Mario Strikers Battle League Football (Now featuring a Smurf who cheats)

Right, lets officially get a league up and running. Thinking 1 match a week, 1v1s, Round Robin style. Lets say sign ups by the end of next week as that should give folks some time.

I know a few folk said they were interested but lets get that committed

Round 1, please play your games by a week on Monday

Whoa whoa whoa, Sepp Blatter. What game rules are we playing under? Do we have to pick and keep to the same captain, or can we choose whoever we like? Lay down some rules!

That's a good question, I just gathered I picked my four with gear and play Cappa at his ground but is that 2mins or 10mins matches?

Choose whoever you like, I'll check if there's any other customisation options required for the match, but pretty much just use defaults was my thought

Items - On
Hyper Strikes - On
Day/Night - Day (I assume this actually doesn't matter)

Gear is allowed, all characters allowed

Maybe we should at least nominate captains that we have to stick with for the season? Give our teams some identity. I'm also not in favour of gear being used as I don't have much unlocked, and don't know the best combos to cheat succeed with.

I don't think we need to worry too much about the gear; it always boosts one stat and cuts another so it shouldn't impact balance too badly.

If we're going to have captains we're playing with 8 players so I will randomly assign them Gear is super well balanced, you can unlock plenty from playing through normal cups, but as Luke said, they take as much away as they give, so you're just rebalancing the character closer to a different one.

I refuse to play with anyone other than Peach as my Captain, so . . .

But really, the idea of a distinct captain made sense in the older games with the teams of mobs. In this game, even if someone else had Peach as captain I'd still have her on my team so it's kind of redundant. We'll get more identity by creating a team name and kit.

Yeah Rosalina will always be on my team regardless, much like Luke with Peach.

Me and Andy had our game earlier and I came away with the win. Was a close game, think we were level for the most part with the two goal difference coming late on. Playing a friend game reinforced what I'm sure we've all been thinking though, they've really f'ed up here not having more options, it even automatically sets the away team to Player 5 so why we can't have 4 vs 4 online I'll never know.

Buska Leaves Knackers in the Dust!
Despite scheduling snafus, the season kicked off with a nail-biter


After a two-hour delay due to time zone confusion, fans were finally treated to a tremendous first match day of the season when Buskalilly's newly minted Spikes put the equally green Magicians, managed by old hand Dusty Knackers, to the sword late Sunday evening.

Full time came with a thrilling 1-1 draw and both teams were in all-out attack mode for an end-to-end Golden Goal slugfest. After successfully defending against all the Magicians' attacks, including two Mega Strikes, it was the Spikes' captain Peach who sealed the deal with a kiss. A Mega Strike just inside the Magicians' half saw a 3-0 win for the monarch with moxie- and a promising start to this season.

A single hyper strike was enough for Jas' Warriors to out-muscle Muss Athletic.

This was a good game and closer than the score suggests as we both haven't really played much, I also noticed that you really can't get away with certain passing set ups against an actual person.

This was a fun back-and-forth game, definitely my favourite experience of playing Battle League Football yet. I thought masofdas was a bit unlucky, and I thought I was quite flukey. He did well to block both my Hyper Strikes, but I just quickly scrambled a goal in off the rebound. I won it after extra time.
