And in answer to nupkin's question, the bosses are exactly the same apart from the final boss, or so I've read. Rubbish.
What's up with Nintendo on the Wii U so far? Even Wario's usual tech. demo. offering sounds below standard.
This.
I have a feeling the path Nintendo took with Wii U made sense during the development phase years ago, but Nintendo didn't forsee all the various changes the industry would go through, and what their competitors would be up to.
Focusing all-out on 3DS before Wii U probably also cost them a good launch -- I still believe it would have been better to introduce Wii U before the tablet revolution happened in mid-2010, when Wii demand was still strong. Waiting for buzz around Wii to dwindle seemed to be the wrong idea. Especially when Wii U actively relies on Wii owners' interest, given it is designed around the use of Wii Remotes (hence Nintendo couldn't avoid using the Wii branding anyway) and the need for those Wii purchasers to 'upgrade' to next-gen Wii U.
Now that Nintendo's wasted their headstart this generation, they've also effectively turned off publishers from supporting the thing. And Wii U being specialised (all those GamePad features which aren't on other consoles) but not being specialised (in that it can easily accommodate games from other systems) was a good call in the age where Nintendo need all the developer support they can get in the age of profitable games on emerging platforms (tablet, smartphone et al), but it was far better in the Wii age where we had this specialised hardware, and Nintendo was one of the few places for developers to make games for the box.
We had creative gems like Boom Blox, Let's Tap, Eledees and the like from third parties, which I couldn't imagine said third parties ever making for Wii U now the industry's changed so much (and let's not forget before 3DS launched everyone hailed it as the saviour of the industry, yet its launch failure seems to have put some publishers off making big releases on Nintendo platforms).
It's all so easy to say this in hindsight, though.

I'm still intrigued to try this. It doesn't sound as lame as New Super Mario Bros. 2, at least. Which isn't saying very much, really.

It's not bad at all, did get a little stuck on the first castle until I slowed down and made Luigi jump like his life depended on it

I've been playing this here & there when pikmin 3 isn't taking all my gaming time, & it really can be quite hard especially if you want all the star coins, still its really fun.......Oh I also had a go on 2 player & its not really built for it to be honest due to the levels being made for speed running.

No, it strikes me that NSLU is supposed to be played solo. Predictably, I love it - the challenge is right up my street: it's never too tough, you can take it further by trying to collect Star Coins and the levels are short enough that they never outstay their welcome, with something new always round the corner. For me it's an experiment that's worked, though I wish I'd downloaded it instead of buying the disc version!

Yep - we tried it with 4 players and gave up after 10 minutes.
However, my sister and I are trying to defy the odds by going through with 2 players - even that's problematic!

Why's that, then? Because it shares the NSMBU hub?

Yeah, pretty much. After you press start on the title screen and are taken to the file select screen, there's a discreet tab in the corner asking if you want to play NSLU. Click it and you're there. It's quite seamlessly done.

It was the cost. I paid £34.99 for the disc and could have downloaded it, far earlier than the disc came out, for £17.99 (I think that's right). That's what the comedian Al Murray would call 'bonkers mental'.

A bump for a five-and-a-half year old topic? Too bloody right me auld scrotum!
Mario, Luigi, Nabbit and the rest of their sad wanker pals are getting a Switch port for the old New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U games from the Wii U. The one's that apparently nobody played, but we all played, right?
Anyway, the Switch port is out this week, and has been getting some very generous reviews on the usual review sites. I don't think it looks like much of a 'deluxe' update myself. It reminds me of the Sonic Adventure DX Director's Cut, which must have come from a director who more or less got their way in the first place.
I thought NSMBU was a bit unlively on Wii U, but thanks to an Amazon balls-up I'm getting it for Switch for £18. Is anybody else getting it?

Done! Podcast aside. I'll leave you to change the title, Cappa (EDIT: which he did before I could even move the topic!).
Having played NSMBU and enjoyed it a reasonable degree, and completely ignored NSLU, I'll be giving this a wide berth. It was the best of the NSMBs to my mind, but anything over a 7/10's generous indeed, especially at this advanced age.

Considering I've got Tropical Freeze sitting unplayed, and considering this isn't exactly a must-play Mario game by most accounts, I think I'll be giving this one a skip unless I can get it at a tidy price... which knowing how 2D Mario games keep their value, that will not be happening!

I don't know, hold your breath, I saw New Super Mario Bros. Wii for under a tenner last year.
