Let's all talk about Tetris 99, Nintendo's mad, free, battle royale puzzler that's grabbed everybody by the bollocks.
I bloody love it when Nintendo fire out new stuff to play during a Nintendo Direct, but this has got to be the best thing yet. It's absolutely brilliant! No wonder games journalists everywhere are calling it "the new 18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker".

I've had 3rd and a couple of 4ths but still not had that Dub yet. It's bloody brilliant though isn't it? It wasn't till yesterday I realised there's more tactics to it than it first appears with the different options on who to target, me and Chloe found ourselves discussing who to target it and when in order to survive the longest. It might sound a bit of an overstatement but more stuff like this and Nintendo Switch Online will start becoming a necessity.

Not at all, this has become immensely popular and it's arguably NSO's first killer app. A couple more of the same and who knows...
That said, how many other games are going to be the same level of instant hit? Everyone can play Tetris, and everyone can have a few decent games (top ten I mean). Simple yet beautifully suited. It's Wii-level thinking.

I'm not sure but I think they can definitely do more hits and wouldn't be surprised if we see something new in one of the next directs.

I am utterly shite at this and didn't have a whole lot of luck with my first round of games, but I completely understand the appeal. Top work from Nintendo nailing this down as an exclusive for Switch Online. More like this, please.

Finally won one earlier today. Got close when I first started playing after the game went live but the W eluded me with a fair few top 10 placings but also some pretty bad placings.
Luck is certainly a factor. Got a lucky KO or two early on and then a ton of people started targeting me so I set my targeting to 'Attackers' to fire back at all of them, so survived that with some help of the badge power and then got a lot more of it after eliminating them. And either the players that round were a bit worse or the best ones got bad luck and were elminated early on. I got some pretty good block luck too and I'm not the best at building.
Still not a fan of Nintendo charging for online, but definitely getting a kick out of this game and admittedly the NES app as well.

I won my first ever go! I was going to leave it and never play again, but I couldn't help myself. It didn't last...

Still not yet broken into the top 10 as of yet but hopefully I too get lucky soon enough. I also had a read of this https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/aqgmwk/how_to_win_at_tetris_99_battle_royale_mechanics/ And now I may actually know what is going on. I had one proud game where I got 6 KO's but according to the reddit post they seem to be heavily dependent on luck.

Huh - that was an interesting read. I've got to admit I hadn't really got a lot of what else is happening outside of "do Tetris good".

I kinda wish I didn't read it, I've been over thinking my play ever since and are struggling to make the top 10 now.

Like Roo mentioned this is bloody brilliant in part due to Nintendo's willingness to drop surprises like this on them.
The game is excellent as discussed - I just particularly like how Nintendo is teaming up with Arika (Tetris Grandmaster devs!) on a new take on Tetris instead of another sodding Doctor Mario.
More of this type of thing please!

Plain old 1981 Pac-Man doesn't do it for me anymore to be honest, I think I've had all the fun I can get out of it. However, most of it's many remixes are properly great - and this looks like carrying on that fine tradition. I'd seen Rum posting about it in the eShop thread, but I though 'bugger it, I'll bump this'. Any chat about Pac-Man 99?

Speaking of fun pacman variants; in arcades here, they sometimes have physical Pac-Mans and Pongs. Like, it has actual models moving around animatronically, gobbling or bouncing balls and ghosts.
