Subject: The GNamer Forum Awards 2024 - Wrap Up Tue 24 Dec 2024 - 21:28
Welcome to the 2024 GNamer Awards with me your guest host, masofdas. We have four awards this year, two forum based and two gaming based ones, along with the normal honourable/dishonourable if you wish to give them.
The Forum Awards
Member of the Year 2024. Vote for your favourite GNamer Member which doesn’t just have to be on the forum, maybe Dusty has been the best with his Discord use or Andy with his GameGameShow shenanigans, everything can be taken into account.
Activity of the Year 2024. Due to it being quieter on the forum than normal this year. AotY is a mixture of past awards which are normally things such as post, tagline, topic, events etc. Please vote for upto three things that can be anything forum related, these will be weighted equally per voter.
The Game Awards
Top 10 Video Games of 2024. Yes it’s just Video Games, no matter if you played them on PS5, Switch, Evercade or anything else in between they can be voted for. Not only that, anything that got released in 2024, I’m allowing (Personally, I feel should be 2024 games, but I want everyone to join in) which means you can vote for Stray, Sly Cooper, Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster and even Shadow of the Erdtree if you wish. Normal 10th gets 1 point, 9th 2 points and so on with 1st getting 10 points.
Top 10 Most Anticipated of 2025. Much like the above anything is allowed as long as it’s coming out in 2025 (or we believe it is), yes this means you can vote for the Switch 2. If you can only muster up 5 that's fine, it doesn’t have to be 10.
Honourable/Dishonourable
Maybe you played more than 10 great games in 2024 and want us all to know about them, or some were crap, and we need to avoid them. Could be a new job, saw a great TV series, or that new air fryer isn’t as great as people tell you it was going to be. Anything that doesn’t fit with any of the four awards.
The Deadline to get your votes over to me is January the 11th.

I like this actually mate, good job. A nice celebration of the year without getting stuck in the weeds on what qualifies as what.

Mas has been begging for somebody to like his Game of the Year plans for... well, years. I think it works this year anyway!
Most Anticipated is an interesting one, I thought I was going to have nothing but actually have quite a few things if you include the more ambiguous. Up for this, good stuff Mas.

Thanks, though as I say even past years my views been should be video games of that year in one big vote. But this year especially having been lots of ports like Stray for Switch and I don't know if Cappa only played new retro such as Legacy of Kain on Evercade.

I've come up with my votes, just going to wait until closer to the deadline to send them off because one of my Christmas games could (probably will) break into my top ten and I'm sure I've forgotten something from most anticipated. Just the one vote for member yes?

Yeah just one member vote
That's why we're doing the SS3 GOTY Awards in maybe a few weeks, as I got Black Myth for Xmas and I know EofGizmo got a bunch plus backlog.

I've got a whole heap of games I still wanna play before I vote, I'll likely at best manage to continue playing the one Switch game and one PS5 game that'll both make the list. However there's at least 3 more games that if I play them I'm confident they'd trouble my list but I don't know if I'll get around to them.

Could always make the list and then tweak it later, but you can only tweak it with the addition of new stuff? That's what I did when running it, albeit not with anywhere near that level of logical thought.

Same now, although I imagine I might add a few more mentions between now and submission. I think I've settled on my 2024 games too, if not the order.
My Most Anticipated now contains two pieces of DLC, five indie games, one game I've included a link to a trailer of because I'm not convinced anybody here will even be aware of it, and one game that we don't formally know exists.

Probably only I care about this, but - how's Activity going to work? If somebody votes for one of your voting threads and somebody else votes for the whole bunch? Or somebody votes for GGS and somebody else for one episode of GGS? It's not important (then again neither is anything we say or do) but I am curious.

