I want to revisit World before Wilds is out but I still have unfinished business with Sunbreak.

Also played a handful of hunts on MH4U with Beemoh the other week before the online is shut off in the new year, it was a nice reminder of why that's still my favourite MH game.

So, what do we all make of the 20th Anniversary Hunters' choice top monster results?

Number one is no surprise. The fact that multiple subspecies are counted as different monsters made it less interesting than it might have been. Rathalos not making top twenty is interesting, though not super surprising.

I would have thought Rathalos a shoe in, much like if this was Pokémon, I would think Pikachu would be on it.
Are fans just bored of that Monster?
Also saw Stories 1 is coming June 14th, and Stories 2 coming to PS4 that day as well. There looks to be a physical of Stories which also includes Stories 2 as a code, if that's like £50 not a bad deal as I expect Stories to be what £30 on its own on the eShop/PSN.

Sure does look like Monster Hunter! This reminds me a lot of the World marketing campaign, which hyperfocused on the realism and hid the real Monhan elements until later, which of course appeals to me less than Rise which just showed us the wackiest monsters right there on day one.

Aye, it looks great but the thing I like the most from that trailer is the call backs to MH4U which isn't a surprise when it's both Fujioka and Tokuda back in the hot seat. Excited to see more on Friday.

Trailer 2.
I was a bit underwhelmed at the initial reveal for this one, but that's because I was expecting a more gameplay focused trailer or maybe even a live demo. Though after watching the trailer a bunch more along with a few peoples reactions it's a really great trailer.
Full cross play is massive for the series & I can't wait to see more of the new thunder monster, very Godzilla-like in the way it charged up it's attack. Also I like the fact out of 5 monsters we've seen so far only 1 is returning.

Know they said hands on demo at Gamescom on the show floor, that maybe they show that as ONL being played for us at home.

Doesn't it feel like those trailers were the wrong way around? The first one was an overall trailer, while the second one was focused on one scene like a "sneak peek".
Also, I compare monsters to Dune all the time and now this?

Went back to World to finish the story, as very much wanted to play some MonHan after the Wilds stuff (yes, could have gone for more Sunbreak) and I still might get Stories.
Worlds still looks great but on PS5 all modes run at 60fps, so was in the graphics mode but if Wilds just looks like this and open-world, the Seikret to ride etc I'd be happy. Think I preferred Rise still as it seemed to have more "story" and Wild seemed to have a lot of I guess hunter tracker mission where scoop out the area to see where a monster is that I can't remember being in Rise.
Then in Rise, and I might be missing something in World, as you had the Village Quest story and still more story afterwards in Hub Quests to take on Narwa eventually, where Xeno'jiiva seemed to be the end of World.
Gone back to listen to some Mash to see what you thought of Va'al Hazak and other Monsters, near the end of World, as the fight was a pain.
Ohh and I switched from Dual Blades to Long Sword as that was what I was using in Rise the first MonHan got really into as I say I did the Narwa quest etc and think it did help here now bing a Long Sword main.

That's interesting - I think we came away with the feeling that World had more story in an egregious sense. I think the difference is that when you're trying to play world in multiplayer or for a more gameplay-first experience, it makes you wait during cutscenes and so on.
Rise, on the other hand, separates out village and hub missions, and allows players to play in multiplayer while basically ignoring the story.
Playing both in singleplayer only, though, I can see why the poems, the quicker pace of getting to missions and the lack of content hidden behind esoteric exploration would make Rise the more story-heavy game.
Despite Andy's feelings, I am gonna give Stories a proper go, so maybe there's a podcast in me, you, Smurf and others who have played the Stories games.

I've not picked up Stories yet, not seen the physical anywhere, though if I did in a CEX code be used for 2.
This morning, we got three videos for Wilds like this
Gamescom is soon and Wilds has been at a few of Keighley's shows, that think we will see it at ONL maybe at TGS as well. Wouldn't be shocked at a Jan or Feb 2025 date for this.

Yep, it was already confirmed for ONL back at summer games fest. These videos popping up today did surprise me, though it makes sense giving that a playable demo will also be at Gamescom.

Will they be at TGS? Only heard about PlayStation being there, but then it's first time in five years, so seems a big deal.
Still if you can surely be a good time and a silly GGS out of it, like who did I play as in Fatal Fury.

Aye, I'm pretty sure Capcom are big on TGS, specifically the MH team marked it as one thing they were looking forward to.
Also I guess the weapon videos are in a random order.

Surely that's Jay's character?
That focus attack is looking good. I did watch Hunting Horn, yesterday and always looks really interesting but I feel I'd be hopeless with it, especially playing MP and you want certain buffs etc.

Hunting horn is the stand out for me so far, it just looks like they've ramped up how aggressive you can be with it which hopefully might be enough to get rid of the "it's just a support weapon" stigma it's had for too long. Also I mentioned this on twitter after the Insect Glaive video & the LS one has only reinforced to me that the weapons could be back to the World design style of bone/ore with a bit of monster trim rather than a fully unique design.
I can only hope that these are the low rank version that later upgrade to a unique design in high rank.

All the weapons are out and rewatching now, I'd go this order on how much I want to use them
•Charge Blade. Mostly because of the armour but does look like a cool ass weapon •Long Sword. I do chop the tail off before you ask •Hunting Horn. As I've already said, don't know if I'll be any good with and how viable in SP due to support weapon stigma, though maybe I use MP with you guys and other weapon in SP. •Switch Axe. I often get this and Charge Blade mixed up, but I liked the defensive option more in the Charge Blade with the shield, though is the sword here more like my long sword or a great sword? More Purple as well, which I do like the male armour on the splash screen. •Sword & Shield. Maybe a bit boring and safe, though for me might be a good thing yet do I need that as I've used Long Sword okay and Charge Blade is an option. •Insect Glaive. Feel I'd forget which buffs to get at what time/where to hit •Great Sword. Maybe a tad too slow for me, and I do like the cloak armour •Dual Blades. My old main, where I dropped off all MonHan games and watching this doesn't do much for me now and feel I'd soon try any of the other weapons. •Gunlance. Like got some options here and the armour reminds me of sisters of battle from Warhammer •Bow. This makes more sense to me to be in MonHan then guns, and I do like the armour here as well. I could see me using in MP if we want a ranged option. •Lance. Less boring than the hammer. •Hammer. Boring and so much purple and I love purple •Light Bowgun. It's quicker than Heavy •Heavy Bowgun. Range weapons in MonHan!?
Now watching I do wonder why not a normal Axe close to Great Sword, like super slow but does loads of damage or Claws to be even more your face than Dual Blades or like a Staff of some sort.

The point I was getting at earlier in the topic is Hunting horn has always been good in single player yet some folk act like it isn't. To the point it confused new players thinking they needed to play their songs away from the monster.
masofdas wrote:

Absolute Blasphemy! I think we need a 7 second ban here.

I'm sorry but all of that just sounds like you're describing Great sword, dual blades and insect glaive.
----
I've still not fully decided on what I'll be playing yet as I need a demo to get a better feel for it, but just off of the overview videos alone? I'm leaning towards Lance, SnS, HH & IG. (even though come end game I'll probably play everything again )
