| I'm a bit early here, yet as I said elsewhere today my Switch since about July hasn't got much use. The first game I plan to play on it this year is Peach out in Year 8 of the Switch, how many Year 8 games we get, and make it on what I'd guess be the final list who knows, for now though.... Year One Top 101. Super Mario Odyssey ★ 2. Oxenfree ★ 3. SteamWorld Dig 2 ★ 4. Fire Emblem Warriors ★ 5. L.A. Noire ★ 6. Night in the Woods ★ 7. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe ★ 8. Subsurface Circular ★ 9. Rime ★ 10. Splatoon 2 ★ Year Two Top 101. Super Mario Odyssey 2. GRIS ★ 3. Oxenfree ↓ 4. SteamWorld Dig 2 ↓ 5. Splatoon 2 ↑ 6. Fire Emblem Warriors ↓ 7. Night in the Woods ↓ 8. Subsurface Circular ★ 9. Pokémon Let's Go Eevee ★ 10. Rime ↓ Year Three Top 101. Fire Emblem: Three Houses ★ 2. Super Mario Odyssey ↓ 3. GRIS ↓ 4. Oxenfree ↓ 5. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening ★ 6. SteamWorld Dig 2 ↓ 7. Splatoon 2 ↓ 8. Fire Emblem Warriors ↓ 9. Night in the Woods ↓ 10. Subsurface Circular ↓ Year Four Top 101. Fire Emblem: Three Houses 2. Animal Crossing: New Horizons ★ 3. Super Mario Odyssey ↓ 4. GRIS ↓ 5. Oxenfree ↓ 6. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening ↓ 7. SteamWorld Dig 2 ↓ 8. Splatoon 2 ↓ 9. Fire Emblem Warriors ↓ 10. Night in the Woods ↓ Year Five Top 101st. Fire Emblem: Three Houses 2. Super Mario Odyssey ↑ 3. Animal Crossing: New Horizons ↓ 4. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening ↑ 5. Florence ★ 6. Ori and the Blind Forest ★ 7. Metroid Dread ★ 8. Monster Hunter Rise ★ 9. Pokémon Legends: Arceus ★ 10th. GRIS ↓ Year Six Top 101st. Fire Emblem Three Houses 2. Super Mario Odyssey 3. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening ↑ 4. Florence ↑ 5. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 ★ 6. Monster Hunter Rise ↑ 7. Ori and the Blind Forest ↓ 8. Metroid Dread ↓ 9. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim ★ 10th Triangle Strategy ★ Year Seven Top 101st Fire Emblem Three Houses 2. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 ↑ After playing the Expansion, it cemented this as my second favourite Switch game as a whole. 3. Super Mario Odyssey ↓ 4. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening ↓ 5. Florence ↓ 6. Monster Hunter Rise 7. Ori and the Blind Forest 8. Metroid Dread 9. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim 10. Triangle Strategy - Not a lot of change whatsoever but you can check out my Top 30 like always which does have a few new entries:
From Year 7 we've got Bayonetta Origins, Illusion Island, Pikmin 4 and A Space for the Unbound coming in for Let's Go Eevee, Night in the Woods, New Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Shield. Fire Emblem Engage also moved up a bit, this is after I played the expansion of that as well.

| 1. Super Mario Odyssey
2. Sonic Mania Plus
3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
4. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
5. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
6. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
7. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
8. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
9. Tetris Effect Connected
10. Horizon Chase Turbo
11. Super Mario Bros. Wonder
12. Horace
13. Kirby and the Forgotten Land
14. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge
15. Celeste
16. ARMS
17. A Short Hike
18. Pikmin 4
19. Rocket League
20. Bayonetta 1+2
21. Sayonara Wild Hearts
22. Pokemon Legends: Arceus
23. Pokemon: Let’s Go
24. Luigi’s Mansion 3
25. Super Mario Maker 2
Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Pikmin 4 are the new additions I’ve made since last March. It’s truly superb that we were seven years into the Switch’s run and receiving three games of that all-time-classic quality. We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie, Sonic Superstars and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk were really good games from the last twelve months as well, though probably not too close to this top twenty-five if I’m honest. Maybe I’ll do a longer list when all’s said and done with the Switch; I’m sure those three would feature in that.
Twelve months ago, I’d have bet my house on Horizon Chase 2 finding its way high up on this list for 2024. Yet it was a colossal disappointment and nowhere close to the quality of its tenth-place prequel.
Otherwise, I've swapped out a few games that felt out of place and less ‘deserving’ of what I’ve included this time around, if that makes any sense. Luigi’s Mansion 3 is a good example of that – it’s got flaws and it lasted a bit longer than it needed to, but it’s an overall excellent game that I felt I should recognise. |