You'll have to wait and see especially after someone's votes.
Thanks Jas, we're now upto 6 votes with the weekend to go

Double Post, I may end up with a few of these due to award countdowns which start now.
Like all great awards, be it BAFTA with the fellowship given to likes of Gabe Newell, Lifetime Achievement from GDC for Hideo Kojima and so on.
Only one man comes to mind for this great honour of this very special award of
Andy of the Year as voted by Crumpy Andy:
Only Andy the megastar could be given this award with his GameGameShow songs & shenanigans due to him being the best member of GGS, he's truly a generational talent unlike none other.
Not only that much like Cappa and Myself, Andy also went into great detail of his top games of 2024 which you can listen to here
Others even honoured (Andy himself didn't mention his stag at all ) Andy's Stag - I didn't want to vote for it in activities because not everybody could've joined in, but it was great to see all the lads who turned up, especially Andy.

Member of the Year 2024
3rd Place
We don't have a third place this year. We do have these honourable mentions, outside of Andy
EofGizmo - Nice to see this man emerge in the latter half of the year and inject a bit of impetus into our flagging Switch discussion. Top lad.
&
I can't single out a person, you're all great peeps, and we need that more than ever now.
Joint 2nd Place (1 Vote Each):
Balladeer
Because of his love of grapples and edgy dogs.
Buskalilly
Still posts pretty regularly on the forum and the main man behind Podcastio Podcastius which all has timezone issues. I will add, him now being in Japan could have forgotten about all us lot, with new mates etc yet still finds time to be here.
Jay
Big year for the best man.
1st Place (3 Votes):
masofdas
I'm a simple man. The forum is the most important part of the GNamer network for me, so this goes to the man who's done the most to keep it alive, including his monthly release thread and these awards. Here's to you chief.
Hmm... Well, I think I'm going to vote for you mas! In terms of how dedicated people are to keeping this community going, posting threads and, for example, guest hosting these awards and then messaging people to encourage them to take part, you've done a lot for nurturing the GNamer gang and keeping up with what everyone's doing. Very admirable!!
It only feels right this vote goes to someone who's helped keep the forum alive in what I'd call a "transitional period" and I can't think of a better example of someone who's contributed across both the forum and discord with both interesting discussions and (sometimes incorrect) opinions.
Thanks guys, as I've said within the monthly threads and these votes for instance, anything I can do to keep the forum going I want to do and I'm glad that it has been appreciated.

To be fair, staying in contact with you lot as much as I have could very well be one reason I haven't sought out that many mates over here . . .

Most Anticipated of 2025 Part One
19th - 11th:
Joint 19th 1 Point Each
Ninja Gaiden Ragebound Sonic in Fortnite Professor Layton and the New World of Steam - Been a while since we got one of these. It'll probably be a 6/10 with a bunch of trick-answer puzzles and a stupid ending, and I'm annoyed by Luke squeaking "King Gunman Joe" already, but it could be good couldn't it.
Joint 18th 2 Points Each
The Last of Us Season 2 Rift of the NecroDancer - It's been ages since the last Rhythm Paradise game. Also, my heart sings every time a team that did roguelikes does something that isn't a roguelike.
Joint 17th 3 Points Each
Deltarune Chapters 3 & 4 MGS Delta Snake Eater Chained Echoes: Ashes of Elrant - Chained Echoes was low-key great! This looks like a substantial new adventure in that engine, and I'm here for it. Hope it's got more flügelhorn-playing marmots.
Joint 16th 4 Points Each
Avowed Outer Worlds 2 Skate story The Mermaid Mask - You, the reader, probably haven't heard of this. I enjoyed Detective Grimoire and Tangle Tower, with the latter only an iffy ending away from an 8/10. They're genuinely amusing and very streamlined for the detective P&C genre. I'd thought that might be the end of the series, since by all accounts TT didn't do well, so the very existence of this makes my heart warm.
Joint 15th 5 Points Each
DK Country Returns HD DOOM: The Dark Ages Split Fiction Rise of the Golden Idol DLC - The base game was up there with this year's best, and a bunch of DLC to finish off its story will really hit the spot. I hope we get more of the copper with the massive schnozz.
14th Place 5 Points, Two Votes
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle - Sure it was released in 2024, but does Xbox even count as a console at this point? Looking forward to playing this on a relevant machine.
Joint 13th Place 6 Points Each
Capcom Fighting collection 2 Nintendo in General Suikoden HD
12th Place 7 Points
Freedom Wars Remastered
Joint 11th Place 8 Points Each
Ghost of Yotei Trails in the Sky First Chapter Xenoblade Chronicles X HD Earthblade - Looks good from what we've seen, but let's be honest: it's the game's pedigree that puts it up here. Holstin - I've followed this 2D indie survival horror for a few years now and thought it was doing some clever things with its changes in camera perspective. Hopefully it actually comes out this year. New Mario Kart - Not a guarantee but a sure fire way to hit the ground running on Switch 2, I honestly don't know where they go for the next game but I'm certain it'll be a hit with the forum and some top-notch online play.
10th Place 9 Points:
Death Stranding 2
I of course voted for what will hopefully be another Kojima masterpiece.
Joint 9th 10 Points Each:
Civ VII
I'm only counting one of your votes Andy!
Rumored Oblivion Remake
8th Place 10 Points Three Votes:
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
You Said -
This one has managed to stick with me despite not seeing much of it. Looks really creative with it's mechanics and visually quite stunning
7th Place 15 Points Two Votes:
3D Mario for Switch 2
You Said -
Now look. I know how you're going to be about this. But it's going to happen. We had a 2D Zelda only this year, and a 3D Zelda only the year before, and Z-A has been announced, and the last full 3D Mario was in 2017, and nothing else is big enough to launch a new machine and it feels like Nintendo know this. So, this is happening, it's happening in 2025, and if we'd seen the smallest element of it it'd be my number 2 easily.
Unannounced but if it doesn't happen I'll eat my cappy, after the initial buzz of Breath of the Wild for the original Switch, nothing came close to that magic until Mario Odyssey and i have no doubts that whatever they serve up here will be just as magical.
6th Place 18 Points Three Votes:
GTA6
You Said -
If it comes out
Given how much time I spent on GTA V this should be number 1 really, I just don't see a scenario where this isn't fantastic and maybe even groundbreaking.
I say-
Will add my two cents to this one as I thought it be higher, yet I know I don't care about it are the rest of you the same why here, or we think it isn't coming out?

