This is actually a great idea - each with a special weapon just like in Double Dash. Link could have a bow that goes through several people like a piercing red shell or attacks the person in 2nd if you're in 1st, Samus could have missiles... plenty of opportunity there.

And Diddy Kong's powerup would put him in last place, where he belongs.