| FORUMOTION'S TABLE FORMATTING CAN GET IN THE BIN So. 2023 (with a bit of 2024 that's been utterly irrelevant) was a pretty great year on Switch, right? Not from the looks of my top 10 or my top 25, now extended to 30 because that's what it looks like on my 'phone. The top 10 has one change, with TotK coming in pretty low at 7 to replace Smash Ultimate. (Great game, not as great a Switch game. Much of what made it great was true before Switch.) Only three new games made that top 25/30 as well, once I adjusted for remasters (Ghost Trick) and DLC (Future Connected, otherwise probably just missing out on the top ten). What's more interesting I guess is that I went through my top 100 games of all time this year, and with that came a reconsideration of where everything fitted in. Blue means a rise of at least three places, red a drop of at least four. Oh, and BotW cedes the top spot through no longer being unquestionably my top game. It's still better paced than TotK but TotK does a lot of things better. Nothing does platforming better in almost any aspect than Mario Odyssey. - CAUTION - RANKINGS WITHIN:
| After Year 6 | After Year 7 | 1 | Breath of the Wild | Mario Odyssey | 2 | Mario Odyssey | Breath of the Wild | 3 | Celeste | Celeste | 4 | Untitled Goose Game | Untitled Goose Game | 5 | Xenoblade Chronicles 3 | Xenoblade Chronicles 3 | 6 | NEO The World Ends With You | NEO The World Ends With You | 7 | Xenoblade Chronicles 2 | Tears of the Kingdom | 8 | A Hat in Time | Xenoblade Chronicles 2 | 9 | Smash Bros. Ultimate | A Hat in Time | 10 | House in Fata Morgana | House in Fata Morgana | 11 | Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin | Smash Bros. Ultimate | 12 | What The Golf? | Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin | 13 | Beast Breaker | What The Golf? | 14 | Pokémon Legends Arceus | Beast Breaker | 15 | Jackbox Party Pack 7 | Pokémon Legends Arceus | 16 | The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles | Overcooked 2 | 17 | Metroid Dread | There Is No Game | 18 | Ni No Kuni | Ni No Kuni | 19 | Overcooked 2 | Ys IX: Monstrum Nox | 20 | There Is No Game | Metroid Dread | 21 | Sam and Max Save the World | Tales of Vesperia | 22 | Ys IX: Monstrum Nox | Mario Bros. Wonder | 23 | Nobody Saves the World | Darkside Detective 2 | 24 | Murder by Numbers | Yoku's Island Express | 25 | Yoku's Island Express | Cassette Beasts | 26 | Tales of Vesperia? | The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles | 27 | Luigi’s Mansion 3? | Murder by Numbers | 28 | Darkside Detective 2? | Nobody Saves the World | 29 | Ikenfell? | Luigi’s Mansion 3 | 30 | Monster Boy? | Ikenfell |
Big winners on reconsideration are Overcooked 2, probably the best co-op game I've ever played; There Is No Game, probably the best point-and-click I've ever played; and Ys IX & Tales of Vesperia, two very decent action-RPGs that benefited from reconsideration of other games. Darkside Detective: A Fumble In The Dark meanwhile had a solid flight of free DLC last year, and was worthy of a rise from that. Big losers are Jackbox 7, probably the best party game I've ever played still but pretty simple as an actual game (also Schmitty exists); Sam & Max 1, which gets worse every time I think about its backtracking; Nobody Saves The World, still good but its weaker points looming larger in the rear view mirror; and Great Ace Attorney. Every time I remember Iris Wilson, imouto prodigy extraordinaire, it drops another place. Not overmuch to say about Cappa and Mas' changes. I'm solidly behind Cappa's picks, although maybe not so high: I prefer BotW to its predecessor for reasons given above, and I liked Mario Wonder a bit less but then I'm less of a 2D platformer stan than he. (Yes I still much prefer Celeste.) Meanwhile Mas is as Mas does. He's right about XC3 though. |

| Thanks for reading it anyway! As for "use", gaming as a whole isn't useful. I find it fun, "insightful"'s probably more than I hoped for! Miscellaneous other points: - TING is not the best point-and-click I've ever played, how could I forget about the Hotel Dusk games like this!?
- I can easily see a world where I don't add anything to the list in year eight apart from Pokémon Legends Z-A. It's a world where Nintendo scoot by on ports and smaller nicher games for a while, and the indies I play while sometimes good don't quite make the list. I think this is unlikely but not impossible.
- Apples > oranges. On their own to eat, in juice, in sweets flavourings, and as a cooking ingredient.

