| This come to me yesterday after I preordered Shenmue HD for both PS4 & Xbox One, I did say i was going to do this in the gaming news thread and Jimbob seem a little confused that I was guying the same game on two different systems. That my have you ever question have you ever done this? I've got a few other examples as I did this with Soulcalibur II which I bought on PS2, Cube and Xbox. I did trade in the PS2 version rather quickly as Heihachi was pants and I didn't think it looked as good or play as well as the other two. Also did similar with COD one year when I bought on PS3 and 360, with the weird thing being I played the campaign on 360 to get the achievements and I played the multiplayer on PS3. I've done simliar with others like that and FIFA but not the same day, the only one I can remember getting for a reason on PS3 after the 360 version was Arkham Asylum with GOTY version to play the DLC and it had 3D support that I wanted to try. Of course remasters and re-releases as well such as Hyrule Warriors soon for a 3rd time but that's not sort of the same as the examples are the same game in the same generation where HW was in a last-gen system and on handheld that it is slightly different to now get on a current gen system. I do have one close to that with films, The Matrix I remember back in day, DVDs weren't the norm and I ordered out of a TV guide which you got like 6 films for so much then one a month which had a lot of crap as the first month I think had The Matrix which of course excellent but also had Cold Hearts with the main star being Amy Jo Johnson AKA The Pink Power Ranger The thing was I just bought it on VHS as DVDs where expensive that I did own at the time, the later bought on HD DVD, Blu Ray (that's sort of the same gen) and likely will get on 4K.

The only one I can think of is I owned Pro Evolution Soccer 6 on both PS2 and Xbox 360, and they are actually very different games. The PS2 version is your traditional PES experience, but the Xbox 360 one is a very early release on the system and as such, is pure arcade mental-ness. Essentially it's Virtua Striker on fast-forward, with the usual Master League bolted on. This was when PES then went in to its darker years with PES 2008. |

| Too many to count. I think I own Assassin's Creed II on like 4 different platforms. |

| I'm with Jimbob, I think it's confusing. Mas has ruled out the main reason I'd do it, if the game was remastered. The only other example I can think of is if it's a retro game, where the machine I originally played it on is stowed away somewhere and has been for years. That's why I bought SM64 on the Wii U.
Buying the same game on two different current-generation machines, though? Nope, that's bizarre to me! |

When my 360 packed it in and I noticed it was cheap on Steam, I fancied replaying it and for a few quid, I thought why not. When my laptop started to struggle, I ended up rebuying it on PS3 during a sale. It's those sort of circumstances - and it's happened with a fair few other games too, like FFXIII - that led to me rebuying the same with very few, if any, functional differences. |

| Ahhhh, that I understand. It's similar, albeit with shorter gaps, to my approach to rebuying. I was thinking of buying a couple of brand new copies for machines that are both on the go.
I did do something similar, I suppose, buying Severed on both Wii U and Switch. However, I probably wouldn't have played it at all if I hadn't re-bought it: my Wii U hasn't re-emerged since being trunked, and I don't expect it to. |

Oh no, that's madness. Unless Nintendo announced Mother 3 would be launching on ten different platforms this summer, I can't see me ever buying two copies of the same game on consoles I'm still using. |

| That's basically me with Shenmue, Jay.
I guess also with you Balla being Nintendo only helps with not buying on another system unless like Cube + GBA, DS + Wii, 3DS + WiiU and at the time you could justify buying on both as one was on the go and the other at home. I could see this now with Switch and I know peeps who've bought FIFA on PS4 and Switch as Switch is a handheld.
I've bought Oxenfree on Switch and PS4 as it's so good and will as well for Firewatch, with those at the time being indies (valve have bought campo santo) I want to support as much as I can and I can play Firewatch on the go now. |

| CAVE. STORY. (RE)BUY. IT. Yeah, that's the only one I can think of and that's only 2 versions that have a sizable gap between their releases too. (Wii version & 3ds) |

