Team Sonic Racing

Aye, keeping an eye on it, I've still got great expectations of this, and I'm sure that the speed can be sorted out before it comes out.

It would be massively ironic if a Sonic racing game was too slow.

I'm hoping this has a good single player. Sonic Transformed's challenge mode main single player thingie is the best thing going for it.

You could play through it co-operatively split-screen as well, which was an absolute blast. It's why I'd rate that game up there with many of the Mario Karts.

I've always avoided the Mario Kart comparisons if only because it's much more an arcade racer than a kart racer. The handling might as well have been lifted from OutRun 2!!! Which is no bad thing, but I do find when it gets brought up in 'which game is better' debates it only does a disservice to both series.

I'd still class it as a kart racer purely for including powerups - what's more, the transforming vehicles mid-race are going to draw comparisons to Mario Kart. They both stand as separate series though, which is great.

It's been announced on the various SEGA social media channels that "to give the team extra time to work on it", this has been delayed until May 21st 2019!

That's probably for the best. The previews so far were very uncomplimentary about its speed and gameplay, and there's no chance that many gamers were going to give it the time of day in amongst everything else that's due out in 2018.

Naw.

I'm a lot more likely to be arsed now that it's been pushed back - my lineup of new games that I wanted was pretty much full for 2018, so a delay is indeed for the best.

Hopefully the delay comes with some of Sonic's pals being booted for SEGA all-stars instead.

Yep good decision, I second Jay's hopes for All Stars but I doubt it, at least DELETE all traces of Big the Cat.

How's everyone feeling about this now seeing the best kart racer ever is getting HD'd next year?

Still, I don't think the release of CTR helps this as an alternative to Mario Kart. This hadn't exactly been previewing well, had it?

Yep TSR wasn't previewing well at all and now it's a month difference in release to CTR. Sure Sonic is first but even I only really need one Kart racer and CTR IMO is the best one ever and lot's of others will have nostalgia for that than playing as Big the Cat.

What youse have put in your last posts, that's all true, but folk are forgetting how good Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed were. With the same folk developing it, I think it would be unfair for people to underestimate it. Personally, I think they were better than Crash Team Racing...but right enough, I'll likely be in the minority in thinking that.

I'll get both these new games next year.

I don't disagree with that at all, actually. The former two games in the series were crackers - my concern lies with focusing solely on Sonic's mates and with the game not previewing very well, but let's hope that they adjust how the game plays for launch. A demo would go a long way to draw some folks in, I reckon.

Yeah the devs have brilliant precedent, but this officially not being all stars racing 3 and the tepid previews are a little worrying.

Seems from talking to some mates etc that I'll be getting CTR on PS4 that if this reviews well I'd pick up on Switch.

If we're comparing the two on characters it's not like CTR has a list of awesome characters either. I'm leaning towards Sonic anyway, never played CTR but given all the hype for the Crash Remaster and it still being a bit meh for me I'm not expecting much from it.

Part of the appeal of all-stars racing was the SEGA spanning cast, I think that's why Team Sonic Racing feels lacking in a way CTR doesn't

It's definitely gonna be weaker for not having the All-Star cast, it was a strange decision truth be told, nobody would have been clamouring for Sonic's friends anyway and all the important ones were already in Transformed. All that aside I'm still expecting to enjoy TSR.

This has been reviewing decently, I'm still not sure if I'll get with CTR less than a month away.

I'm surprised, especially considering that it was looking like a bit of a stinker in previews.