| I'm surprised at the crossover Cappa and Myself have with 6 games, and a bunch I’ve had in my list before like Let's Go, or I regard highly like Bayonetta 1+2 from the Wii U or Tetris Effect on PSVR. As I would say we don't have similar tastes when I look at things like Caps Top 100 or what he's finished over the past year, it is more gamey video games like Horizon Chase Turbo compared to my RPG's. With only an odd few such as Penny's Big Breakway, being one we both enjoy that comes out, outside your big Mario games.
The crossover is less with Balla as we only share 5 games in common, yet on paper we should have more in common as I've got 9 RPG's in my list & Balla has 10 (might be genre disagreements) compared to me and Cappa. Though I know I've recommended things to Balla in the past and I could use Unicorn Overlord as a great example of hey here's this highly regard RPG, are you going to check it out?, Think I'm going to and then him not liking it because strategy & choices, vice versa.
What might not be that surprising is I've got the most Nintendo Switch exclusives with 19 out of 30 as the Switch to me is used mostly for Nintendo games, why I get Balla being a tad down at the moment though if Switch was my only system I'd find things to play like Dark Forces, Penny, Unicorn etc instead of playing them on my PS5.
I was talking to EofGizmo, kinda about Switch 2 and am I excited or not about it and do like the Switch? As I didn't like Zelda on Switch, Mario Kart 8D is in my Top 30 but not overly high as played on Wii U, SMASH didn't click with me etc of the bigger hitters, not one for 2D Mario, so it becomes the RPG's and Indies that what I liked on Switch, not what I would call Nintendo games.
Then you all remember I sold my launch Switch as I had nothing to play because in my eyes it was port port port, then Animal Crossing got me back in my with a cheap Lite then picked up a proper Switch again for Monster Hunter Rise to play that on the TV (Why I felt this one clicked for me) and had that two year or so spell of Monster Hunter Stories 2, Road 96 & Mile 0, Metroid Dread, SMTV, Voice of Cards, Pokémon Legends, Triangle Strategy, Chocobo GP, Kirby Forgotten Land, 13 Sentinels, Opus, Mario Strikers, Neon White, Fire Emblem Warriors 2, Live A Live, Xenoblade 3 + Expansion, Splatoon 3, Bayonetta 3, A Little to the Left, Shin Chan, Pokémon S&V, ASftU, FEngage, Final Bar Line, BayOrigins, Illusion Island and Pikmin 4.
Then yeah Switch 2 if it gets those sorts of RPG's and Indies along with a new Mario Kart, new 3D Mario, new Animal Crossing I am excited about the system. |

| And I've got seven overlaps with Cappa. You not liking the two big Zeldas is the difference really there Mas, that and 2D Mario I guess. And yes, I reckon we do like different sorts of JRPGs to some degree. Also JRPGs like Ys IX and Ni No Kuni that I have on my list, you've probably played elsewhere. - masofdas wrote:

This was a bit of a mind-boggler of a two paragraphs! Mostly a Nintendo exclusives machine, then shooting down a lot of the Nintendo exclusives and settling for RPGs and indies. I get it, just, but a bit of a wild ride. I wouldn't say I'm down on the Switch either. I mean, I am at this precise moment, but not looking back over year 7. If you include that DLC and the remaster of my third favourite game ever, I had a pretty good year of Switch, to the point where I gave 2023 an honourable mention in this year's votes! It wasn't an all-timer maybe (only years 2 and 4 didn't have games I put higher than TotK), but it was probably better than the last one. Looking forward to next year... there I'm a bit more down, but also I'm expecting it, y'know? I'm expecting a transition year before Switch 2. If we don't get a Switch 2 announced by EoY, then I'll be down! - JayMoyles wrote:

Yep you've definitely missed a trick there! I think NEO TWEWY has the best battle system in all RPGs I've played, ever. If you've been missing my previous years' posts, might I recommend this one? Also I'd love to see any lists of your own if you fancy sharing them! |

| Yeah NNK, I played on PS3 and still mean to play Ys series at somepoint again likely on PlayStation, so is some extra overlap there like Tetris Effect from Caps list.
More when you think Nintendo it's Mario, Zelda, Kart, Smash that comes to mind and not Fire Emblem, Xenoblade and Bayonetta.
As I say at the moment for you as I predict you won't be that keen on Unicorn Overlord and have you only got it as not much else? |

Also I'd love to see any lists of your own if you fancy sharing them! I've been meaning to go back to NEO TWEWY for a while now actually - I think part of why I love the original so much is that I learned more and more intricacies about its battle system over repeated playthroughs and grew to love the characters and setting even more as I did it. I've got the platinum trophy sitting unearned, so there's incentive if anything else! I've not got a list to hand or anything at the moment - it's been years since I last put one together! I'd have to sit and have a think about it. Maybe I'll put one together before Switch 2. |

