| I'm only interested in this because it's coming to Switch, natch; but people seem pretty convinced that it's going to be a rough port, so why not, it can stay in Nontendo for now. Lil' fox fella explores isometric Zelda-like lands in a Soulsy game, I think that pretty much covers it. Have people here already played and loved it (or otherwise)? What were your thoughts? |

| I'd heard some chat about this, I didn't realise how much it looked like Death's Door. If you put your thumb over the player character, they could be the same game.
Also, Switch can definitely run this? Whose saying it will be a bad port? |

| I played it, it was fine. The combat isn't as good as Death's Door and the puzzles tend to sit at extremes on the complexity spectrum. It's not bad, it's just not good enough. |

| I think everyone liked the idea of it and reading about it but maybe it was a ballache to actually do. |

| The manual is fun enough for the basic progression, but the meta puzzles are just a pain in the arse most of the time. It just gets a bit Fez. |

Back Page's Samuel Roberts (and a couple of other people on that Discord). Then again, I can't quite tell if he just says that sort of thing to get under my skin the way I seem to have got under his. I will say that the trailer looked a bit fuzzy on a rewatch just now. 'A bit Fez' is not a compliment. |

| People who play both versions will inevitably notice the difference, but I doubt it will be noticeably shite if you play it only on Switch. |

I think I resent this. But don't look at my profile notes in 2 weeks time . (and actually half the time the manual didn't help, as it was a wall of text explaining a game that only had enough memory to be graphics and no text, and often it was difficult to work out how one referred to the other) I am still gonna get this - albeit for the PS4 if the Switch version is janky. |

| Yeah go on, I've been convinced (I don't take much convincing to shove something from Nontendo to Nintendo). I'm keeping the title: it's about as effective as Star Wolf was in that first battle. |

| I've just started this, and honestly my lads it is pretty blurry and bloomy on Switch. I've got a headache and I'm not sure the two are unrelated.
Also: bloody hard. Which is to be expected, but still. |

| Saw a side by side with Series X and it doesn't look like they've cut back on textures or foliage etc but got it about 300p making it a blurry as all hell |

That sounds a bit like some of the problems I had with Link's Awakening on Switch at points... might be one I'll check out on PlayStation then if the visuals are a genuine problem on Switch. |

| I would definitely recommend it on PlayStation over Switch if visuals are more important to you than portability. I played a bit more today and the headache did seem to be unrelated, and I even found the art style kinda nice to look at (the whole game's aesthetic is 'lo-fi' if that makes any sense at all, which is a bold move for a Soulslike); but that's definitely despite and not because of the visual quality.
I did get more into it though. I have a proper sword, beat the first boss (and had my first death), rang the big bell, and am getting some manual pages about things I can do with my shield. I, er. I have no shield. Also, while I do like the manual gimmick, it feels like a pull to nostalgia rather than adding anything to the game. |

| I played it very slowly and carefully. Lots of running away back to save points. Then the only time I couldn't, trapped in a room with a boss, I died. |

| Right, having read this back, I need to pull out the Alex Ferguson GIF - this is an absolutely amazing game and yous are all eejits. It starts off being almost as good a retro Zelda as Link's Awakening, but then halfway through the twists keep coming; although clearly inspired by Fez and the Witness, it does a much better job than both of those. That's not to say some things aren't stupidly obscure - you can bet I looked some shit up - but most of the time I went "oh, that's fucking brilliant" when I found out what the solution was, so I can't knock it too much. And it has one of the best "good ending" branches, which I can't spoil for anyone who hasn't finished it.
(I'm not learning the made-up language though) |

Extrapolating from the fact that I gave (the Switch remake of) Link's Awakening a 7/10, and Death's Door a 7/10... How did you find the combat difficulty Jimbob? It's the looming threat of several game overs in a row that prevents me from treating this in the 'pick up and play' style that my most played titles get. |

| Oh the combat's mostly a piece of piss - the bosses took a few goes but you gotta have the patience innit. |

| So I'm still playing this. Sloooooooowly. I've apparently just crested four hours, and just got to the Siege Engine. And got whomped, natch.
I actually do think this is a really good game. If I'm making a list of my top 'head' games on Switch, it's an easy top thirty contender. Every time I get into it I get something out of it. Why don't I play it more? I've been racking and racking my brains trying to think of the answer, and I finally think I've got it.
Quite simply, it's one of the coldest games I've ever played.
There's no warmth outside the cute fox lad. There's nobody in the game to chat to, no feeling of a broader society, or if they exist they're all dead. Everything is purposefully obtuse, the language is illegible, and the only "friendly" NPC I've interacted with so far is a giant skeletal shopkeeper. Who, of course, I can't understand. Other than them it's the princess trapped in the prism, and they don't have much to say either. The land is in decay, there are no hummable tunes just creeping ambience, and everything wants me dead.
I know it's a Soulslike. I know. But Hollow Knight has friendly NPCs and melodies to hum. Dark Souls famously has lads to chat to in its ruined world. Death's Door, if that counts as such, even has the odd joke. I'm not saying it's as miserable a world as Inside, but I'm not exploring the world of Inside, I'm not seeing a cute fox lad setting my expectations up for something entirely different in Inside, and anyway I only got a third of the way through Inside.
I probably will finish this. It's good, great even. I like it. But I'm finding it too cold to love. |

| It does warm up a bit - but I don't really want to spoil anything at all, so I regret even saying this. |
