We're all going on a...Summer Holiday Gonna get myself a... game or two.

I love the cinema; the movies that do trade in spectacle are obviously improved by a big, crisp screen. Comedies are enhanced by an audience to laugh with, and everything else can be helped by making it a social experience.

I'd say that both of the latter two can be better accomplished by getting a bunch of friends around to watch it on a sofa with booze and snacks. Especially "everything else": you're not meant to talk in the cinema, and people who do so (loudly) are arses, so that limits the amount of sociability possible.

The part about not being able to talk in the cinema does seem at odds with it being a social experience, I agree. On the other hand, I've watched films with friends that I really wanted to just see and concentrate on - and that was impossible because of the chatting. It really is horses for courses, I reckon.

I definitely don't consider films a social thing with friends, but it's a nice date night. On the rare occaision I have people over it has to be videogame time, so it's not an option there for me either.

I'm not saying we talk in the film, but all seeing the same thing then chatting about it on the way home/ at dinner/ over drinks is a nice experience. Having friends round to watch something rarely works very well. Even the WWE PPVs, which we meet for every month, are such a piss-up I need to rewatch them the next morning.

I wish I had enough game-loving friends for that to be an option. It's hard for me to convince my writing group or choir mates to come play videogames; easy enough to get them together to watch a philum (as I sometimes pronounce it).

Next Sunday September will be going up, a lot of Sport and games with a Japanese flavour along with a PC port of a game I know some of you will be interested in, BotR has a Marvel Movie, LEGO and Controllers.

On this month of August a game called Hue comes out on the 30th and it might be worth keeping a eye on.
