Metroid Prime 4 - What are we waiting 4?

Team Ninja where a decent studio though, and at the time I would have been excited with their involvement.

Nintendo obviously have a lot of trust in Namco, considering that they've entrusted Mario Kart to them with the arcade version and I understand they had a big hand in helping develop Smash 4 as well. I'm not concerned - I just want to see the game in action now!

It might just be you but I'm not going to speak for everyone. The severe reduction in Samus's badassery was unnecessary, and I don't think the gameplay was all that special either. The attempted marriage of the 2D and 3D styles did not work, for me. I did like the brutal finishing moves, though.

I didn't hate Other M, I played through it and had fun, but it left a lot to be desired.

Wasn't the entire game based around THE BABY though? And motherhood and being subservient to a man and all that nonsense?

I think it probably helps I managed to forget about most of the story, I've now been reminded about all that nonsense with her boss or whoever it was, brrrr. I guess the gameplay was fun enough even if not up to the Metroid standard.

Obligatory "THEBABYTHEBABYTHEBABYTHEBABY". I think the problem there was that they tried to give off a Ripley vibe from Aliens, but somehow forgot that Ripley was also a fucking badass too. Herein lies the problem with making a silent protagonist not so silent anymore.

Samus is at her best when she's a no-nonsense ass kicker. Have her scrap with purple dinosaurs and big alien jellyfish in 3D again and I'll be happy.

I have a sad.

I'm more curious as someone not as a metroid fan, what's happening to whatever Retro has been doing.

@mas That depends on a lot of things we just won't able to get answers to, so my big stab on the dark is if they had anything substantial for this unannounced project (which I don't think they do) it's moved either to a smaller team or it's on hold.

Back on topic though deep down I think I had accepted not seeing MP4 release this year but I thought for sure we'd at least see some gameplay this year. Now none of that is happening which is a big shock to me and the only good thing is Retro are back working on it like they should have been from the start.

Looking back through the thread, there was a lot of uneasy feeling about Bamco's possible involvement. Bang on the money, it would seem. I'm glad it's being delayed so it's good: I do wonder how it was allowed to get this way in the first place.

Also: very impressive of Nintendo to own up and start again. A lot of companies wouldn't, and would have pushed it out half-formed in the hope nobody would notice.

It seems like a big deal for a Japanese company to issue a public apology of sorts like this, so it must have been a real shit-show with the original devs. I'm glad it's with Retro now though.

This was so weird- earlier that day, Id been chatting with my pal about MP4 and he was disappointed when I told him Retro weren't involved. Obviously someone from Nintendo was listening!

So it's all your fault we have to wait? Did you at least mention the Prime Trilogy being released in the meantime for Switch for them to overhear?

The thing is from what I've seen these past few days, most of the team at retro who were behind prime aren't at retro anymore.

I've heard that too which makes me think something must have really gone wrong for them to go with a team that didn't really work on the others.

The cynic in me, thinks Nintendo has gone for Retro because it looks good as part of the news.

So, yeah that doesn't sound like a snap judgement or a pick just to make the news easier to take.

Also some of the team may not be at Retro anymore (I know the director of all three primes went on to make Recore for example) but that doesn't mean they haven't been hiring folk who are just as creative if not more so.

This Retro might be talented but it's not the same Retro to be excited about, is what I'm just saying. We wouldn't be if it was announced RARE is doing Banjo Three would we.