You'll be happy it got 10 points and not 5.5 due to your shenanigans.
Most Anticipated of 2025 Part Two
5th Place 19 Points Three Votes:
Elden Ring Nightreign
This was one of mine, and as I've said elsewhere a few months ago this wouldn't have been on my radar but now hope to join my fellow tarnished online.
4th Place 30 Points Four Votes:
Pokémon Legends: Z-A
You Say -
Just about my most anticipated game given what we know. We haven't seen anything worth noting of this, but Legends Arceus might have been the most exciting Pokémon game since Gold/Silver, its successes many, its flaws obvious but fixable. With a year's break rather than continuing to churn the machine, Z-A has a real chance to be the very best, like no one ever was.
I adored Legends: Arceus to the point I can comfortably say it's my favourite Pokémon game, but weirdly I keep forgetting about this one's existence, which is mainly why I can't place it too highly.
3rd Place 35 Points Five Votes:
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
You Say -
Not as high as it could be because of the general trajectory of the Prime series up to this point, but come on! More Prime! Finally! Ignore those softies who didn't like Remastered - or rather, don't, because their problems are easy to fix in the modern era. This could be a proper great... or it could go a little bit Prime 3 Corruption.
I still need to play through Prime Remastered before this releases but needless to say this series is vibes and I'm looking forward to what they serve up.
2nd Place 47 Points Five Votes:
Monster Hunter Wilds
You Say -
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I don't think I have to explain this one, do I?
I'll never get in to this that the level the Monster Mash lads will but I've enjoyed the last two entries and I'm almost certain this will be bigger and better than what's come before, I might even try a different weapon this time.
I say - This was my number one pick and I have to say I agree with that last chap, especially can carry two weapons now.
1st Place 50 Points Six Votes:
Nintendo Switch 2
You Say -
Come on. We need this. My gaming is wilting.
Some would argue most anticipated should be games alone, but nothing beats that new console feeling and a Nintendo one in particular always has all the bells and whistles to make for a special experience and I can't wait to see what they have to offer.

I'd usually be a bit annoyed at MH being pipped to first but a new Nintendo console is the exception.
