| I did vote for Metal Gear Solid V which looks like it was about 13th, shame as it's such a great game and it's not like Persona 5 which is a bit more niche.
I'm thinking number 1 is Breath of the Wild which is a tad odd as Super Mario Odyssey was the Number 1 Switch game, but if this was a Switch vote I'd be voting for Super Mario Odyssey where here it wouldn't be close to my decade games. |

| As it should be.The people who love BotW love it more than the other format games they’ve played. I imagine it won’t be the same for SMO. Simple as that. Anyway, this is all speculation right now: let’s see what happens rather than stealing Jay’s thunder. Yes I know I wasn’t helping. |

| Jay heard my thoughts on number 8 perfectly clearly last night...
Also whilst Ghost Trick was robbed, even if I’d been more serious with my votes after the top 5 I wouldn’t have remembered to vote for it, didn’t feel like the right decade. |

Don't be scabs, GNamer. (GRcade did get the top game right though.) LITERALLY IN THIS THREAD |

Jas you all. I know............I didn't leave any individual comments for each game in my personal top ten but I did end with a message saying that a chunk of my list could change very easily for a couple reasons, either I forget about ones (like Ghost Trick) or ask me on another day and I could probably do a different top ten of games I love just as much. I get the appeal but this is also why I've never been that keen on making lists like these. ---- Yeah....Bloodborne definitely deserves to be at least in the top 5, while that same great souls template is there to see it does so many other superb things to set it apart & make it stand out on it's own merits. Actually it actually irks me slightly when I see folk use the term "soulsborne series" because when you break them down in terms of combat they are so different. |

I voted for Ground Zeroes instead, so it's a bit like the Monster Hunter situation! |

| Nice to see Bloodborne make it in. I didn't vote for New Leaf, but it's a cracking little game too and definitely deserves a spot in the top ten. Mass Effect 2 I've never played but consistently hear it's people's favourite. |

| Let's keep it going! - 6th:
The Witcher 3 - 23 points (four votes, one first place)You say: "Good writing, great world, might have charted higher if CD Projekt Red didn’t treat their staff like shit." "The definitive open world game. Phenomenal." I say: This game, much like Bloodborne has been staring at me from my backlog for years now. I'm almost intimidated by the size of its world, but by all accounts, it's one of the best open worlds in video games with some cracking quests to get your teeth sunk into.
- 5th:
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - 28 points (six votes)You say: "Everyone is here! Smash Bros deserves a place on any list it's eligible for, the perfect celebration of Nintendo and with this version gaming as a whole. The world of light is brilliant even though it's basically just a series of fights, it manages to make most battles feel different enough and often clever when you consider what they're referencing." "All your smash are belong to this game. A wonderful anthology of Nintendo nostalgia & friends." "Sometimes, it's been rubbish being a Nintendo fan - the boredom scars from Chibi Robo Zip Lash, Mario Tennis Ultra Smash and Animal Crossing amiibo Festival are still too fresh. But, if ever you needed reminding about what’s so good about Nintendo, just fire into Smash Ultimate. It's as brilliant a fighter as it is a commercial smash, made even better by having the best characters in gaming (except all those JRPG folk, they’re fucking dogshite)." "There's too much of this game! Too much! So many things to learn! And what a big giant celebration of all things Nintendo - in fact all things videogames! Exclamation mark!" "I would be a bit iffy about including this so high up in 'top Switch games', or 'top games of 2018', because it builds so much on what came before. If instead we consider it in the context of the decade, as the culmination of what started in SSB4, it looks tremendous. Before that we had Mêlée, starting to show its age; and Brawl, slow and ponderous with mechanics nobody asked for. Fast-forward to the end of the 2010s and we have Ultimate, with its slick speedy fighting, its enormous Spirit Mode, and its stupid amount of characters and courses (and items and music and and...). Sakurai you are an utter madman: stop developing DLC and go get some rest!" I say: God, I love this video game. It can be a frenetic and hilarious party game to while away a few hours with mates, a fun and engaging single player brawler with arguably the best single-player content that the series has seen or a more focused fighter with a stupendously big roster full of great characters. I genuinely don't see where they go from here with Smash - more DLC is probably the right play at this stage!
- 4th:
Super Mario Odyssey - 31 points (five votes)You say: "It's a celebration of itself, an ode to all of Mario's previous glories wrapped around itself. I personally didn't like the Galaxy games as much as most (i.e. I thought they were only Really Really Good), mostly due to the linear level structures - this game went back to the best parts of Mario 64's running jumping treasure hunts. Oh, and, officially: Pauline > Daisy > Peach > Rosalina, DeviantArt fans." "A game that can be - and has been - enjoyed by players of all ages and experience, all over the world. A bonafide classic in my mind, and I’m confident that I’ll feel the same about Super Mario Odyssey for many years to come." "Sunshine! Galaxy! 3D World! Nah. This is the follow-up that those of us who grew up exploring the dales of Bob-Omb Battlefield, thinking it was bigger than anything we'd experienced in gaming thus far, had been waiting for. That might just be me, but I don't care. The semi-open-world Mario I'd lusted after for 21 years." "After traveling around the Galaxy the question of where next was always gonna be a difficult one to answer but they did a cracking job. Opted for the more open approach which I personally prefer and was full of secrets and surprises in a number of fun stages and set pieces." I say: You can't go wrong with Mario. There's that common analogy of how Nintendo has a ton of ideas in their Mario games that could fuel an entire adventure for a lesser game, but Nintendo has them appear for only a level or two. I don't think that's ever rang more true than with Odyssey.

