Comfortably the most earth-shattering news from yesterday's Game Awards was the announcement Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection. They're describing as an all-new adventure in the series and is launching on 25th February 2021.
Furthermore, The Met Office reported seismic shifts from John 'o Groats to Lands End when Capcom Arcade Museum was announced too.
It'll launch with a free copy of 1943: The Battle of Midway, which quite frankly is much better than any of the utter dogshite you're supposedly looking forward to next year. This is what I'm after now, how about youse?

I have a weird nostalgia for G&G despite never actually enjoying playing one of them.
That Capcom arcade thing might be good for a laugh.

It's nice to finally see Capcom working on multiple all-new games across multiple IPs on Switch. Come on Ace Attorney...

Yup I'm up for a new Ghosts n Goblins game but I'm a bit less sure of that Arcade collection, hopefully the whole pick and choose your own bundles won't be as bad as it sounds on paper.

I think the last ghosts n goblins game I played was the PSP version when I was at uni. Fun games but I remember sucking pretty hard them tbh

I'm absolutely rubbish at the Ghost 'N Goblins games too, but I think I'd be better at them if they'd introduced a more gradual learning curve, rather than having you learn by your mistakes by losing hundreds of lives. That's probably what'll put me off this 2021 Resurrection. The way the trailer emphasised death after death after death didn't fill me with hope that this'll be anything other than stupidly hard.
The Arcade Museum is a little bit of a mixed bag for me as well. On paper, there's tons of belters in those three DLC packs, lots of stuff there that I'd hoped Hamster would port as an Arcade Archive. In this collection, they're a lot more interesting than that. I'm looking forward to Carrier Air Wing the most - it's a sequel to U.N. Squadron that's never been ported anywhere since it came out over three decades ago.
Yet there's a lot of duplication between Arcade Museum and Capcom's other Switch collections. A lot of the audience for this will no doubt already have those three Street Fighter games through the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary collection and they'll already have Final Fight, Captain Commando, Warriors of Fate and Battle Circuit in the Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle.
I've also got a feeling that they're holding back too. Fair enough, that might be for future DLC packs, but don't forget that Capcom made stuff like Rival Schools, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, Saturday Night Slam Masters and Power Stone. The company has dozens of arcade games that don't seem to ever appear, but they plainly should, because they're absolutely brilliant.
Still, lookin forward to this, and those points I (drunkenly) made in the opening post still stand

I didn't want to say this, because I didn't want to come dragging negativity into a new thread, but... yep, this. Also his weird skittering run that makes me think this'll be a horribly slow bugger. Still, as I say, nice to see Capcom bringing more all-new titles to Switch.

That would be quality if they all made it in but especially Power stone as a new one of that is so long overdue it's ridiculous.

I have to also be a bit negative about Ghosts n Goblins - I'd normally be pleased about any old thing getting a brand new coat of paint for the 20s, but they've basically advertised it as being as unfair as the original. While we're listing things Capcom also made: the Zelda Oracle games...

I'm also weirdly fond of GnG despite being utterly gash at it. It was a game I watched my dad play when I was much younger, so that's probably a big part of it. He's actually beaten Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts which is mind-boggling to me considering how shite he is at any modern game.
I'm not sold on the art style though. I really liked the pixel art of the original game on SNES, but maybe the new art style will work better when actually playing the game as opposed to being put through the wringer of YouTube's compression.
As for the Arcade collection, it reminds me a lot of the Xbox Live Arcade thing they did back on the 360 days. Not one for me, but should be good for arcade fans!

Capcom’s social media teams had been ignoring everybody who’d messaged them this month about Arcade Stadium, and now we know why: they’re very rude (and also because it’s surprise-launched after the Nintendo Direct).
1943 is still going to be permanently free, and the first Ghost ‘n Goblins from the mid-80s is going to be free until next week. That’s all I’ve downloaded so far, and I think it’s worth everybody checking out. There’s loads of options and settings to tinker about with – all the modern conveniences are here, arguably making these games much more enjoyable today. Even typing that last point out seems contentious, but let’s be honest: nobody’s sitting down in 2021 to practice 1943 or Ghost ‘n Goblins.
All three packs cost £29.99, which was cheaper than I was expecting. Hopefully this isn’t all they’re going to release, but even if it is I think there’s enough happening here to justify the cost. It’s still slightly disappointing that there’s so many duplicates of games you can already easily get digitally on Switch/PS/Xbox though.

Actually, I might. There's a GnG machine at the department store and I'm thinking maybe I'll git gud on the switch and then have a bash at the machine.

Got the two free games downloaded. Are they going to let you buy games individually as well as the packs?
