It hit home for me what an arbitrary cultural bias it is when I watched a bit of a Japanese drama about Ancient Rome. At first I thought it was totally bizarre to see a bunch of Japanese dudes playing ancient Romans. Then I realised, it doesn't really make any more sense to have pasty white British thesps in those roles. That's just how Hollywood portrays "the past".

Surprisingly dark answer to the fifth question though. Sudden mood whiplash there!
My overwhelming pessimism at the direction in which the UK is heading bled into things there.

Link's Awakening was remade for Switch this month, and famously features cameos from Chain-Chomps, Goombas, and other extra-Zelda Nintendo characters. Smash and Mario Kart aside, what Nintendo character is going to crossover into another Nintendo franchise next?
I'd like to see a full-size Nintendo character as a boss in the next Pikmin game. Climbing up Luigi's dungarees, hiding in his 'tache, battering him in the face, making a line of Pikmin to trip him up and then clobber him, avoiding getting stomped on or sucked into a hoover . . . it'd be a chuckle.

Daemon x Machina finally came out this month, but it had already been hamstrung by a demo. that showed it at its worst. Tell us about a time when the first part of a game, or its demo., put you off a game you'd later love.
A couple of action games have hidden what feels like an essential mechanic behind an unlock or a skill tree. Off the top of my head, both Wonderful 101 and Dragon's Dogma started me off without a decent dodge or block, but became much more fun when I had those.
Astral Chain is a perfect example of this too, actually. The opening bits where you just swung away with your baton and hadn't yet unlocked the cool link attacks made the early parts feel kinda dull, all told.

Moyletergust G-00:
It's Halloween in October, natch, and in the words of everyone's new favourite game developer Ikumi Nakamura, "it's spoooky". Tell us about your favourite spooky or creepy video game moment.
I love the opening of the original Bioshock - it does an incredible job of building tension and creepiness as the Splicers stalk you whilst you enter Rapture. Either that or the bit where you pick up a Tonic and when you turn around there's a Splicer standing right in your face. Brrrrr.
In this, the month of Luigi, Luigi's Mansion 3 sends Luigi once more into a haunted house armed with a hoover. What common household item would you use to battle ghosts, and how would it be modified?
The trusty blender and with it, I'll start a YouTube channel about if a ghost will blend or not. Moneymaking and useful!
A Hat in Time came out on Switch this month. We'll keep it simple: what hat would you wear to go on an adventure?
Hats don't fit my stupid caveman head nor do I think I suit any hat, so it'll be a hatless adventure for me.
Little Town Hero met with mixed views this month, suggesting Game Freak didn't quite nail their small town-RPG. What small town or area should they have set a game in, and what sort of game would it be?
Livingston - the game will be centred around finding the best bit of misshapen chocolate from the Cadbury's Factory Outlet in the Almondvale Shopping Centre.
The Outer Worlds launched last month and saw players exploring dangerous alien planets and taking down beasties with an array of futuristic weaponry. If you were tasked with exploring an uncharted alien world, what would be your future gun of choice?
It's going to be some sort of electricity gun, I reckon. Everything in nature - even alien nature - should fear lightning and it could also serve as a way to power the various bits of future technology I'll no doubt require on my travels.
Japan have exceeded expectations again with a great showing in the Rugby World Cup which followed a similar plucky performance in last year's football World Cup. Who's your favourite underdog in sports?
I rooted hard for Costa Rica in the 2014 World Cup. I suppose it would have been Japan in the 2018 World Cup, thinking about it. It's usually Japan - nearly always an underdog and fun to root for.
Balhatdeer:
It's Halloween in October, natch, and in the words of everyone's new favourite game developer Ikumi Nakamura, "it's spoooky". Tell us about your favourite spooky or creepy video game moment. This is unapologetic nostalgia, but it's the merry-go-round from Big Boo's Haunt. I've always had a fondness for the demented circus or funfair in horror, however well-worn the trope is now, and the music stuck in my head for many a year. And now it's in yours! MUAHAHAHA.
In this, the month of Luigi, Luigi's Mansion 3 sends Luigi once more into a haunted house armed with a hoover. What common household item would you use to battle ghosts, and how would it be modified? The humble whisk. It's been modified to create a stream of electricity as you crank the handle. Kills both ghosts and your wrist! Just clean the ectoplasm off before using it to make cakes.
A Hat in Time came out on Switch this month. We'll keep it simple: what hat would you wear to go on an adventure? For practicality's sake, a sunhat. I go pink and crispy at the slightest hint of hot weather, so if there's any chance that my adventure will take me anywhere even moderately warm, a sunhat it must be.
Little Town Hero met with mixed views this month, suggesting Game Freak didn't quite nail their small town-RPG. What small town or area should they have set a game in, and what sort of game would it be? Camden Town, and it should stay a JRPG. The range of subcultures would make for a great choice of enemies, à la the Mother series' use of hippies et al. Plus: London Zoo DLC.
The Outer Worlds launched last month and saw players exploring dangerous alien planets and taking down beasties with an array of futuristic weaponry. If you were tasked with exploring an uncharted alien world, what would be your future gun of choice? Right, so there's this gun, but it's also a sword, but mostly it's a gun, and rocket launchers come out of the sides, and in flight the rockets open up to reveal lots of tiny swords, but also a laser beam comes out of the tip of the sword, and it kills everything and I win the game. Game developers can use the Lasworgun in their games but they have to pay me half the money because it's a great idea and half the sales will be because of it.
Japan have exceeded expectations again with a great showing in the Rugby World Cup which followed a similar plucky performance in last year's football World Cup. Who's your favourite underdog in sports? I changed the county cricket team I supported because my local team has all the money and won the Championship and another team was relegated from the first division for financial reasons. I'm a sucker for an underdog, me.

