Buzzing as really like HW and always thought we should have had a sequel.
Sure this isn't sequel to that but a prequel to BotW which is neat that it's canon and can see potential story beats with the heroes, Link going to sleep etc
And even though I shite on BotW the artstyle is great and be happy to run around it slashing enemies along the way
This also keeps up a Zelda thing every year

Yeah the previous one was decent fun so I'll probably end up getting this, also I was only saying to ZeroJones on twitter the other day that we might see a few surprises from Nintendo before the year is up and up this pops.

I really enjoyed Hyrule Warriors (I had Legends on the 3DS) so this is a pleasant surprise, and I'll probably pick it up at some point!

I am as up for this as I've ever been for anything. I loved Breath of the Wild, I love Warriors games, I've been thinking of picking up the original again on Switch to co-op with my mates anyway . . .
Gnnngghh OOOOH YEAH

Oh hell yes, I'm game for this! I enjoyed Legends on 3DS, so having another Zelda Warriors title with a stronger story and better visuals is an easy sell for me.

Brilliant announcement this, I'd have been happy with a new Warriors game in itself but a prequel to Breath of the Wild makes it a must have, I'm hoping they don't skimp on the story with this too and give us a good deep dive in to the champions and the Great Calamity.

From the trailer, I got the impression they'll be going all out with this stuff. I'm really excited to play as Daruk and Urbosa in particular. That shot in the trailer, where she dodges round an attack and counters? Sublime!

Yeah, it looked like they've got the Witch Time dodge thing from BotW in this as well, so that'll be ace for some of the more annoying fights against the tougher enemies that can sometimes bog down a Warriors game.
I wonder who the playable roster is going to be... outside of the champions, I'm not sure who else we'll get! Zelda would be ace. Maybe the king as well? Any other thoughts?

Hooray! What a nice surprise: an all-new game in this, the Year of Mario. Lovely stuff.
Now, admittedly I didn't get on at all with Hyrule Warriors 1. Mindless dude-killing and that. However, I never gave it a go in co-op, and I remain hopeful that I can convince The Lady to give this a shot with me. She's being irritatingly reluctant, which kind of killed some of the excitement I had for this... Regardless, this is objectively great. Nice one.

Haven't they basically shown off playable Zelda? And I think young Impa? Perhaps the king of the Zoras before he was reduced to a sedentary lump as well. I also remember that the first remake of the original Hyrule Warriors had bits where you play as Ganondorf, so maybe you'll be able to control the 'Blights for a bit?

Regardless of the full playable character roster, I think this is a really ingenious way of telling the story of BotW. And it's pretty awesome that it's also going to be the same Link and Zelda!

On characters from screenshots looks like Link, Zelda, 4 Champs at least
Then you mention ones like Impa and maybe you could do the last mission as Ganon

That would actually make sense, for how this one has to end . . .
My prediction is that the last level will see you playing as Link in a Halo: Reach-esque final stand that you inevitably lose. Also: At the end of the credits, we'll hear "Open your eyes".

Counterpoint: the final mission is Zelda battling through Hyrule Castle to seal Calamity Ganon for the next hundred years. Big boss fight with Ganon to finish off the game and all that.

Back to the Character roster for a moment and I saw Joe Skrebels (I think) suggest on twitter that there seems to be a friendly guardian on the boxart.
Also the boxart is pretty damn nice!:

I read the first bit of that and thought, I too would like to play as Joe Skrebels. But BB8 on legs also looks cute.

at the lack of replies. Also, I didn't necessarily mean that as an objective negative! I've actually been defending the musou recipe myself over on GRcade. I completely get why for some it would be cathartic, or a big old power fantasy. It's just not for me most of the time.

100% this! Link has already been injured and all the other champions defeated so it's down to Zelda as a last stand. Sounds so much more appealing than doing Gannon's dirty work.

They can be cathartic, but at the higher difficulties there is more depth to them than most people realise. At least, that's what I'm told, I don't venture above normal!
A good Warriors game isn't mindless though . Can't speak for the latest open world one, which by all accounts seems to have been pretty shitty, but I have played through a lot of DW:8 and many of the missions have multiple paths you can take with bad, good or best ultimate outcomes, which in turn affect the path the overall story takes. Getting the best outcome significantly takes away from the, you just mindlessly kill dudes, mentality into a something more like a high agency single-player moba hybrid, like what Drunka wrote about ages ago. There's an order of operations and some strategy that goes into where you unload your irresistible force.
It's kind of like what me and Drunka imagined a Superman game to be like. You are, very much, a God. But its not about you, it's about the city's health - or in this case, the state of how some of your comrades are faring on the battlefield. There are sometimes moments where you have to choose between one ally and another; you can defy physics but you still can't be in two places at once.

I can definitely see this as her story as opposed to Link's - she's the hero who stops the world from being utterly annihilated after all. She gets Link to safety, she returns the Master Sword into hiding and she seals Calamity Ganon. I hope they portray her as the main character!

I was so disappointed when it turned out we couldn't play as Zelda in BotW after all the rumours that it hasnt really sunk in yet that we'll actually get to experience her story. I also hope for Jay's version of the game.