| The Witcher 3 is a brilliant game. However, I just restarted it with a view towards finishing the dlc and it does feel old. It was never the best looking game, but since having things like Red Dead 2 come out you look at this and think, that's a bit rough. It doesn't change the fact that it's incredibly well written with solid gameplay. There's just an initial inertia with it. |

| I started Witcher 3 recently, but got distracted by other games mainly as I know in 10hrs let's say today playing Kentucky Route Zero, I'll get that finished where in Witcher 3 I'll get not a lot done.
I think it looks great but the combat feels a tad old now |

Anyone who voted for SMO below MK8 is as right as Cappa’s opinion of Ghost Trick - that is, not at all. |

| It's the grand finale. - 3rd:
Dark Souls - 33 points (four votes)You say: "Never heard of it. Oh wait. This one. Made such an impact, the sequels felt like copies. I ignored this at first, as, from the early adopters, it sounded like an unfair version of an old-school action game. But, for the most part (the most part mind) the ability to "git gud" was satisfying." "A shining example of what videogames can be – a genuine work of art with a strong holistic approach to story, gameplay, tone and character. There’s a very good reason people still haven’t stopped talking about it." I say: A masterclass in world design and esoteric storytelling. A game that isn't afraid to be hard or obtuse, but rewards perseverance and grants a sense of satisfaction upon beating unlike any other game I've played. I'd argue that in terms of inspiring other games, this genuinely might be the most important game of the decade. It's certainly one I won't ever forget.
- 2nd:
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 34 points (six votes, one first place)You say: "The most complete Mario Kart yet, the perfect early game for the Switch and still doing the numbers now. Always fun to dip in and out of and even better with a few friends either on or offline." "Endlessly fun to play. Between Wii U and Switch, I’m well over the 200 hour mark and not inclined to stop. People around to enjoy videogames? Spot of Mario Kart. Can’t decide what to play? Plug away at those 200cc staff ghosts." "The ultimate karting game; would genuinely buy DLC packs for it forever." "Deservedly the best selling game on two consoles; deservedly my vote for Game of the Decade. It’s been a good decade for the big man." "The best Mario Kart! They got everything right, in that it's fun for everyone to play, but also great for serious racing and time trialling. The DLC was fantastic too. I happily bought this all twice. I hope they don't announce another game soon - I don't know how they can top this." "I remain amazed by this effort. To think that Nintendo created the best Mario Kart of all time, with excellent track design and genuinely appealing DLC; then made it portable and corrected the few issues it had... This is pretty much a perfect game, with its major problem being: where do Nintendo go with Mario Kart 9? The only way is towards something completely new, surely: any attempt to riff off the old would no doubt come second-best, and could (and should) be done as DLC for this marvel instead." I say: I must admit - personally, I'm a wee bit disappointed that this one charted so high and I can't help but feel that it landed so highly by the fact that everybody and their mum has played Mario Kart. But, removing any personal bias, that's exactly why it deserves to be amongst the best games of the decade. Mario Kart is something anyone can enjoy with little effort and this is Mario Kart perfected. Much like SSBU, it's difficult to see where they go from here.
- And the GNamer Game of the Decade is...:
