| What's so special about the ambassador edition, then? |

| Ambassador edition... I got an e-mail, and I was waiting for the New 3DS...but specifically the New 3DS XL, since I wanted and XL sized one. Shame, I like been one of "The Few(tm)" to get an e-mail when these things come around! Might see if any friends want it in my stead... |

| I might get one now after the rage on twiiter from Ibbster and others seems to be it will hard to get hold off. That I could buy this now then get rid of when the XL does come out or a cool special edition and I doubt I will lose much at all money wise.
Link on NL showing it. |

| I've never been picked for anything like this, curiously. Didn't get a demo code for ORAS, either. I'm guessing my indifference to registering anything on the Stars catalogue hurts my chances there. |

| It really does sound like an odd one, (I don't think the sent out the pokemon codes to people, think they were just dished out by websites) I've managed to get a few of these supposed limited emails but I rarely register (only if there's an offer) |

| I got the one for Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, but I put that down to being rather a heavy Virtual Console-type dude.
I wonder what's prompted the Ambassador Edition to simply be a regular unit and not an XL? In fact, it seems a bit odd to me that both sizes will be available together, especially since tiny Japanese hands accepted the 3DS XL. |

| Aye, I don't see why both are needed. The fact the normal one is the ambassador edition is a bit odd, I'd rather have a permanent special edition rather than one I'll end up swapping out the faceplate for. |

| 3DS XL faceplates are technically swappable, are they not? I'm sure I read something about that when they were first touting the upgrade, but for whatever reason it never took off. |

| I bit the bullet and ordered myself one, I was after the non XL variety anyway the only draw back for me is it comes in white but I can change that with face plates at a later date. |

| More Nintendo of Europe confusion! Classic! Sack the folk who make these decisions - they're diddies.
I passed on the opportunity to get an Australian New 3DS XL in the colour I wanted for a tenner less than this Ambassador model. i've not even checked my emails to see if I've been selected, such is my interest in this particular version. |

| I honestly don't get the uproar about this tbh surely it can't just be from folk complaining about not being selected, it's no different from what Sony done with that special edition ps4 except Nintendo aren't making you jump through hoops to get one. |

| There is quite few complaining though as they feel there loyal to Nintendo and Nintendo aren't valuing them as customers and fans else where in the worldwide like the states.
I would get one if you can Cappa as there going up to £280 on eBay which is another reason why people are moaning as take Ibbster he's loyal to Nintendo and would use a New 3DS yet someone has got one and there just flogging it.
Which I admit I would do myself but I am going to keep in till there's a decent New XL or I just can't get on with a smaller system going from my old XL.
Anyone that does get one here's all the cover plates, I like some are felt, embossed and glow in the dark but I do like number 37, 40 and 54 |

I sort of get that part of it but why be mad when it's just a special promo? If everyone got selected it'd just be the release. |

| There saying it should be a select view like everyone who bought a 3ds at launch can get a ambassador new 3ds. Not a random selection as it seems. |

| They've no doubt only made so many units of this particular N3DS, going by the statement they released to Eurogamer it wasn't random.

| I have been included in loads of the special lists recently: ORAS demo, 5 early Smash Bros codes, some free points, Mazza Bros Deluxe...
Which confuses me as I'm not a particularly ardent fan compared to some other friends, at least as far as any metrics could tell. I do mostly play only Ninty stuff, and I do enter the Star Codes (though often in bulk after letting a few build up. Worth it, I love me SNES style classic controller, soundtrack discs and some office NintenTat!), BUT: I don't buy all the big releases (while they are several 3DS-owning, buy-all-the-games-all-the-time types), if I do I get them late, my gaming is sporadic at best (sometimes stopping for months at a time), and I'm registered as owning an Xbox and PC on the website (they used to ask what else you owned).
Either they mostly respect the fact I register stuff, or the Random User Picking R.O.B they have at Ninty UK has a soft spot for me...

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-01-06-new-nintendo-3ds-ambassador-edition-goes-on-sale "The New Nintendo 3DS Ambassador offer is by email invitation only for selected Club Nintendo members in Europe only who fulfil a certain criteria," a company spokesperson told us. 'We are unable to disclose such business information" My guess is they are concerned about people "gaming" the selection process if they tell people? Less special if it is jumped on by tons of resellers, perhaps this way they keep the proportion of genuinely surprised and happy loyal customers higher? You certainly seem to find anything with set criteria people know about gets jumped on by the same people over and over (like the 19.94 PS4s, for example, or good Promming spots at The Proms), people who have the correct circumstances to take advantage of the selection rules time and time again. That's the best reason I can think of anyway! |

| That sounds about right to me Zaphod. I imagine it might be having registered a specific selection of games or something, though I guess we'll never know. Also Mario Deluxe was just for connecting an NNID wasn't it? |

| Yes Andy on Mario
It would still be nice to know as like Zap says I know people like Ibbsters who does buy every Nintendo release even pokemon which he hates and he doesn't meet the criteria.
Maybe they think he'll buy one anyway that they don't need to offer him one.
Also if your getting a New 3DS now here's games that take advantage of it's extra buttons at least Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Resident Evil: Revelations Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D Kid Icarus: Uprising Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance Nano Assault EX Steel Diver: Sub Wars One Piece: Unlimited World Red
And taking more advantage of the New 3DS Hardware Super Smash Bros For. 3DS |
