(I preferred the Serenade of Water myself, but then I'm not attaching quite the same sentimental value to it. Gerudo Valley remains my favourite OoT tune, though.) |

| How do chaps....it's been a frustrating bidding war but today, i am finally the proud owner of an N64 once more. Can't wait for it to arrive. I have to say though that getting hold of the games i'm after in the condition i'd like (can't be doing with tatty boxes) is proving very difficult. There's always someone to outbid you by a pound at the death . It'll be great to play all my old Rare favourites again though. Might have to just settle for cart only for some games. Seems weird though....the gaming world is on the cusp of a new generation of machines and i want to go backwards haha. To me though, retro is the future. |

| How do.....does anyone know of a good UK based specialist retailer who might sell protective cases for N64 boxes ? I've been collecting/bidding on a few treasures and i want to make sure they stay in as good a condition as possible. Going to have to sell some more LP's to finish off my collection though.....£100+ for Conker ? eek £60 for B.Tooie ? ooo. Once i get those then my Rare collection (up to and including Viva Pinata TIP) will be complete |

I recall that someone on Retro Collect was selling protective cases/slips/sleeves for N64/SNES/GB games through their shop either this year or last - it might be worth checking round there to see if that's still the case. Mental prices for some of the later stuff, but shop around and I think you might find it for less. For example, not long ago I got Mystical Ninja 2 boxed with instructions for under £22. |

| How do.....my N64 collection is coming along nicely. I've picked up several games over the last couple of weeks and have my sights on a few others. I was wondering if any of you could point out any glaring omissions from my list. Bare in mind that other than Conkers Bad Fur Day, i wouldn't be prepared to part with over £40 per game and it has to be a good game. I'm not going for a full set, just games that are good.
Here's what i have :
007 Goldeneye Banjo kazooie Blast Corps Perfect Dark Diddy Kong Racing Donkey Kong 64 Jet Force Gemini Super Mario 64 Ocarina Majoras FzeroX Pilotwings 64 1080 Star Wars Racer Wave Race 64 ISS98
and i intend to get Conker, B.Tooie, Mario Kart, Party & Tennis, Road Rash 64 and the ID games.
Any others i should look for ? |

| I could name you about fifty, but for the time being I suggest the following from my collection:
1. Snowboard Kids - N64 Magazine described it as "Mario Kart 64 on ice" in it's high-80s review. I think everyone on GNamer enjoys it.
2. The New Tetris - In my opinion it's the best version of Tetris ever released. It's cheap as buggery, adds some smart ideas and has a great four player mode.
3. Rakuga Kids - The N64's best non-wrestling beat-em-up. Not much choice in the genre, true, but it stands on it's own merits.
4. Rocket: Robot on Wheels - Expensive, but such an innovative and fun game. I honestly think this is better than Bad Fur Day, Donkey Kong 64 or Banjo-Tooie.
5. Space Station Silicon Valley - One of the best platformer/puzzlers going. Really funny and full of bright ideas.
~
I'd also urge you to buy Lylat Wars - that's an obvious one, but I have to assume there's some reason you don't have it already. |

Although if you do get that and want to go for 100% completion, you will need a cheat due to a bug. |

| March 1st marks the 20th anniversary of the N64 launching in Europe.
One of my favourite systems and I'll be playing through many of the 1997 releases throughout the rest of 2017. I know most folk on here will be busy with their Switches but I'll be celebrating some of these titles (along with the NGamer threads for the Wii) by posting in here. Feels like a good chance to complete some games that I never did back in the day - the likes of Pilotwings 64, Blast Corps and Diddy Kong Racing spring to mind.
Having owned an N64 in 1999 and 2000, did others pick up the system in 1997, or even at launch?

Who says releasing a system in March is silly. N64 is one of the best systems ever and is GNamer Number One choice due to so many classics, I got mine for Christmas for one year as my Nan won it in a Andrex competition but not sure of the year and my Uncle bought me Star Wars Shadow of the Empire. I know I had a PS1 at the time and I think on Boxing Day or around about then renting SM64 and OoT (I think), I'm guessing it was Christmas 1998 (Due to when OoT came out) but that doesn't make a lot of sense though due to the house we were living in that it may have even been 1997. I also remember not liking it and going back to the PS1 to play Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back. |

I also remember not liking it and going back to the PS1 to play Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back. Not liking what? If Mario 64 or Ocarina, then I'm beginning to question your sanity, let alone gaming tastes. I always felt Crash Bandicoot was a 7/10 platformer that simply stood out because there wasn't any great competition on the PS1. |

| I was 7 mate (let's say it was 1997) and Crash was a lot like Sonic, yeah now I've said it before like in the influential thread now playing both SM64 and OoT both are masterpieces to this day and the N64 is my second favourite Nintendo system ever.
Just wait for Andy to chime in as he hates the N64 and it almost topped the worst console vote as well as the best console. |