| Right, I realised I hadn't shared my top 10 for a few years so thought I should, then after seeing top 30s and 25s I thought I could probably do that as well, then one thing led to another and I ended up ranking pretty much everything I've played on Switch so far a la Balla's big post. So I present to you A BIG FUCKING LIST: - Games 110-101:
110. NBA Playgrounds This just didn't work when I got it, they've since launched a whole new download which supposedly worked better but the damage was done by then.
109. Roombo: First Blood A game that takes less than an hour to complete but 5 minutes to see everything it has to offer, dull and slow with a joke that gets old immediately (It's a Roomba that kills people).
108. Puzzle Book A bit unfair that this is so low as it does exactly what it sets out to do but this is just a load of digital jigsaws, can see it being of some worth if you wanted something to chill out with.
107. Raging Justice A modern take on Streets of Rage, it ultimately felt unsatisfying and meaningless, left little lasting impression.
106. Art Sqool I bet you expected this to be last? It's a little broken but it at least seems aware of how rubbish it is and has a couple of musical numbers that are worth seeing.
105. Bonito Days Pitched as Monkey Target but a whole game of it, turns out that's too much and this felt old very quickly.
104. Toree 3D A simple old school platformer, won't blow you away but it's a good enough distraction for the low price of admission.
103. Wreckin' Ball Adventure Like a lot of these lower games it was just there, a side on platformer where you play as a ball bouncing between sections, fine but entirely forgettable.
102. Please, Touch the Artwork A nice idea for a puzzle game that never really gets going for me to rate it too highly, it's like one of those games that gets good in the endgame except there is no endgame.
101. The Touryst Has a cool artstyle and I like the premise of exploring ruins whilst on vacation but your character is awful to handle and its full of finicky sections that just annoyed me.
- Games 100-91:
100. Pokémon Quest Not a whole lot to this when it can literally play itself but I enjoy any type if "gotta catch em all" and the blocky style was cute.
99. Seal Electric Railway An inexpensive arcadey game about balancing a load of seals on a boat to get them to and from their destination. Worth a look purely for the premise.
98. Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas A bit of a shameless copy of Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass but a decent enough time in it's own right.
97. Eqqo A narrative puzzle game based on Ethiopian legends, fairly forgettable gameplay wise but it has some interesting themes and has huge Ico vibes to it.
96. Super Bomberman R A by the numbers Bomberman but that's not necessarily a bad thing, was great to have as a launch game but is far from essential now.
95. Puyo Puyo Tetris "He got Puyo Puyo in my Tetris" "He got Tetris in my Puyo Puyo". Puyo Puyo takes the focus moreso here and that includes weird annoying characters.
94. Binaries A puzzle game where you control two balls with the same input as the move around different obstacles, can get quite tricky later on.
93. 1-2-Switch Absolutely not worth the £40 I paid for it but a fun time with friends none the less, pretty cool use of the joycons as well.
92. Wario Ware: Get it Together Probably doesnt deserve to place so low but the disappointment in how one of my favorite series missed the mark did not leave a good impression.
91. Peace, Death Like a silly version of Papers Please, a fun concept that doesn't really have the staying power beyond a few levels.
- Games 90-81:
90. Say No! More A fun parody of working life that has a fairly good message about the importance of telling higher ups to fuck the fuck off when they ask too much of you done in an over the top way.
89. Lunistice Harks back to Saturn platformers apparently, a fun enough time if you've no Saturn nostalgia, short and sweet for a low price.
88. Kamiko A 2D Zelda-like that I can't remember much of other than that it was quite a pleasant playthrough in the early days of the Switch.
87. Wargroove Should probably place higher as it's very close to the Advance Wars template but I sadly fell off it before I should have, has a Dog that fights for you 10/10.
86. Grapple Dog A neat GBA style platformer let down by performance issues, I believe they've patched out most the issues so if you play it now you'll likely have a very good time.
85. 60 Seconds Survive a post apocalyptic world by grabbing what you can in 60 Seconds to take down in to a bunker, from there your decisions, item management and a lot of RNG decide what happens.
84. Baba is You Incredibly clever puzzler where words and logic are used to advance through the stages. Would have charted higher if it didn't make me feel like a big dumb dumb.
83. Dr Kawashima's Brain Training for Nintendo Switch You know the drill here, do daily tests and challenges to improve your brain age, I'm not sure if it actually works but its a nice game to play on the regular.
82. Bleed Complete Edition Run and Gun type game with added matrix style slow-mo and diving through the air. A short game but satisfying whilst you're playing it.
81. Super Magbot Puzzle platformer that makes use of Magbot's magnetic abilities, a clever mechanic that wouldn't look out of place in a mainline Mario game.
- Games 80-71:
80. MINIT Fun Racer You have 10 seconds to make it to the end of the course, at least you do at first but upgrades after each run allow you to get that little but further. Fun, cheap and all proceeds go to charity so I'd recommend it.
79. Mechstermination Force From the maker of Gunman Clive, it's a series of boss battles against giant mechs, think Shadow of the Colossus but fun and not up its own arse.
78. Pokémon Unite My first and only experience of a MOBA, it's not for me but there's fun to be had here, especially when it centers around Pokémon in silly costumes.
77. Snipperclips: Cut it out, Together Whilst I did manage to play it in multiplayer as the game intends it was with my uncooperative niece who spent most of the time cutting my character to pieces rather than trying to do the levels. Good co-op concept though.
76. FAR: Lones Sails Perfectly encapsulated a feeling of loneliness and going on a journey in a short, precise adventure where you solo operate a big ship type thing.
75. Arms I first played this at the Switch preview event and thought it was cool as heck, then my wife proceeded to school me on it several times throughout the day, I'm not bitter about it though.
74. Mario Tennis Aces Another victim of modern Mario sports games where it feels like they only do the bare minimum when so much more can be done, gameplay is as great as ever it just felt like it came and went.
73. Octopath Traveller Gorgeous artstyle and classic Squeenix RPG action but the disjointed approach to the story took me out of it a bit too much.
72. Yoshi's Crafted World As cutesy, pleasant and simple as you'd expect from a modern Yoshi game, the arts and crafts gimmick is nice but once I was done this was mostly forgotten.
71. Mario Vs. Donkey Kong A well put together remake that's perfect to play in short bursts however it takes a bit of time to get past the basic "my first video game" levels.
- Games 70-61:
70. Boxboy! + Boxgirl!Another dose of the boxy lad only this time he's brought a broad along with him. Create a limited number of boxes to make your way through the game's puzzles. 69. SpeedrunnersA GNamer Forum multiplayer classic... for the three of us that played it anyway. You have to outrun your opponents whilst avoiding obstacles, can get incredibly tense after a particularly long run. 68. PikunikuFunny and quirky game where you play an armless chap who sets out to save the world, can't remember much about it now besides the fact it was very funny. 67. Bury me, my loveNarrative text (sms that is) based visual novel that follows a Syrian couples journey to flee war and get to Europe, your choices determine which of the multiple endings you get which can vary wildly from pleasant to anything but. 66. The Adventure PalsAnother silly game from the early days of the Switch where a boy and his pals Giraffe and Mr. Rock save the world in a platforming adventure. 65. Donut CountyControl a sinkhole to eat up basically everything you possibly can in this short and sweet game, its another funny one with a whole Racoon conspiracy type thing going on. You can manipulate the opening level so it says "Cunt". 64. RökiPoint and click adventure based on Scandinavian fairy tales, has an interesting story to tell with a nice artstyle and setting with some well developed characters. 63. West of LoathingWhat is this? The funny games section? RPG set in the Wild West that has an open approach to how you go through the game and hits you with jokes or puns at every given opportunity. 62. Steamworld Dig 1 + 2What is this? The wild west games section? I've lumped the two together but the 2nd is the superior game, a Metroidvania where the main direction is down, I thought the vibes were on point with this. 61. Sukai Game
