| Coming from this article and discussion in the News Thread. The premise is simple: suppose you had to field a team of eleven Pokémon from the world cup - and, to keep things, interesting, let's say they all have to be different species (so no more than one Hitmonlee). Who would be in your team?
I'm expecting to see a lot of Hitmonlee and Blaziken, but hoping for some more left-field suggestions too. Spoink for those jumping headers, perhaps? Ariados spinning a web to protect the goal? I'll post my team later: it probably won't include Dugtrio, I'll say that much. |

| GK - Snorlax. He'd just cover the entire goal. DF -Blastoise. Heavy defender, especially with his cannons. DF - Psyduck. Will confuse strikers. DF - Onyx. Large snake-like target that would get in the way. DF - Weezing. Create a smokescreen so strikers can't see. MD - Alakazam. Quickly move the ball forward with psychic powers. MD - Rapidash. Very fast midfielder. MD - Starmie. Can roll around quickly and pass long distances with their moves. MD -Marowak - Can hit the kneecaps of other midfielders. ST -Machamp - Would be good for crossing and setting up goals. ST - Hitmonlee - Very good with his feet.

| Right here's my team GK Machamp LB Plusle, CB Blastoise (c), CB Fearaligatr, RB Minun CDM Poliwrath LM Wartortle RM Charmeleon CAM Ditto SS Blaziken CF Hitmonlee The whole team revolves around Ditto, when the game starts he would become a Poliwrath as well and the team would play 4-4-2 with the LB & RB overlapping there mid field counterparts whom would drop back in. When on the attack ditto gives so many options could become a hitmonlee and play 3 up top with a 4-3-3 or another CB for Def & have 5 at the back or 3 and push the LB & RB into LWB & RB.

| Semi OT, but I'm disappointed in the lack of puns.
That being said, I've only got as far as Wayne Goomy, so there might be a reason. |

Yeah, there's loads of these, now I think about it. Also: I'm not up on modern football.

Two of those showing how old I was when I last cared about football, there. |

| I'll get it back on topic (probably briefly) with some BEEDFACK. Not to be taken seriously. Cube's RBY Rangers: Marowak would get sent off in the middle of the first half. I'm mostly just giggling to myself about the thought of Weezing trying to dribble. Masofdas' Watery Wanderers (you've got four water types): I'm guessing that Plusle and Minun are in the back four to work off each other's abilities, not to mention raise team morale; but why Charmeleon over its evolved form? It'd probably get its tail put out in the British weather anyways. |

| I've now added tactics Balla for my team, Charmeleon as he would be quicker then Charlizard. |

| I'd just have an Arceus and have it ko everything on the field with one blast of Judgement. I'm unfamiliar with the rules of soccer but I believe having him do this would be an effective tactic for bringing matches to a prompt and far more exciting close than typically seen in the sport. |

| Judgement's a single target attack. Good luck with that. (Should have gone with Kyogre.) Anyway, here's m'team. Going with the old 3-5-2: Goal: Wailord. Where is your god now? Mr. Mime. Suddenly the goal is full of barriers. Poof! (Not an observation on the Pokémon itself, by the way.) Centre back: Mega Kangaskhan. Two defenders for the price of one? Yes please. Left back: Shiftry. I'm a big fan! But seriously, big fans to blow the ball away, and Faint Attack/Sucker Punch to ambush strikers. Might have problems running on those sandals, though. Right back: Miltank. Quick for a fat cow, and robust with it, but her main purpose is to really annoy the opposition simply by being there. Central offensive midfield: Greninja. Has the speed to go on the offensive, and can Mat Block attempts to bypass it. Central defensive midfield: Hitmontop (c). This team's lynchpin, he spends most of his time using his head-high legs to get the best of aerial control. Has Triple Kick for going on the attack. Also: the best dancer during celebrations. Central defensive midfield: Galvantula. Sticky Web to slow down opponents, and eight legs to kick with. Might Unnerve some of the weaker-minded strikers too. Left wing: Hitmonlee. Waste of his talents? Not really: I see his kicks being less about precision and more about raw power. Good for crossing, therefore. Right wing: Dodrio. Speedy on the wing (ha!), and its heading prowess should be self-explanatory. Centre-forward: Lopunny. Learns Jump Kick, as well as being able to distract the opposition with her... erm, Cute Charm. Striker: Blaziken. Powerful kicking chicken. Can also jump high, which is good for those overhead volleys. Good at (Baton) Passing too. Manager: Metagross. Supercomputer-power brain to plan strategies, and more intimidating than Alakazam when shouting at the referee. Physio: Chansey. Should be self-explanatory. |

| Don't know which was worse: "Central offensive midfield" or the utter lack of puns in that last post. Acht. Marowak Fellaini! Paras Cissé! Cesc Fabregastly! |

| Jolteon Lescott is worth the price of admission alone.
Also, I took to saying 'Squirtle' whenever Skrtel's name was mentioned during a match we were watching. It annoyed my then-housemate so much he said I could only do it once per game. I named my Squirtle Skrtel in X... and the bugger evolved, ruining the joke.
Team later. As a great man once said, I need to think about this. |

| Buska's JPG Jamboree: why Sableye, may I ask? Don't get me wrong, I love the little critter, but he won't be doing much passing with those stumpy legs. |

| He basically skitters and floats about like he's not even attached to the floor so I figured he'd make a nippy little midfielder. |

| After much deliberation - some may argue too much deliberation - here's my starting eleven. It's a 4-4-2, with the midfield being in a diamond formation.
GK - Rampardos (chosen by my girlfriend, though his helmet does remind me of Petr Cech) RB - Miltank (solid with surprising pace) CB - Tangrowth (good defense stat and would look funny) CB - Carracosta (sound defense, not too quick, but sounds like a lost Italian defender) LB - Garchomp RW - Blaziken (mostly since I've grown very fond of him on X) CM - Hariyama (in the holding role; love Hariyama) CM - Alakazam (just behind the strikers - Teleport would make him essential) LW - Breloom (no Flying opponents, please!) CF - Hitmonlee (but of course) CF - Tauros |