It's Halloween in October, natch, and in the words of everyone's new favourite game developer Ikumi Nakamura, "it's spoooky". Tell us about your favourite spooky or creepy video game moment. My go-to answer is still that "Ben Drowned" horror story and video with the haunted Majora's Mask cartridge. So good. For something that's actually in a game, I've been really enjoying the spooky atmosphere playing Fatal Frame with Shen.
In this, the month of Luigi, Luigi's Mansion 3 sends Luigi once more into a haunted house armed with a hoover. What common household item would you use to battle ghosts, and how would it be modified? Breville toasty maker. I clamp it around their ghost balls and crank up the heat.
A Hat in Time came out on Switch this month. We'll keep it simple: what hat would you wear to go on an adventure? An obnoxiously flamboyant cowboy hat.
Little Town Hero met with mixed views this month, suggesting Game Freak didn't quite nail their small town-RPG. Horror mystery game where you slowly uncover some Wicker Man/ Hot Fuzz cultish goings on.
The Outer Worlds launched last month and saw players exploring dangerous alien planets and taking down beasties with an array of futuristic weaponry. If you were tasked with exploring an uncharted alien world, what would be your future gun of choice? The devolution gun from the Super Mario Bros Movie. It''d be cool to turn people into chimps.

We've not got many more chances to MtAT, but here's what we remember of November.
Jaycien:
Pokémon Sword came out in November, bringing with it a host of new Britain-based monsters, but missing the opportunity to plunder our rich 'cultural' heritage for ideas. What real-life British person should have got an expy in the game, and what Pokémon should they have had?
Farage - some sort of slimy weasel. Maybe it could evolve into a slimier weasel in the presence of a new Pokémon from the Unova region that uses lots of wall based moves like Barrier and such.
Alongside Sword came Pokémon Shield, described as one member of this forum as being 'for cops'. What's your favourite policeman or policewoman in videogames?
Hmmm... the only one that comes to mind is Wei fromSleeping Dogs. Great game, that.
Death Stranding proved to be rather divisive when it launched last month with some proclaiming it as game of the year contender and others as the most boring game they've ever played. What game do you like that the masses seem to despise or on the flip side, what game do you hate that most folks seem to love?
I wouldn't say hate, but I didn't exactly get along with DMC3 and don't see it as the pinnacle of the series by any stretch like most do.
Stadia! It's here, albeit with a whimper as opposed to a bang. What product were you incredibly excited to get your hands on that ended up to be a bit of a flop?
My last laptop - it was a proper gaming laptop, it was nicely sized so I could do uni work on it and everything and it ended up overheating on a regular basis. Cheers.
The Mandalorian introduced us to the cuteness of what the Internet has coined "Baby Yoda". Which video game character should be "babified" to become the next viral craze?
Baby Tingle. The masses will love it.
Love him or loathe him, Elon Musk announced the Tesla Cybertruck (badly) last month. With its blocky aesthetic it looks like something out of an N64 game, but which N64 game should Tesla have used as inspiration for their new 'hammer-proof' truck?
Superman 64. Elon Musk definitely has Lex Luthor vibes.

What real-life British person should have got an expy in the game, and what Pokémon should they have had? The Queen. A host of Yampers, and then just a bunch of 'Mon knowing Pay Day.
Alongside Sword came Pokémon Shield, described as one member of this forum as being 'for cops'. What's your favourite policeman or policewoman in videogames? It's got to be Detective Gumshoe, pal! Technically a detective rather than a cop I suppose, but he works for the police so I'm having him. His brand of mopey optimism charms me no end.

What game do you like that the masses seem to despise or on the flip side, what game do you hate that most folks seem to love? The latter question's too easy (shooters, roguelikes, anything that looks vaguely like you might see it out the window). I'll answer the former and stick up for Xenobalde Chronicles X: despite its positive critical reception at the time, it's easy to look back on it and see a failed MMO on a failed console, set to bad rap music. The Skells alone made it more than that. It had its weaknesses but it remains a solid 8/10 in my book.
Stadia! It's here, albeit with a whimper as opposed to a bang. What product were you incredibly excited to get your hands on that ended up to be a bit of a flop? The Wii U.
The Mandalorian introduced us to the cuteness of what the Internet has coined "Baby Yoda". Which video game character should be "babified" to become the next viral craze? Yoshi's Island 2 tried that already, so nobody from the Mario franchise. I reckon Baby Fox McCloud would be pretty darn cute.

With its blocky aesthetic it looks like something out of an N64 game, but which N64 game should Tesla have used as inspiration for their new 'hammer-proof' truck? Mario Kart 64. I'd love to bung a blue shell up his smug exhaust pipe.

It... kinda was, overall. The weak launch didn't help, lacking a true killer app. Then there were long drought periods. If we exclude BotW, available better elsewhere and at the same time, only two Wii U games made my top 25 of all time, both since done better on Switch. That's the least of any console after the GBA. Time's been even less kind to it, since most of the good games have come to Switch. I've got fond memories of it, but yep, it was a relative flop for me.
Untitled Gosling Game would be tremendous.

I bet Jay and Balla already said Gumshoe, so . . . Lappy from Astral Chain. Good dog who is actually a good . . . police officer . . . under that costume.

I remember really enjoying the DS version of Peter Jackson's King Kong, despite it being on loads of "worst of all time" lists and shit. Also, I was a big fan of Dark Souls II, which seems to be the one everyone slates, and disappointed by Dark Souls III which people are all about.