- Games 60-51:
60. Eastward A game of two halves, starts off incredibly slow and dips again halfway through but the highs are really good. Looks and sounds great too.
59. Ape Out Super stylish top down beat-em-up where you play an Ape escaping it's captors. Has a great "fuck you" energy to it when you're squishing the bad guy's guts up against walls.
58. Fortnite When you look past the whole f2p nonsense there's an enjoyable game here, especially when you're joined by a friend or two, what's more you can make Darth Vader do the griddy or actually give Neymar something to roll around on the floor about when you thwack him with a shockwave hammer.
57. Shovel Knight The first game I completed on Switch! A bit like a modern (but still retro) version of Ducktales. Pixel perfect platforming and some lovely music.
56. A Short Hike Does exactly what it says on the tin, can be beaten really quick but I chose to take my time with this one and take in all the various characters and moments through this charming and chill hike up a mountain.
55. Sam & Max Save the World Buddy cop point and click featuring a dopey dog and a deranged rabbit, spends most of it's time trying to make you laugh and for me it succeeds, a good mix of silly and subtle jokes make this a tale worth telling.
54. New Super Lucky's Tale Harks back to the N64 era of cutesy 3D platformers and does a great job of it, no much of a challenge but there's still a nice time to be had and some of the later bonus stages are a treat for the eyes.
53. Super Mario Maker 2 More of the same, it was one of my favourite Wii U games as I could just boot it up and have an endless stream of levels, I even piloted a YouTube series on it. Alas the sequel lost a bit of the magic, possibly due to a lack of second screen, maybe due to fatigue.
52. Stardew Valley Only started playing recently in co-op with the wife and its a nice experience that I could imagine would become a huge time sink if I let it. Full of charm and deeper mechanics than first believed.
51. Pokémon Scarlet/Violet Not the massive disaster that the internet would have you believe, there's a great time to be had as ever with Pokémon but the less curated approach to the main story maybe hampered it a bit. Does a great job integrating online aspects once again.
- Games 51-40:
50. Reventure A peculiar game where you set out to save the princess, hilarity ensues as you fail on multiple occasions and hit one of the game's many endings. It ends up being a puzzle game soon enough where you're trying to find all the endings which have a knock on effect to the main goal of save the princess.
49. New Pokémon Snap A beautiful modernisation of a game that pretty much nailed it first time around. One of the most charming and best looking games on Switch.
48. Toem What is this? The camera games section? Much like New Snap this has buckets of charm as you make your way around various locations snapping locals and their going ons with the eventual goal of seeing a natural phenomenon called Toem, a lovely time.
47. Splasher You have to make use of a paint gun that can create various effects in a fast paced platformer. I feel like this is a real hidden gem, with some tight platforming and satisfying speedy sections.
46. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker What started as a fun bit of side content became a fully fledged game and rightly so, I actually first played it on Wii U and still loved my Switch replay thanks to the fantastically built dioramas and it's all round loveliness.
45. Splatoon 2 + 3 What is this? A tired joke? I feel like this is slightly blasphemous being so low but I just never got in to the Switch games the way I did the Wii U original, still both of these are fantastic games that have so much care and attention put in to them that deserve all the praise they get.
44. Doom (2016) But can Switch run Doom? Absolutely! Somehow this feels as fast and fluid as you'd want the rip and tearing masterpiece to be and all on the lil ol Switch. Set the bar for many impossible seeming Switch ports that I don't think has been often challenged.
43. My Time at Portia The game that I seemingly always bring up, runs like shit but I remember it being addictive back in the early days of the Switch with some lovely vibes and a satisfying game loop.
42. Mario Strikers: Battle League Football Never would have charted this high if it wasn't for the GNamer league, its another lazy attempt at a Mario sports title after all but those weekly games were some of the most fun I've had with multiplayer gaming in recent years.
41. Disney Illusion Island Harks back to a personal favourite from my childhood but a Metroidvania rather than a straight up platformer. Looks beautiful and has some great writing to give the characters more to them than soulless mascot vibes.
- Games 40-31:
40. Rocket League This is one of my all time top 10 games but on Switch its just missing that extra bit of control and fluidity that makes this so good, still a great time to be had on Switch though.
39. Wario Ware: Move It! Wario Ware back to it's best, if I'd have managed to play some multiplayer sessions this would be even higher. It's the usual nonsense with motion controls and enough options to give it legs beyond the initial playthrough.
38. Among Us A game so good it spawned its own discord that aims to replace the forum. Really fun with a discord full of people, had plenty of memorable moments of backstabbing, bullshit and mistaken identity.
37. Yoku's Island Express The most smile inducing Metroidvania on the market, kudos to them for somehow making pinball work in the genre. Actually has some pretty dark moments but for the most part it's a cheery old time.
36. Monster Hunter Rise 4th time's a charm, after a few attempts to get in to the series this was the one that did it. I still only did the base game but after 40 odd hours this was still a satisfying and compelling game.
35. Pokémon Let's Go Did a great job to bridge the gap between mainline Pokémon and Go to make it enjoyable for casual and hardcore alike. The lack of battles when catching was more than made up for with trainer battles that had just enough challenge to make me sit up.
34. Murder by Numbers Use your CPU, look at every clue. Make the right connections and we'll find what's true. Together, we will work it out, I'll protect your honour if you'll be my scout, cause what's out there is a mystery, we'll shine a light of truth and make it clear to see. That murder's never far away but put our heads together and we'll save the day. We might not know what the future holds but just stick with me and we'll face what comes, together.
Its Picross with a campy murder mystery story and an awesome theme tune.
33. Just Shapes & Beats The game that had me emotionally invested in some shapes. You have to avoid obstacles that scroll past to the beat of the music, really fun once you get in to the flow of it and has the aforementioned, surprisingly emotional story mode.
32. The Jackbox Party Pack 3 I first played this during a GNamer meetup and have never looked back, I've since introduced this to friends and family and it's always a great time. If ever there was a game to bring back in to the multiplayer sessions rotation it's this.
31. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Billed as a prequel to Breath of the Wild, I think it's safe to say its kind of not but it's a great time none the less. Take on waves of Calamity Ganon's cronies as all your favourite characters and Hestu. Was great to revisit thay Hyrule and see it in a slightly different light.
- Games 30-21:
30. Pikmin 4 The realisation of a mid-90s dream. Puts the time limit to the side to make it more focused on exploration which suits me down to a tee. The time limits are also there for added challenge later on and the QoL improvements make this my favourite of the bunch. Also that title screen theme is magical.
29. Metroid Dread A game loadsa (that's the official number) years in the making that lived up to the hype. You've got your usual Metroid shtick polished and preened to within an inch of it's life. The EMMI were a great addition too that really ramped up the tension.
28. Super Mario Wonder What if Mario Galaxy but 2D? That's kinda the gist here as a whole manner of wacky effects and gimmicks feature in each level. Gave the 2D Mario a much needed revamp and done with heaps of charm.
27. What the Golf? If one thing has become clear from this list it's that I like a funny game and whether its a little smile or a full on belly laugh from the many unexpected moments, this brings the chuckles. The regular updates and timed level packs have helped cement this as a frequent part of my game rotation.