Vroom in the Night Sky - 79 points (nine votes, six first place votes ) You say: "Personally, I don't think the Switch would have sold as well as it did had this not been an early standout on the eShop." "In 2020, I too will become a magical girl." "Heralded by many as the first "Vrooming" game, I think this will lead to a bright future for the genre." I say: Alright, I'm already bored of this bit. Here's what you all knew was coming... - The real winner:
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 83 points (nine votes, six first place votes)You say: "The best game ever made, I could quite happily search every single inch of Hyrule and I don't think I'd ever get bored. If ever I was going to call a game a piece of art then Breath of the Wild is that, everything is made with such attention to detail and the whole world just works together so naturally, something I've never seen any other game do to this extent." "They did it. The crazy sons of bitches they did it. They made an open world game and a Zelda game at the same time. The big worlds that Bethesda do, but without the repetitive quest structure. Surprising secrets round every corner. Spinch and his horse Spinch! My biggest regret about my backlog is that I don't know where to fit in a month or so to play this game again. If you don't like this game, I don't think you know what fun is." "It’s one of the most indescribably amazing and unforgettable games I’ve ever played. It’s a rare, special type of game that only comes along a couple of times a generation, and it’s destined to go down in history as one of the all-time classics. Looking back, it’s very fair and accurate to say that this was the Beach Spikers: Virtua Beach Volleyball of the 2010s." "This is the best game ever made, obviously, but in the years since release it has confirmed itself as also my personal favourite game." "I've not actually talked about why I love it much, just about what I don't like. It's a marriage of a lot of things, but if there's one thing I can point to, it's how walking over the (hand-crafted non-procgen) surface reminds me of my childhood walks through the countryside, only with an added dash of adventure. Running (or riding) over the geographical ripples, enjoying the scenery, taking in the way that each hill is put there for a reason. Then when the scope of the landscape gets a bit much, you can go to the towns or stables, bustling outlets of activity like in more traditional Zeldas, for concentrated blasts of gameplay and character. It's got it all, besides the 'proper dungeons' that BotW2 will deliver on. Will it manage to recreate the magic though? I think not." "Breath of the Wild is a landmark of landmarks, a masterclass in systems design and emergent gameplay in an open world, and probably the best game ever made." I say: It made open word video games feel like a genuine adventure again as opposed to a checklist and a sprawl of icons. It inspired a sense of wonder in me unlike any other video game and I could happily start a second playthrough again and spend another hundred hours in Hyrule if I didn't have so many other games to play. This is 100% the Game of the Decade. The right result.

| It wasn't even close was it? If one thing is clear from this vote it's that Switch is a bit popular around these parts and rightly so. No surprise with number 1, every comment with those votes is accurate, quite surprised by number 2 but makes perfect sense. There's a few games in this top 10 that I really need to around to playing soon, Dark Souls and The Witcher bring top of that list. |

I will say one thing, though: Mario Kart 8 is genuinely really good and deserved to chart highly. I don't see it as a disappointing 2nd place at all, especially for this forum who all came together to play it loads. |
