| I've been putting this off for a while now, having discarded a previous post because it wasn't good enough. But I feel it has to be done, especially now we're in January. Yes, CVG is going to die soon, so I thought it'd be nice to give the old forums (which are still on CVG) a proper sendoff. Look through your old posts, search for threads***, pull up old memories, discuss your favourite moments, do it all here! I've recently been looking at 2011's forum awards, as I think that's the year Axis and Dusty joined us: http://forums.computerandvideogames.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=132852 And here's the old AR pics thread from around 3DS's launch. http://forums.computerandvideogames.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=123651 And KITTSY! http://forums.computerandvideogames.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=131519&start=0 ***I've found googling a term with "NGamer forum" in it, then some other words, then followed by site:computerandvideogames.com helps a lot. Paste this into Google as an example: NGamer forum awards 2011 site:computerandvideogames.com

| OH YA BASTARD. I misread the title as 'A GNamer Forum Sendoff', ands thought you were dingying the forum. Ooft!
~
I went looking for a specific NGamer thread last month, and it was so difficult to find that I, er, didn't. There's still some good stuff kicking about though. I enjoyed holding the first vote thread we did: http://forums.computerandvideogames.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=136412&start=0
For certain users, here's the old NGamer Wrestling thread: http://forums.computerandvideogames.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=112890&start=735
We celebrated the fifth anniversary of the forum here: http://forums.computerandvideogames.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=128853
Here's the Wii Bargains thread, for a bit of nostalgia: http://forums.computerandvideogames.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=73983&start=915
...I'll hunt for more tomorrow. |

| Will have to hunt for more later, but had a quick peer at the Kittsy and voting threads. Grand stuff, great memories. |

| Just reading through the 5 years of forum celebrations, good times indeed. That I actually remember the Heron attack as a good thing probably speaks volumes as to how much fun being on these forums has been over the past eight-and-a-half years. And objectively speaking it did at least mean CVG woke up and started caring about the forums more, which was nice!

| Crikey, we had some good times on NGamer Forum, didn't we? I'll be forever grateful of the Heron attacks because it signaled the start of my modship of the forum, joining such legends as sporkhead and Balladeer. (Word of the attacks even spread to other part of the interwebs: http://forum.gamestm.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=22055&start=0 ) One of my all-time personal favourite threads has to be the World Ends With You topic, purely to see Jay, Darunia and Cybermaster frothing at the mouth on a daily basis for about four years. http://forums.computerandvideogames.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=51115 Aside from that, I always loved heading towards the DS section of the forum to check out daily happenings. The forum awards were always a great read, too. |

| Oh go away Stu! I can't say that you're my most-missed poster for the awards if you're still around! (Joking, natch: good to see you back. ) |

| I just had a look there at the 2011 awards thread and I had actually forgotten about that hideous photo I posted. I believe it would have been back in 2008 that had GRF741 and I exchanging Merry Christmas wishes to each other over about three or four threads.
Does anyone remember Ngamecave? I'm looking over some of his threads just now and actually crying with laughter. He was either trolling us all expertly, or he was 11. There's actually far too many threads but these few are my favourites: http://forums.computerandvideogames.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=93974 http://forums.computerandvideogames.com/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=99221&site=uk http://forums.computerandvideogames.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=92026&start=0
This one isn't really a happy thread at all since it was when Sally posted about the passing of Ian (Venom) but it was still an important time on the forum and it showed how we all really were integrated and got on with each other. http://forums.computerandvideogames.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=87735&start=135
I'll really miss that place and if I was able to tally up the amount of time I spent on it rather than doing my Uni work then I'd most likely be mortified. It's funny though because at the time it just felt like a way to piss away the time (in a good way of course) but looking back at it spending time on the forum with the amount of humour involved in it actually helped me through some pretty difficult times. Especially after being hit by a car, although I can't say the laughter was always welcome, it bloody hurt sometimes!
It's actually a fair bet to say that if it hadn't been for the forum then a lot of us wouldn't have written for 3DSTribe since it really was a natural stepping stone and it given Nellis the opportunity to see what we could actually do. By the way, has anyone heard from him? The last I heard, he was working on SEO now.
To me, the closure of the old forum is like reliving the close of the magazine all over again in that it feels like such a massive end of an era. I still read a magazine each month (although it's now Men's Health) but it'll never have the charm of N64/NGC/NGamer and the forum was truly an extension of that, and not some tacked afterthought in an attempt to get some chat going for the magazine.
As far as I know, NGamer was the only gaming magazine that actually had a section the showcased the forum which was pretty novel at the time. I'll be sad to see it go, although if anyone has the know how on how to back up the threads then that would be spiffing. |

| That Venom thread. Blenderbeer - what a turnip. The way you used to type, Andy. Nowhere near as bad as good ol' NGamecave, though! On which note, anyone remember Michaeljay? http://forums.computerandvideogames.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=36623 Here's a little bit of smugness from me: the first ever NGamer awards. http://forums.computerandvideogames.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=38097 I won! And Stu won the year after. Then, as I recall, it was Phillips all the way... Also, I still miss this bloke: Uranium grenade. Proper great forumite, in his time. |

| Speaking of lost forumites, does anyone know what happened to Dead Lemon? I'm sure he went to GCU around the same time that Phillips and I went. Unless I'm totally wrong on the Uni part but he definitely lived in the west of Scotland area. Hmm, that doesn't sound stalkerish at all. |

| We played some Halo together before his Gold lapsed.
The hours spent on that forum - would be great to have the time now. Will probably just lurk around here. Watching. Silently. |

| Y'know who else I miss? MattytheTurner. Forum Fiction buddies 4lyfe. Took another look at that awards thread I linked to above: why did everyone vote me for best forumite again? I was such a cocky little berk at age 18. Still, I suppose that's the right age to be cocky at... |

I didn't know you went to Caley! We should have hit The Bedsit! ~ I think that Brawl photoshop was made just before I registered on NGamer. I recognise most of the names - I think a lot of them left just after I joined! Maybe I'm to blame? Ach well, you're all lumbered with me now. I miss Blenderbeer! He PM'ed me to let me know he was a Partick Thistle fan, then sent me abuse. I used to get him and Balladeer mixed up all the time, as amazing as it reads now. |

Beautiful. My word. I remember just about everyone there. (Is this picture immortalised on someone's hard drive now?) I still have MattyTheTurner in my Facebook friend list, I believe... |
