Forum suggestions

Not really a forum problem, just an idea. How about a GNamer chat room / IRC channel thingy? :idea:

We've (Balla and I) just discussed this idea, but have decided against it. Mainly because of how easy it is to keep track of conversations here, what with our low post-turnover.

Yeah, I agree with that. I remember the chat thread being created back at NGamer because of people using threads as a chat channel, but here, that's not really the case.

And our chat thread is only 12 pages long anyway!

I really appreciate the work that's gone in to optimising the mobile version of the site - thanks guys! (noticed a "new thread" button cropped up recently).

On a related note, any possibility of incorporating a little button at the top of each thread that'll warp us to the bottom of the current page? That'd make replying to threads even zippier.

You may not have much prowess at HTML, but you did a cracking job at forging this forum in the fires of Mount Doom and pouring all your cruelty, malice and will to dominate into it, so there's that.

I'm sure he harbors a secret desire to dominate the races of Middle Earth GNamer though.

I wonder if we could make a GNamer facebook page?

Probably wouldn't see a lot of attention - we have a Twitter though which Stu runs if I recall correctly.

Facebook can attract a bunch of weirdos, so we've been reluctant up to now. The Twitter feed gets a good amount of interaction, though.

Ah. I'm guessing it's forumotion's addition, then? Though admittedly I still use the "classic version" of the website when browsing on my phone.

What does the "friends" option actually do? I've not tried it out - is it just superfluous forum profile nonsense?

I know the foes option should block you from seeing your foes' posts when you're logged on. Most of the people on Retro Gamer are on my foes list. Never tried friends though...I'll try it on you and see what happens.

Nothing's happened... do I need to friend you too for it to work?

EDIT: No, there's a friend request section squirrelled away in the profile. No idea what this does now though...

You have a list for potential friends and foes in your profile, though I've never been forced to investigate what they actually do. Not that we really need to bother here.

Tells you when they're online, I think. Which is fairly useless given the small number of users and the "who's online" bar.

Is it possible to stop words that follow spoiler boxes dropping on to the next line?

Probably not due to the way spoilers work. I can have a check, but I've never seen any forum with such an option, apart from ones where spoilers are managed differently.

I find it a bit annoying when posts are broken-up with spoiler boxes. I liked the CVG way of things, a black bar covering up words.

Horses for courses (which of "course" has a whole new meaning in this day and age). I like being able to use them to shrink down TL;DR blocks of text and pictures. But it doesn't matter since there doesn't seem to be an option to change them anyway.