26. Paper Mario: The Origami King In this same way JS&B made me care for a shape, this made me really care for a Bob-omb, if you know you know. Outside of the fusey lad this has lots of other great moments and well written characters. The experimental approach to battles is a lot better than people give it credit for and the boss battles add a nice twist on it.
25. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening Having never played the original this feels like a great way to first experience the game, the artsyle is so good at making it feel like a modern GB game and the quirky nature of the characters and story are a welcome departure from a more serious Zelda.
24. Oxenfree A sort of coming of age narrative game that centers around some unusual going ons on a near abandoned island. I don't want to say much more as this is often on sale for pennies and its a short experience that absolutely nails the atmosphere that you should play.
23. Horace Caught me completely by surprise, a bonkers, slightly grim yet moving story all at the same time accompanied by fun platforming. Has some great pop culture references including perhaps the best joke ever in a video game.
22. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Let me re-experience the delightful 3D World again, multiplayer and all but also added a great side adventure in the form of Bowser's Fury. Both halves of the cart are bangers.
21. Wandersong A charming and moving story where a lowly bard sets out to save the world. Has some great characters and moments that made this an unforgettable story for me.
- Games 20-11:
20. Luigi's Mansion 3 Takes what was great about the first two games and mashes them together in one of the best looking games on Switch. As ever this triumphs in all the little details, there's so much care taken and the various floors of the haunted hotel allow the game to flex it's muscles with a variety of themes.
19. Untitled Goose Game I dare anyone to play this and not smile, it nails the UK countryside aesthetic as you play a Goose who just wants to be a jerk (with good reason). Full of hilarious moments and a score that's an absolute joy to listen to alongside the honking.
18. Tetris 99 An unexpected take on the battle royale but easily the best one yet, multiplayer Tetris is a great time and this continues the trend with a fast paced game that's full of tense and satisfying moments.
17. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle An early hit in the first year of the Switch that somehow made the Rabbids likeable. A fun turn based strategy that makes sense as a Mario game. Featuring some fun set pieces, a Grant Kirkhope masterpiece of a soundtrack and a great DK-centric expansion.
16. Hades Makes the roguelike genre much more accessible with great gameplay that's easy to get to grips with, a feeling of progress even after a bad run and some great characters. Features one of the most kick ass boss battle themes of all time.
15. Pokémon Sword/Shield Cor blimey guv'nor they've only gone an based that Pokimon in ol' blighty. I think the setting of this actually managed to me feel slightly patriotic (for the scenery, the actual people of the UK suck). Brexitism aside this was a good start in Pokémon's new direction with open areas and raid battles adding to the already top notch formula. Bowtul ov wawtah.
14. Super Mario 3D All Stars Is this a barebones effort release? Sure. Should it have included Galaxy 2? Probably. Does this still include 2 of the best games ever and an interesting departure for the series? Absolutely. I still had a great time with 64 and Galaxy on Switch and whilst my Sunshine playthrough didn't hold up to my nostalgia for it this is still a brilliant package.
13. Animal Crossing New Horizons How would have I survived lockdown without this? Well I probably would have got through a lot more games but instead this came along and helped restore a sense of stability in an otherwise hectic time. Outside of a global pandemic though it's a great effort to bring the series forward.
12. Hollow Knight This had me completely hooked for a good while, a sense of beautiful bleakness was the backdrop for a hard as nails, top notch gaming experience that deserves all the praise it gets. Gameplay is easy to get to grips with but satisfying to master and the atmosphere is some of the best, Deepnest in particular is possibly the scariest location in gaming.
11. Return to Monkey Island Delivered everything I'd hoped for in the return of one of my favourite series. Does a great job of walking the line between fan service and making it accessible for new players, it also has a hint system that feels like a revolution for the point and click genre. All the important story beats are there, memorable characters, humour and twists and turns.
- The Top 10:
10. Portal Companion Collection This was my first experience of the games and they absolutely lived up to the hype. A brilliant mechanic never feels old with so many creative uses applied, all alongside a story that slowly builds as you make your way through each area. The 2nd game is the better of the two with the addition of Wheatley to play off alongside Glados but really they're both essential.
9. Dragon Quest Builders 1 + 2 Another two for one entry as the second game is more of the same just bigger and better. If ever a game felt suited to Switch it's these, very easy to pick up and but very easy to get lost in if you want a longer play session. Story wise you find yourself moving through locations, building up areas and helping the locals ultimately leading to a final showdown with a big bad, the timing is just right so that you're happy to see something new without needing to feel too attached to your creations however there's free play options if you just want straight up Minecraft.
8. Celeste Join Madeline as she aims to climb Celeste mountain as well conquer her own personal (and very real) demons. This is a pixel perfect platformer that encourages that one more go mentality all the while telling a brilliant story that's hard not to get invested in. The retro style aesthetic suits it to the ground alongside it's incredible soundtrack.
7. Pokémon Legends: Arceus Took Pokémon in a new direction and nailed it. Set in the distant past in a time where humans and Pokémon struggle to co-exist you're tasked with researching as many of the critters as possible to help with the development of Jubilife Village. Featuring a gameplay loop that's too satisfying not to point out when many other's already have and a setting that was a fun departure for the series.
6. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD I enjoyed it back on Wii sure enough but on Switch I have a new found appreciation for it. Given where we are with Zelda these days it's ironic that it's greatest strength is the dungeons which on balance, this game probably has the best in the series. Add to that an artstyle which really comes in to it's own in HD and you've got an unforgettable journey in the greatest game series ever.
5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe The pinnacle of the series, so easy to jump in and play whether it's an online session, local multiplayer with friends or even aiming to unlock every little morsel you can from the single player. Add in the DLC courses and this is a massive package (that's what she said) that could meet your karting needs for years to come.
4. Super Mario Odyssey A good blend of the playfulness of Galaxy mixed with the emphasis on larger areas like in 64, this is the best of both worlds. Featuring a whole heap of brilliant moments sandwiched in between exploration and inch perfect platforming, this is pure joy distilled in videogame form.
3. Super Smash Bros Ultimate Much like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe this is the complete package that feels like it might never be topped. Featuring every stage and fighter ever to appear in a series I've already put so many hours in to, this was always gonna be a hit with me but they managed to make it even better with the World of Light mode which was a brilliant way to play through a single player campaign.
2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild What a game, an absolute masterpiece, this came along at launch and totally justified the expense of the Switch on this game alone. It made discovery and experimentation the main focus in front of a back drop of the most gorgeous version of Hyrule ever. An outstanding setting full of outstanding moments to the score of an outstanding soundtrack, quite simply the best game ever...
1. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom ...until the sequel came along and somehow kicked everything up a notch. I think I'm actually in the minority in saying this bettered Breath of the Wild and I'm not gonna argue with anyone who thinks otherwise because it's very close but this somehow managed to wow me all over again. Featuring even more amazing moments, enough changes to the landscape to make it feel almost new and a whole new set of powers that created even more unthinkable possibilities, quite simple the best game ever.

