That makes sense - hopefully it'll lead to more handheld-type games on the Switch.

Anyway, time to change the question! IF you were going to invest in one of Microsoft, Nintendo or Sony at the moment, purely on the basis of their gaming machines, which one would it be? And maybe why?

That is a hard one as if I were to break it down

PlayStation:
VITA isn't a factor at all and licence fees I would get from games sales would be low, PSVR is a similar boat to the VITA. It leaves the PS4 which is already near 60m, how many more will it sale 20-30m which is a lot still but I could invest my money be better invested elsewhere.

If games sales are a factor, we know the attach rate for PS4 is rather high and something like a The Last of Us Part II could do 10m, meaning this could be the wise investment based off that alone.

Nintendo: Now you do have mobile but so does Sony which actually had a game make more money then Pokemon Go in Japan, that I'm discount mobile at this time and focus on the two systems.

3DS just turned 6 years old and can't have much life left in it, will Nintendo replace and maybe into Switch sales or double-down on Switch. Switch has the benefit unlike the PS4 of being new and having all the install-base to come, how big will that be is the question as at the moment where looking at 1.5m with rumours of production going up to 16 or 20m for this year alone but then you can see in Japan weekly numbers dropping each week already.

Microsoft: Xbox One might be replaced this year sort off with a system that based on recent rumours might be close to PS3 launch money, that is a major problem for the general consumer.

Then if we are talking games then we know the install-base is 30m'ish of the Xbox One which is half off PS4 meaning returns on games would be lower and the attach rate is lower as well but then you have Gold, EA Access and Game Pass along with whatever the PC lot will buy.


That I'm saying Sony as it seems the safest bet as you have PSN etc to bring money in, game sales are high, console is still going to shift likely another 20m especially when the Slim is under $200 RRP by the end of the year.

Nintendo. I wouldn't gamble much, but if I'm giving somebody money, I think Ninty will make the most interesting use of it. And, heck, I want them to do the best out of the big three!

Microsoft because Bill Gates does great philanthropic work with his profits and I have no interest in actually investing in a company.

If Zero's question was for gaming company it would be Tencent, who'd I'd actually be investing in.

Remember that thread someone did where we all took charge of a different games company? I can't remember who I got, and I never posted my response in the end (because I couldn't do daft pie charts like I wanted to, and mainly because it was a thousand words of me basically saying that JRPGs are sad). Anyway, the conclusion I came to was that my company would just make JRPGs, sell them for £10,000 a copy - because those types of gamers would pay that, natch - and then buy out Sony so that we could make another Circuit Breakers. Looking back, I don't even think Circuit Breakers was developed or published by Sony, but bollocks to it, it's the best Micro Machines game ever.

Might as well cut to the chase - I'd invest my millions into Sony, and get them to relive 1998 all over again.

Did you know their is a new Micro Machines game coming, I know it's not Circuit Breakers but close enough right.

You got Square Enix, I believe and you could have just decided to just make Tomb Raider for ever and bring back Gex.
