I've been meaning to share some stuff from Portia for a while and keep forgetting but this seems like the perfect opportunity to post this chilled out tune in the Summer month.

Hmm . . . more spring to me, if I'm being honest. Far too much energy for summer, which to me is a very sluggish month.

This is a very chill one. This is like, the second day of a summer vacation, when you've gotten the chores out of the way, you don't have any plans yet, and you're sitting outside with a cool, citrussy beverage. Aah . . .

This one is really fun! At first, I didn't really feel a specific "summer" connection, but it's all in the percussion.

This one has more of what I consider a summer vibe- fun but relaxed. This is a stroll by some water with a big hat to protect your head and an ice cream that you want to savour but which is melting all-too-quickly.

I mean, it is a spring tune! I just can't stand the bee noises in the Summer one, which is indeed more chill.

That Portia music reminds me a lot of Animal Crossing at the start, then evolves into something a bit more. I like it. Thumbs Up!

Here are some summer tunes which come to mind for me.

That obvious marimba beach sound, but it's real nice. Very Mario Sunshiney, I'm sure you'll agree.

A similar vibe to the previous one, but Sun and Moon's whole soundtrack was the most summery thing you ever heard and this track is my go-to when I want to represent Alola.

This music is okay as a basic sound file, but when you burst out of the muted underwater version into the sun and the sax really hits. . . oh yeah. That's like the feeling of arriving home from work on the first day of a summer break. Magical.

I actually hate fighting Byte and Barq, so it's a real shame that their stage, with the summer beach vibes and the odd island in the middle, is one of the best in the game.

I'll be giving my full views when I have more time, but Dolphin Shoals is a belter so that's one winning choice at least.

EDIT: Lurelin Village is an interesting: I think it's got too much of that haunting BotW quality to it to be truly chilled and relaxing. The world's dying around you, which kind of reduces the relaxation. That said, when the flute comes in, that's some real WW stuff right there and that works for me.

Iki Town is very summery. Nice! And B&B is pure volleyball - you could put the main ARMS theme under this heading actually, I reckon.

ARMS had a terrific soundtrack and I'm 95% confident one of the main reasons we've got an ARMS rep in Smash is that we can get some remixes from it.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but - there are a grand total of two remixes, and the rest is all original soundtrack rips. Aww! I'm properly gutted by that - people like Banjo got roughly eleventeen remixes each, and then an actual Nintendo character gets a measly two (main theme and Ramen Bowl).

If you were feeling uncharitable, of course, you could say that all of ARMS' soundtrack is remixes of itself...

I'd say that's more to do with the fact that Banjo's greatest hits were on the N64, and therefore the sound quality of the music wasn't automatically high - it was an excuse to remake things; whereas Arms being a recent thing sounds classier.

Also the Banjo Kazooie music is ace, stop it

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not denying its aceness, and it is nice that they've upped the sound quality - but that's not all they've done! Listening to it, they've used different instrumentation and worked in other themes in places. It's really quite clever. That's the sort of thing I'm sad they haven't done with the ARMS music, although again you could level that at there not being other themes to work in. Suspect

And to be honest, it's very easy to work one Grant Kirkhope song into another. (Db G7 C)

As it's still in the thread's name, the title theme for Rocket League's Summer 2018 event is a perfect summer tune.

I must have listened to this fifty times when it first came out. Love it.

That is properly summery electronica there, with hints of calypso.  Very nice.

I know he's got a signature style, but don't think I ever clocked a signature chord progression beyond MMM's Cm -> F#m.  I think I use C -> Db quite a lot myself - subconscious inspiration? Eh?

You can read elsewhere about how I thought Monster Boy was a great game that didn't quite manage to be truly special.  One thing I did think was special was the soundtrack.  Here are some of my favourite most hummable melodies - apart from Skullrock Beach which I've deluged y'all with plenty before (did u know it's a remake of a Wonder Boy track!?!?!?).

Most great soundtracks show their hands early on - think Celeste's intro, Banjo-Kazooie's Spiral Mountain, or Mario Odyssey's triumphant menu theme.  I'll go on about that beach music until somebody forcibly stops me, but here's the traditional 'green' theme - full of chirp, and the 'doo doo do doo' at the beginning even reminds me a bit of Katamari.  Not an opener, but what an opener it would have been!

Crystal Caves, the level's called.  The music's a bit too upbeat to capture the feeling of freezing to death - that's why it's in Monster Boy, not Hollow Knight.  Still feels frosty though.

Anyone else get a Xenoblade vibe from this piece?  That's no bad thing - all violin and piano-fuelled exploration theme.

Hello dramatic set piece!  I love the gameplay that accompanies this, and the music has a hint of the Outer Rings to it, which is fitting.  Very nice.

Please have a listen and tell me if these only work in context - or alternatively, if you played the Wonder Boy games and recognise more remixes.  I think there are more in there, and I've probably missed them!  (Also: holy change in art style, Batman.)
