| A lot of people called the game out for a lack of villains/ bosses but you're right, after peace walker it must feel like a return to form.

| Oh, absolutely. The villains are usually the most memorable parts of Metal Gear for me. The sneaking sections all blend into one stealthy blur in my head, but I've clear memories of Psycho Mantis, The End, Ocelot, The Boss... fingers crossed for more of that in MGSV. Speaking of The End... - Episode 11 Spoilers:
Came across Quiet on my way to do a side op. It was an interesting fight, but it wasn't as fun as The End fight for me. She's too easy to spot. I ended up taking her down with tranq darts because it would have been too easy to snipe her head off. Still fun though!
Also, Episode 6... I am terrified of running into Skull Face and his gang again. Two missiles to the face to take down one of his crew? And he's got a possible COLOSSUS on his side? Where's Wander when you need him?
I think I need to change my tactics up a little bit. I've been playing by initially stealthing my way about a base, knocking off guards with a suppressed gun or tranquing them and fultoning them, eventually getting caught and then having to firefight my way through the remaining dudes. It's good fun, but I'd love to be able to take a whole base out without getting caught.

| Top tip: to get a suppressed sniper rifle, you have to customise. It's not a development project. |

| Really? I could have sworn I saw one in the development list. That'd be a huge boon, because I keep alerting an entire base just to snipe one pesky dude on a watchtower. |

| Yeah, I was super late into the game before using my sniper rifle was an option. Might be different with the lethal ones. |

It took me a good while to settle into getting through the odd mission without being spotted, but I found trying to do things with perfect stealth to be the most nerve inducing and intense way to play. Always good to soldier on when you get spotted though, dealing with a messy situation is a huge part of the fun. |

| That's a good article, Drunka. I haven't been letting the quest for perfection taint my MGSV playthrough thus far - I'm resigned to the fact that I'm just too shit at Metal Gear to consistently S-Rank missions, and I don't have the willpower to replay missions umpteen times until I nail that S-Rank. Having said that, when I have a rare burst of inspiration and get that S-Rank, it feels so damn good. - Progress up to Mission 13:
Got D-Dog! He's great, isn't he? He's basically a cute radar. I love D-Dog.
One thing I didn't really love was the Sahelenthrophuspuspusdecoyoctupusthropus mission. Whilst the scale of the thing was impressive and bloody terrifying, I didn't particularly enjoying having to hide from it whilst lugging that useless sack of shit Huey on my back. Plus, it can destroy rocks? Unfair. I probably missed a trick to this, but I ended up spending way too much time clearing that mission. It's a shame because I was able to infiltrate the base with no detections before that and was loving that mission until then.

I really liked that mission. Got spotted en route to the big bad, but fighting/fleeing from it was great. I think that boiled down to me having just the right amount of - holy shit it's onto me, and - I think I've lost him, ok I lost him - in that one.
I watched Drunk do it and he literally sprinted away from it without it keeping up with him, thereby meaning the whole thing was over in 20 seconds or so! It seems like one of those missions that kind of embodies how different PP is to the rest of the series; people's experiences of set-pieces varies wildly.

See, I did what Drunka did and just fucking legged it with Huey on my back, but the big bugger kept up with me and we played cat and mouse around some rocks for about half an hour. My heart was genuinely pounding, so I suppose it deserves praise for getting me so worked up I was having palpitations.

D-dog is the best buddy in the game. - Mission 13:
I got extremely annoyed with that mission too as like you I infiltrated the base perfectly then proceeded to lose multiple helis in my escape when "Sally" (a nickname I just made up for sahelanthropus) showed up along with multiple enemies on walker gears.
--- I was back on MGO earlier today and tried more of the cloak & dagger mode and it is much better when you have a decent non-lethal loadout as the default loadout (3 stun grenades) makes it really difficult, I would love to get a few GNamer folk on it sometime so we can have a decent team. (some guy who was level 29 had seemed to have a stun grenade launcher) |

| I've always gone for the leg it approach when coming up against some form of boss battle and it never really works for me. I need to give online a go I think, looks really fun. I was focusing on getting all the missions done before I ventured in to online but I'm only at 50% so no point in me postponing any longer. |

| 15 minutes of improv with the cast of Metal Gear Solid. Spoilers up to and including MGS4, it seems!
Surprisingly, they keep it together for the full 15 minutes, although Otacon's VA almost loses it at 11:47. Highlight for me was Raiden's VA sitting in David Hayter's chair and grinning like a loon. |

| Played a little bit of MGO with Jas tonight - in short, it's pretty good! Fast paced whilst still keeping the stealth aspect of Metal Gear. I wasn't a huge fan of how restrictive the loadouts were early game - running about with a basic rifle was a bit naff whilst the enemy team were wielding sleep gas grenades and stealth cloaking systems. Still, I enjoyed the couple of hours I had with it. |

That was legitimately the worst thing I've had to do in a video game. That was soul destroying. That last room where your lads stand saluting as you put a bullet in their heads... Back to faffing about waiting for the next bit of story to unlock, but I definitely need a breather after that. I've been avoiding the rehashes of old missions and I've just been doing side-ops so Chapter 2 hasn't been as awful as I've heard some people make it out to be, but I'm really just wanting to plow on through the story now and having to wait for the next bit to open up is a bit annoying.

I'm with you 100%. Whatever anyone has to say about the story telling overall in MGSV, that moment is without a doubt one of the most profoundly powerful ones 2015 has to offer. An absolute testament to Kojima's ability as a video game auteur, demonstrating a dastardly coupling between narrative and mechanics alongside the brilliance of the Fox Engine's graphical fidelity. It makes you feel bad, and makes you need a sit down afterwards, and it makes you want to smash Emerich's face in! What ultimately bums me out about that whole sequence though, is that moments like that are so few in veeja games. Then again, maybe that's for the best, my poor heart!

| It actually ties in with Drunka's article about bleak video-game moments - emotionally, it was bloody awful to experience and genuinely quite upsetting, but the game's better off with its inclusion. |
