| To avoid another off topic argument in the DS voting thread I thought I'd make this.
What's your favourite Sonic game and why?
Personally it's Sonic Adventure 2 battle. I loved playing through both Good and Evil campaigns and the Sonic and Shadow levels are some of my favourite 3D platforming moments. The multiplayer was great fun too and I don't see why masofdas thinks the game has aged badly so I'd love to hear why.
Over to you! |

| I'd meet you and masofdas in the middle: the first Adventure game has aged badly, the second one still holds up (to an extent, at least). Anyhoo, copy and pasted from NGamer, back in June 2009: - Quote :
- BEST: Sonic The Hedgehog 3.
This is my favourite Sonic The Hedgehog game - perhaps even my favourite 2D Platformer. I really liked this new, considerate appraoch to the series, and accordingly, prefer Sonic 3 to either of it's Mega Drive predecessors. They're all classics, of course. In addition, it was quite the visual tour-de-force in early '94, and had a drastically underrated soundtrack. Nigh on faultless, in my opinion.
WORST: Sonic Heroes (PS2/XBox)
Nothing particularly interesting here at all. Technically inept, and plauged by too many set pieces in which you can't control. Too much grinding, not enough platforming. Best bit is the song on the second level. That's about it. Here's that thread: http://forums.computerandvideogames.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=94492&sid=a73fbca36c70e4c85b3a7c29f1df643c&start=15 Four years on, I'd say that's quite generous towards Sonic 3, and really harsh on Heroes. Generations on 360 has been my favourite Sonic since the first time I played it, and I've since had the misfortune of owning the outrageously shite Sonic 2006. |

| Sonic The Hedgehog 2. Okay, I've only played that and Sonic The Hedgehog, but I think StH2 is superb. Though based on Phillips' praise, I'll be giving 3 a blast at some point. |

| I'm one of the few people that didn't really get Sonic Generations. I played through it but it just felt incredibly easy and not particularly note worthy. I did like the City Escape level but that's mostly nostalgia speaking I think. |

| Hard I want to say Sonic 2 for 2D as it was the 1st game i ever played back in 1993 on my mega drive aged 3. But CD & Pocket Adventure have to be close. For 3D Sonic Adventure 2 is still good I have on my dreamcast but hasn't held up in my opinion, so going to say generations as it was a nostalgia trip and that they poked fun at there self was great. |

| My favourite might well be Sonic 2 (my played list is Sonic, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic Colours and Sonic Generations). The introduction of the Spin Dash opened up the game brilliantly and the Casino Night Zone is brilliant. The final boss(es) is (are) amazing, too. One of the most memorable final clashes... hey, there's a thread about that! |

| I'll also go with Sonic 2. There are a couple of things it has in its favour that could be cited as unfair, such as the nostalgia I have for what was my first ever console video game and one of my first games in general, but overall I think it is a fine game as well and still my favourite Sonic game. The level design was fantastic, the music was catchy and conveyed the mood nicely, and the platforming was ace. All up I feel it is one of, if not the best Sonic game I've played.
Plus constantly getting Tails killed was a bit of entertainment as well. |

| I always go for Sonic 2, it just seemed to get the balance right between speed and platforming and there was a nice variety of levels.
The worst is easily 2006, unimaginative, buggy and with an incredibly crud story which tries too hard. |

| Personally, I think that's a better visual demo than it would be a game. That shifting camera would get on my tits after a while. The first Sonic The Hedgehog isn't a game that needs tampering with or 'remixed' anyway.
~
There's been a few ropey Sonic games since andyman made this thread. Sonic Jump isn't much to write home about, Sonic Dash much the same. Soom Boom, of course, is the stuff of legends; I looked forward to the Angry Video Game Nerd video burial in 2027.
The worst Sonic ever? Definitely not Heroes as I said years ago. Boom probably shades it in the shiteness stakes over Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 - what a howler. Still, I'm now saying that it's Sonic Labyrinth on the Game Gear, and not Boom or 2006. Such a hateful game. |

Absolutely. The camera was making me a bit queasy. |