| Great work Smurf, shame about missing good Switch games like Fire Emblem and Xenoblade.
What do I get for playing UGG without a smile? And this likely spur Balla to share his 100 as well. |

| I've only included ones I feel I've seen enough of so Xenoblade 1 which I've played a bit of om Switch isn't included because I don't think it'd be a fair inclusion, same with Engage which I gave up on quite quickly, not because it was bad or anything but rather I wasn't in the right place to play it. After you mentioned both those series it's crazy how much I've still not played on Switch that most would consider top games. I would aim to play a load this year whilst there's not many Switch releases but I'm pretty sure I won't.
Playing UGG without a smile is punishment enough. |

| Yes... ha ha ha... YESWow there's a lot to digest in here! Where does it tip over into 'recommendation' territory Smurf? It could be at number 99 or 80 or 69 depending on how I read it. You're much more complimentary on your games than I am! I'll pick out some bits and pieces: - Spoiler:
99 (Seal Electric Railway) - Aw I love seals, if this was just a bit higher you'd have sold it to me. 89 (Lunistice) - Strongly disagree. 84 (Baba Is You) - Strongly agree. 79 (Mechstermination Force) - Very strongly disagree, just found it utterly without identity and charmless. 76 (FAR: Lone Sails) - This feels like the first or second example of somebody on here actually describing what's good about FAR, rather than talking around the fact that the gameplay ain't all that. Still not a game for me but it's good to see. 60 (Eastward) - Very fair assessment for a game that's very hard to assess. Can see some just utterly dumping on it. 58 (Fortnite) - Is it good that "you can make Darth Vader do the griddy"? I'm coming to it from the outside, but with them just being skins and the daft dances it's always seemed like a great way to cheapen these characters. Compare/contrast with Smash and the amount of love it shows for even its assist trophies. 47 (Splasher) - I forget about this completely in between your mentions of it, then you always sell it to me afresh. I've got to wishlist and try this one before the Switch dies. Oddly my wishlist is mostly platformers at the moment though, so it might have to wait a while. 45 - I'm still enjoying the joke. 42 (Mario Strikers) - If you'd come maybe 5th in the league this'd be down at 74 or something, yes? 37 (Yoku) - What are the dark moments? The only one I remember is the mushrooms. 34 (Murder by Numbers) - You've got me humming along to this damn you. Have you tried Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom? For no other reason than it has a similarly joyous theme tune. 11 (Return to Monkey Island) - I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get this, I wanted to play through the earlier Monkey Islands with The Lady first but she's just shown no desire to make that progress. Which for a Monkey Island fan who loves replaying stuff is pretty poor.
I've got other stuff to say but it's mostly me being a grump about games I'd place lower and that's not what your list's about, it's a great selection of happy little anecdotes. The Bob Ross of GNamer games lists. Lovely stuff! - masofdas wrote:

