I'll tell you what, it is well worth watching the second episode of Cool Ghosts if you haven't. Matt Lees really delves into the games we play for the sake of completion and whether we're actually enjoying them and honestly made me question what I've been doing with a lot of my life. He's one of the few games critics whose truly embracing aging with the industry and looking back at it with a more mature eye and it can be heartbreaking at times but incredibly interesting.

This is isn't something on Gintendo but elsewhere as I've started a blog on Xbox focusing on the news on the platform, this might turn into another Enter the VR but it is something I have thought about doing as doesn't seem to be the content out there for Xbox compared to PlayStation or Nintendo, my only thinking as it's not as old like the other two and had fewer systems along with series it hasn't gandered the fan-base.

Anyway it's called Guilty Spark.

Even if most aren't on Xbox still might be worth checking out for things like new releases as they're often the same or game announcements.

I was initially being facetious about thinking about it, but... I think I possibly like the talking about games and the community aspect of games as much as I do playing games. I wonder if that's part of it. Neutral Certainly things seem to intensify on that front around E3.

New AA case review.
A bit late this week . . . can I get away with blaming the earthquake?

You've been much more forgiving on AA5 than I expected you to be! This case is definitely up there in terms of filler cases, but it's still a bit average in my eyes with nothing to make it really stand out. Klavier turning up was cool, I suppose, but it wasn't enough to elevate the case in my eyes.

They're tight, logical and efficient. Maybe the fact that I've played so much of the series back to back has made me appreciate not having to sit through any investigation nonsense, and just getting to some courtroom drama and a fun conclusion.

If it seems I'm being too nice to AAs 4 & 5, I should clarify that although I'm enjoying them they aren't even close to the original trilogy's best bits.

I think that last sentence sums them up perfectly. I wasn't anywhere near as keen on Case 3 though, although it's definitely better filler than AA6-4. I am intrigued to see how you get on with the final case(s)...

Ooft, harsh words! Presumably it'd still get a Drunka 10/10? I thought it was you writing that HK review as well, given the picture captions; then I realised that you'd never have been that critical of the game.

Woah, pulled no punches with that game there! I must admit, I did think it looked like a far less interesting LIMBO and that seems to be not too far off the mark.

Definitely a Drunka 10/10, that game represents top-class parody and shithousery.

I've not heard back from the peeps who sent me the code.

That and Hollow does show the differences of indies games and why the eShop shop could do with a revamp that you find HK and not Dream Alone which is taking up valuable viewing from good games.

Seems Zero is keeping busy on Gintendo and I've just out my thoughts upon 2064: Read Only Memories which is either out this week or just come out on Switch eShop.

I went straight to the rakugo one because apparently I hate good gaming. 2/5 was generous! Boy that case has problems. Also feeds into the thing you mention in the final case about female characters, where Athena needs Blackquill to come in and save her - mollified only a little by Blackquill being the best thing about that case.

Good write-up. Thumbs Up!

I just wrote a piece which might be controversial about PS5 and how Sony can do what they want due to the first party being as in important as Nintendos

That you may disagree with massively and I don't think Nathan Drake is as big a Link, my Nan wouldn't have a clue who Drake is but Uncharted 4 did as well in terms of sales as a Breath of the Wild.

And seeing how GoW, HZD, Spider-Man have done along with others the sequels will likely do the same or better due to word of mouth etc and Sony can sell the PS5 on the back of those even if they go it's 500 enjoy it.

GRIS is only okay..

As game maybe but art is subject and open to different interpretations which is I still maintain GRIS is on how it uses colour, sound design to tell a story about grief is utterly fantastic and the best thing I experienced on Switch last year.

I've heard other people say they had an emotional reaction but that didn't land for me at all so I ended up looking at it more critically and seeing a lot more of the cracks.

If it's not a good game but is a good art piece I have to ask the question why is it even on a console and not in a museum?

Because games don't just have to be games anymore they can be art as well with a game console being the way you view instead of a canvas, I thought it was fine as a game though.

Drunka brings up Journey and GRIS has way more game to it then that for instance and unfortunately if they don't land emotionally you get what likes of Andy, TSmurf think of Journey but if it does you hold it in the highest regard.

Yup I wasn't saying games can't be art just that in this instance and from what I've read about GRIS that it might have been better delivering it another way. I also feel there's a little upsurge of indie games that are doing these sort of projects because they are popular and that's never a good thing to do when creating a piece of art.

I don't know if doing it another way would have the same impact on how you're directly in control of GRIS and how the visuals & sound design come together. It might have worked as a animated short possibly but personally I want to see things like GRIS on a console alongside "video games" such as Super Mario Odyssey like how I want to see Avengers Endgame alongside Shape of Water.

I think you're right we will get more games that are trying to be art for the sake of it, like how you get Oscar bate films with some landing and some not.

It's tremendous to see Hotel Dusk having a spotlight shone on it, because that game was belting and never got the sort of publicity it deserved. While it was very much a product of this time in some ways, I can't help thinking that a game like it, in an era where Obra Dinn is getting a bunch of exposure, could have got broader reach if released today.
