Correct! There'll be busy spells where I can't, but otherwise I'll be a bit more active on these parts if all goes to plan.

Cool! I also have a work laptop now; one of the benefits of being bought out by a big multinational company* is that they standardise all this and want people to have that. Although no time for GNamer-ing then, my good old personal computer is for that  

*The downside, I don't know if I'm legally allowed to know yet, and hope that no-one knows me on this forum as an outside person - but also to my shame that I should be more vocally anti-capitalist before the "then they came for..." moments.

I think it's okay to enjoy the benefits your job brings, while at the same time being aware of the bigger picture. You didn't instigate the buyout. (Unless you did and they paid you in BBC Micro games.)

Well we were a small company with a good reputation and profitable, and now we're bought out by a big company and it isn't, so there are blanket layoffs, not taking these things into account. Our local team hasn't changed and was doing a good job and still do, but there's less of them now thanks to big lazy corporate meddling. I survived, but not sure that many people were indispensable. Considering options after 2 decades. Still not sure I should put this. I wanted to put an "in lighter news" section here about finding an American colleague in our giganto-corporation with a funny name, but again that makes it easier to trace, because there sure ain't a load of people with this name.

I'm glad you've survived but I think it's fair to have a look around, see what's what. Big lazy corporate meddling won't stop there.

I guess its the same bullshit we're seeing regularly in the games industry. Good luck Jim, and I would advice getting out now rather than when you're unemployed and subsequently have a slightly less desirable CV.
