| Wiimote, Nunchuk & Gamepad is by far the best way to play this game. Far more accurate than the Dual Analog, and the permanent map is really useful. I got easily lost when I tried off-screen TV play. |

| Such a shame that you rely on the GamePad's map so much that playing on the GamePad alone is very tricky. I just need ten fruit to complete my first run through, which I'm stretching out for as long as I can because I don't want it to end. |

| I've just passed seven hours and am happy that I don't seem to be anywhere near finishing it. I'm like Dusty though - I'm stretching it out and exploring the different worlds as I don't want it to end. It's been a while since I've felt that way about a game, maybe since the second Professor Layton in 2009. |

| Credits rolled on day 35, after just south of 13 hours' play.
I can see why it gets the flak for being short- although as you can tell, I've been hammering it since getting the game on Saturday. And there is other fruit to collect. |

| Finished the game earlier, after fifty one (game) days and maybe twenty seven IRL hours, enjoyed it so much. Can't remember the last time a game sucked me in like this and made me hungry to play more. Some thoughts on the final area/boss... - Spoiler:
It was rubbish. It was so, so rubbish. I have no idea who came up with the idea for ripping off one of the London 2012 Olympic mascots, painting it gold, and then using it a long, boring finale. I can't get my head around how lazily designed this thing is. Pikmin has always had some really great enemies, and I can't figure out what went wrong here. The other 90% of the game is top notch, but that end boss, and nothing finale have soured it a little for me.
Speaking of the ending, wonder if they're leaving the door open for a follow-up story revolving around how the Drake crash landed on the Pikmin planet? Possibly as DLC (as has been brought up).

It kinda seems to 'just' happen, as well. Maybe that's why the game is seen as 'too short', rather than just 'short'- it stops as soon as it gets going: - Spoiler:
You get the blue pikmin- the last lot you meet- as part of the last major event (the escape of Louie) before the boss, so just as the game's finally given you all your toys and taught you how to use them, you're given no time to play with them.
I know there's the option of getting all the fruit, but I think a lot of people would charge straight into the final level not knowing what was going to happen- and it doesn't look like much of the fruit that's left for me is going to really use all five types of pikmin. Most of the fruit I picked up after that stage was done almost exclusively with blue pikmin.
It'd be like if Portal didn't have the behind-the-scenes bit and ended at the bit where the player does/does not Assume The Party Submission Position- that's the bit where you've been shown everything you need to know and then it's up to you do put it into practice.
As much as the 'gauntlet' format of the final level of Pikmin 3 seems cool on paper, in reality it's fiddly and not very exciting, made worse by a fiddly and not very exciting boss which poses little or no threat.

Overall, pretty great. I enjoyed most of it immensely, despite how familiar a lot of it was to me as a veteran of the series. The only part I didn't really enjoy was the protracted final area and eventual boss battle - unfortunately, that was the only time that I sort of wanted the game to end. Nonetheless, I'll move on from Pikmin 3 with plenty of wonderful memories. Is it better than Pikmin 2? That's debatable, but Pikmin 3 is still better than 90% of the games I've played since it's prequel.

I've decided to turn my attention to Mission mode. I'm a little bit obsessed with perfecting each level before moving on to the next. As a result, I've only played the first two missions. I may prefer this mode to Story mode, I sort of like being tested against the clock, not sure if that's just me. |

| Finished this a few days ago, might try getting the rest of the fruit (54/66) but more likely going to start mission mode. The game itself was really good, i didn't like the last boss though. |
