| Yes, Nintendo's third president has passed away. The executive who dragged Nintendo first into electronics, then through the NES to the Gamecube, died this morning. I felt that he deserved his own thread. If nothing else, we can remember N64/GC's portrayals of him as an undead dictator-type, the former part of which seems rather ironic now. (sheds a manly tear) |

| Sad times. The guy was a pioneer for home console gaming and changed the gaming world as we know it. |

| A salute is in order for the man who helped create the company we all know and love, may he rest in peace. |

| If it wasn't for him, we probably wouldn't be here, for a number of reasons. RIP.
(And surely he deserves a tagline?) |

| I am saddened by this, perhaps in part because of NGC's insistence that he could never die. RIP. |

| Sad, sad news. RIP Mr. Yamauchi. I dread to think what the industry would've become without him. A fittingly great legacy for a thoroughly great man. |

| A great man, and probably the sole reason any of us are here. The end of a dynasty. |

| BBC feature on the man. Ignore photo. 10 that claims, "Pokemon was created in 1996 as a character for the Game Boy handheld"... |

| Well at least it's better than what the abc news on tv did. They mentioned he'd died, then instead of running an information piece on him and how he handled Nintendo it went on to some inane doom and gloom about how game consoles are fading from the industry in favour of smart phones and trying to use the Tokyo Game Show as an example of it. What is it with the media and consistently messing up gaming news? |

| Sad, sad day. His name adorns the credits of some of the best games that there are. |

| It's gonna be weird... all those jokes N64/NGC/NGamer ran... not the point Jimbob. RIP Papa. |

| I don't know about other people, but I've already made some jokes about him myself. Tasteless? Maybe, but so long as none of his family or friends see them, I'm not fussed. He's not going to mind, and the odds of the Yamauchi family reading CVG are pretty low, I'd think. |

| I was really taken back by this news, and I wish NGamer were still around to give him a send-off.
This man was solely responsive for the videogame magic of my childhood, and as a result shaped who I am today. I likely wouldn't have the analytical mind I have today if it weren't for what Nintendo accomplished and, as a result, the existence of N64 magazine and the legacy. R.I.P.
What I do want to do is read Game Over: How Nintendo Conquered the World, which apparently documented his early years and his actions at Nintendo. For a company as secretive as Nintendo I'd imagine it is a fascinating read. |

| Shamefully, I had no idea that one man was responsible for so much, and for some reason, I thought he was already dead Time to educate myself. R.I.P. Yamauchi. |

| I left a little obituary on Twitter on the day, and I had no idea before then that it was an innocuous Yamauchi comment that inspired the development of the 3DS. I don't like using this word, but the man was a legend. |