| Dark Souls. Played it on PS3 but got weird game-breaking bugs that meant I couldn't go past Anor Londo. Downloaded it on Steam, played it to completion. Then downloaded it on XBox One Backwards Compatibilty, played it to completion. Now I'll definitely be buying it on Switch, probably playing through to both endings on that version and then finally starting my Onebro run. If and when I get a pS4, I'll probably buy it for that just to see if it looks prettier I'll almost definitely buy Monster Hunter World on my PS4 as well, despite sort of completing it on XBox. Oh, and I've definitely had cases where I've had to sell a game because I'm broke only to rebuy it when I'm feeling more flush. |

| I've got at least one copy of Sonic The Hedgehog on Mega Drive, SEGA Saturn, Game Boy Advance, GameCube, Wii, DS, 3DS, PS2, PSP, 360, Steam, Android and Windows. I'll get it again on PS4 next month...and again after that on Switch, with the SEGA AGES re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-release. |

| Not really, there's HD re-releases but wouldn't really count them and then there's Rocket League which as Jas mentioned wasn't bought on PS4 (although I definitely would have paid for it twice). |

| I've not bought a game on e.g. both the 360 and PS3, as they were sitting 18 inches away from each other plugged into the TV, and to me, buying a game simultaneously on 2 platforms is MADNESS. However, despite that, I can't say I haven't got some duplicates. I've obvs. bought many Virtual Console games because the original console is collecting dust elsewhere and might not work on any telly. But, as much as I hate to admit it, I do have some games that I bought on Steam, never really got into, or watched as my old PC struggled to attempt it, and ultimately I'm more comfortable playing in front of the TV with a dedicated games thingy. A quick scan of my Steam library shows 6 games that were probably in a summer sale, but that I eventually played elsewhere. But I bought the console versions months later, so I stand by my MADNESS take . |

| Cappa's that's more of a re-release type deal not same gen thing and I can see lots of us doing that in the past & future.
Also, Jim, I saw yesterday a poll about Shenmue asking what are you buying on and the choices were PS4, Xbox, STEAM and All of them as you can only have 4 picks on Twitter. PS4 was winning but All of them was second (what I went for as I'm buying on two systems) that shows a lot like me for a series such as Shenmue and Jay with Mother 3.
I double dipped yesterday, you may have seen in the yesterday I bought thread I bring up some downloads which I don't normally do unless something really special as I buy a lot of downloads.
Anyway one of those was Panzer Dragoon Orta part of the OG Xbox games coming to Xbox One via Backwards Compatibility, I bought it digitally as I was looking at OG Xbox games I saw it was selling for £30-40 that a £8 download seemed a much better option and giving something to the backwards compatible team, who you think in theory might never see a dime.
Yesterday I went into town and out of the 3 shops selling games, they had one OG Xbox game that works on Xbox One and guess which one? yep, Panzer Dragoon Orta for £12 in the independent game shop which unlike somewhere like CEX (they haven't yet but I wouldn't bet against it) wouldn't put the price up because of reasons.
For £12 I picked it up and now own PDO both digitally on Xbox One and physical OG Xbox which still only came to £20 which is must less then a physical version is worth on its own now. |

| Have you ever? Played a game competitively?
A few of you will know this one but I have a cup/mug with the Mortal Kombat Dead Alliance logo and a handprint on, which was my prize (may have been other things but can't remember those) from a fighting game tournament, which had to vote before signing up for what game we would play per system.
Which ended up being MKII on Mega Drive, some sort of Street Fighter II on SNES, Dead or Alive 3 on Xbox, Melee on Cube, etc
We moved around the room playing every game against our opponent who was drawn at random, the winner of all the games would move on to the next stage.
I got to the semi-final and got 3rd even though we didn't have a playoff but as I managed to get a flawless victory in MKII that somehow got me the "better" prize and 3rd place.
The only other time was Halo: CE then later Halo 2 but I remember more of the Halo: CE stuff which was a league, which our team managed to come second from bottom but somehow managed to have an excellent K/D ratio., which got us some sort of prize.
It felt a bit like getting into Europe because of fair play not for actually being good. |

| Haha, no. The only game I've played for long enough to do so would be Smash 4, but I'm too cack-handed, my reaction times are too slow, and I can't be bothered with learning all the fiddly little tricks. That is at least a reason I prefer 4 to Mêlée - less focussing on SHFFLing and wave-dashing, more focus on actually playing the damn game.
I suspect this might be one for Athrun, given his Pokémon simumlator times? |