You get yet another flick on the bonce for trying to replay it. As for me sharing my 100, that's not happening just yet. For one, I'm saving that for when the Switch is done. For two, as Smurf mentions, Balla's Big Post (all three of 'em) already exists. Doing my top 100 right now wouldn't have anywhere near the same impact, and in any case I think Smurf's post is top and should stand alone right now. |

| Thanks for the kind words, I honestly don't know how anyone can subjectively put together ranking lists, I just kinda made a top 30 based on my previous lists/votes and then proceeded to throw games around that on how I felt about them.
To be honest there's some I'd recommend low down and others much higher I wouldn't, Seal Electric Railway despite its placing it an easy recommendation purely for its price and time to play through being so reasonable. To give credit to Fortnite there's certain franchises they really lean in to and put the effort in with, it's no Smash Bros or (I imagine) Kingdom Hearts but it's one of the better games that do crossovers.
Not sure if it means to you but Splasher is from the same team that made the highly regarded Tinykin, Spalsher is the better game though I'd argue. Strikers gets the bump purely for being a football game but the GNamer league is definitely my main motivator, I can't say I'd be as keen or not if I was on the other end of the victories though, I'd like to think so. I may be remembering wrong with Yoku but there was the whole late story twist as well. I'm hoping I'm not overselling Monkey Island but for me at least it felt like a nice new comfy pair of slippers. |

Otherwise though, it looks like a good illustration of a notion I’ve had for a long time, in that you and I have a similarly fine taste in games. ~ Taking an estimated guess, I’d say that I’ve played over three hundred different Switch games at this point. And, fair enough, I haven’t persevered with everything I’ve bought through to their finish but I’ve given most of them enough time to form a measured opinion. There’s no prospect of me sitting down to make a list like treesmurf’s done though. That said, when I look at the bottom of his list there’s a handful of Switch games that immediately sprang to my mind as being worse than NBA Playgrounds and Raging Justice. It might be entertaining to write that up someday. |

To be fair to Bonito Days I don't think I really got my head around how best to play it, a lot of the lower games are all about whether they gave a lasting impression, the only one of which that managed that was Art Sqool but that's because it's really bad. FYI I had this list in my notes for at least 2 or 3 weeks, adding a few lines for games from bottom to top when I had a spare few minutes, was quite enjoyable to do, moreso when I got around to the games I really wanted to talk about. |
