ELSE IF THEY'D LIKE TO JOIN IN ) will be able to trounce that easy-peasy-like. EDIT: Playing Donkey Kong like this has got the gears turning... |

Have you watched King of Kong? I'd recommend it to anyone into games. |

| King of Kong is ace, and I second Drunka's recommendation. What is not ace is Donkey Kong itself - it's shit and my opinion is by no way coloured by my score. THERE'S NO CORRELATION AT ALL BETWEEN MY OPINION AND MY SCORE SHUT UP |