| I've dabbled. Back when I was 13 or so, I was a finalist in Chain Chomp's Challenges in Nintendo Official Magazine. I had to be at least 10 of 15 high scores, which I did through sheer perseverance, and then I went down to their offices to play the other finalists . . . only to get soundly demolished Nonetheless, I came away with a bunch of prizes, I was in the magazine, I hung out all day eating pizza and playing games. It was good. I also made real-life friends after the fact when people at school recognised me from the mag! Since then, I've also become the World Excite Truck Champion of the World and the Master Cheese, though none of you need to hear about that again. And if we start counting drinking games as competition, I'll be here all day. Other than that, I want to try my hand at competitive ARMS here in Japan, once I'm somewhat settled. I really enjoyed the tournament I attended but I had no idea how to sign up. |

| Nah, I've never bothered. I suppose it'd be easier than ever to do so with WiFi tournaments for fighting games and whatnot. I reckon if I spent enough time with one or two characters in Injustice 2 grinding out combos and matchups rather than fannying about with random select battles against Andy, I could do alright in a WiFi tournament. I've never been tempted to actually go to tournaments or anything, although I do like following the Smash and FGC scenes. |

| Like Balla said I've been pretty heavily into Pokemon in times past. Not so much nowadays, Sun and Moon sapped my interest to a large degree ( although I still hop on Showdown with my gen 5 rain team every now and again with a suitably edgy username for old times sake, crushing people with a team that's years old is still fun as heck!), but in times past I'd spend at least an hour a day on Showdown and have anywhere between ten to twenty different teams in various tiers that I'd swap between. I'd probably get into Smash as well if the internet made it worthwhile, the few For Glory matches I played lag-free were absolute thrills. Then I got For Glory Hell'd presumably for crushing one too many a bitter player with King Dedede and that ended before it could get started. On the original subject of the topic I've rebought games plenty of times. I bought or played every version of Pokemon until Black/White 2, even buying Diamond twice. I've bought Zelda Ocarina of Time three times ( and was given a copy of it once), Majoras Mask twice, I bought and sold and bought again a Gamecube, PS2, DSlite, and Gameboy Advance (and lets not get started on how I've owned multiple versions of the DS and GBA), and I've re-bought some older titles when they received HD remasters ( Soulcalibur 2, Okami, Wind Waker, ect). |

| Back before there were a bajillion cards, I got up to rank 2 or 3 in Hearthstone. Had I committed myself towards playing it more, I would have made it up to Legendary. During my time ranked that highly I defeated a player who had played professionally - although that was a one off game and he'd have had me guts for garters if we played in a proper tournament setting.
I was never going to throw enough money or time at the game to get all the competitive cards so my only window of opportunity for making it up into the top European players of that season was by using a Zoo deck compiled by another (much better) player - netdecking I think that's called, which sounds lame but it's what everyone does. A Zoo deck featured lots of common cards, and the object of the deck was to throw out as many cards into play as quickly as possible in order to control the board. One just needed to prioritise killing enemy minions, while leaving some of your own on the board each turn, and you'd have a good shot of winning before the opponent could wreak havoc with hefty AOE spells.
After that season (2, I think) Blizzard introduced a bunch of new cards and balance changes which made zoo less effective, and, having neither the time nor funds to get another competitive deck and learn how to play it, I stopped playing ranked Hearthstone and only dabbled in Arena before uninstalling it altogether in the end. The last time I played it there were so many new cards that I just felt far too behind the curve to get back into it.
I was briefly ranked in the top ten EU Switch players for a THUMPER track though. |

| With E3 coming up, this times question is have you ever been to a gaming event?
As for me, I've been EGX 3 or 4 times, I've definitely once with Ibbsters but I got a feeling I may have been twice with him when it was in London. Then with Drunka and on my own in Birmingham.
I've also been to the Welsh Game Developer Show which includes the Welsh Gaming BAFTAs in Cardiff.
My memories of most of EGX is queueing to things for ages, Halo 5 was like 4hrs long and meeting Shuhei Yoshida, Hollie Bennett, Brjánn Sigurgeirsson, Collin van Ginkel for instance.
