Embedded video: Yay or nay?

I'm a bit annoyed that I initially found this feature although its nice & convenient for posting certain stuff it just becomes a nightmare when visiting the music threads etc with pages taking a while to load.

Even more annoying is they don't show up at all when on the wii U browser, so, should we stop using it?

What's confusing is that the thread title uses "yay" to mean you like embedded video, but the actual pool question has "yay" as the answer to get rid of it.

But no I don't think we need it. A link does the job just as well, and it lets the page load faster. Plus the Wii u thing, like you said.

I've always found links fine (see my Music Weeks cough cough shameless plug), and if videos don't work for some people/on some browsers then I would encourage people to use links!

I agree. It was neat when I first discovered it but it's rendered the music thread nigh unusable for me.

Hmmm. I've clicked 'Yay' but I actually think we should keep it for special occasions (which is not the best phrasing but it is early), like when we're going to discuss stuff such as a game trailer or - cough - an E3 presentation. Threads where there'd only be one video, I mean.

Agreed. It shouldn't be removed as an option but we should all agree not to muck about with it.

I'll throw in a yay as well. I've all but abandoned the music thread I started partly because after my last post it started killing my browser.

Hmm, I should probably go and replace all the embeds with links now that I think about it. That should sort out that issue.

Agreed. It shouldn't be removed as an option but we should all agree not to muck about with it.

I wasn't pushing for a full removal (probably impossible anyway) but its great to see we can all be sensible with how we use it in the future.

Yeah, I agree with this. In a thread where said video is the topic, that may call for embedding but for threads where lots of links are posted, it makes no sense to mess up the thread with embedding.

My computer is old and the music thread makes Firefox crash.

I have now tidied up the last page of the Music Weeks thread.

Thanks for being as eloquent with it as I wanted to be, Jay! That's what comes of studying English when I went for Maths (and French)...

Honestly, I hadn't considered this at all. I'm using a brand new computer, so naturally I've not experienced any loading issues.

I'll try to make a point of avoiding embedded videos from now on.
