| Okay, first of all I should explain why this one is 9th and XD was 10th, even though they’re on the same points. Here’s the thing: some cheeky bugger voted for XD and Colloseum as the same game so I don’t think the 2 points XD received there are quite as valuable as points it would have collected on its own.# GNamer's 9th Favourite Pokémon Game:- Spoiler:
Pokémon Fire Red/ Leaf Green20 points, 3 votes, 0 firstsChoice tune: Trainer Battle The old classic, jazzed up real nice.

I'm perhaps looking at it the wrong way but the originals haven't aged too well and the Kanto region can be a bit awkward to move around. That being said it still has the nostalgia factor, it's based around the brilliant Gen 3 and the original 151 Pokemon are still some of the best.
Remaking the classics in the RSE style. Good
Generation One for liiiiiiife. Except, it's much better when it's been given the quality of life changes brought in with Gen. II and III, so this is the superior version.
- I say:
These games didn’t make my list. Call me crazy, but I prefer playing the originals. I don’t think the jump to GBA really brough enough quality of life changes to make up for losing the mysterious and nostalgic appeal of playing the original Game Boy game. Plus, the additional chit chat and animation just slows things down. Still, they’re nice enough I suppose. The question now is whether anyone agreed with me. Will we see Red and Blue in this list?

I'm going to hazard a guess in that we won't see Red/Blue on the list, but I reckon there's a chance Yellow could show up. |

Much of what I said about the sequel applies to the original, only the sequel refined it in a variety of areas. Still this was a legendary title for the franchise (as far as I'm concerned at any rate). Mirror B best villain!
A good alternative to the main series, a lot more streamlined and story driven but a welcome change.
Many happy memories of sitting on the Cube playing this banger. The closest I’ve ever come to catching them all as the shadow pokemon mechanic was a banger
- I say:
This game came out just as I became a teenager and was exactly what 13/ 14-year-old Luke needed. A Pokémon game where you play as an adult with sunglasses and a girlfriend and a motorbike. It starts with an explosion! You wonder around dusty towns like a cowboy! Mirror B! It is linear and samey and it has a limited selection of Pokémon but it is super cool and nobody can tell me otherwise.

Me reading the post: " This better be Mirror B!" Me after clicking: " Yeeeeeah, that hits the spot" But while we're talking Colloseum music I'm going to post more, because this has by far my favourite OST in any Pokemon game ever, and one of my favourite game soundtracks in general. A classic. This battle theme feels both extremely Pokemon and extremely Colloseum, and it's just a banger. Move over Team Rocket, there's a new team theme in town! This hits all the spots. Slick bass, awesome beat, and that electric guitar! And for once the team actually deserves a theme like this, because unlike most Pokemon games they actually have good Pokemon! And their Admins take it up a notch. Speaking of which! Did someone order intimidating and difficult boss fights? Because these aren't your normal team Admins. No, these guys bring the heat. Ever wondered what real criminal bosses would use in a fight? Get ready for Legendary Pokemon! And I love the Pyrite Town motif in there. Smooth! Very smooth! Yet again the main series can only weep in the face of this theme! Oh did you think we were done with Pyrite Town? Nope, welcome to the underbelly of the region! And what a tune it is! RELEASE THE SYNTH! Again this feels both very Pokemon, yet with an edge to it that's a perfect highlight for a tough encounter. Oh but it gets better! Check this glorious rendition of Hoenn's gym leader theme! And this is what the remakes SHOULD have done with Steven's battle theme! And last but not least, the final battle! "I heard you like strong Pokemon, so I brought my Metagross, Tyranitar, and Salamence" And just so we're clear I've listened to all of these for the full runtime in the past. I absolutely LOVE this games soundtrack. |

| Colosseum being voted up above XD is pure Brexit. It does nothing better (apart from perhaps the main 'character'), and does a whole bunch of things much much worse. At best it's setting the groundwork, and the payoff came in XD.
Soundtrack is good though, I'll give Athers that. I hope he makes lots more music posts for us all to enjoy. |

Did they write it as Pokemon Colosseum XD? As I've seen that often on auctions etc for XD when looking for it, for instance. |

Balla, less people played XD. It may overall be a better game, but Colloseum did most of the things first, and there is an argument that an evolution is less valuable/ impressive than a revolution. More importantly: THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE HAS BEEN HEARD, STOP MOANING, GET OVER IT. |

There are adventurous level themes, but it’s the menu stuff which tends to get stuck in my head. - You said:
I must have played through this from start to finish twenty times, and it always brings a smile to my face. Sadly, it’s too short to be anything other than a cult classic, but what’s there is very memorable, is presented very well, and is a hugely enjoyable way to spend any hour.
I'm desperate for a new one of these, the only thing missing was more of it. Loved trying to figure out all the different ways to bring out new Pokemon or make them do different actions.
- I say:
My highest rated spin-off. The best Pokémon spin-off, and one of the most relaxing games imaginable. It's just such a fun, simple, dumb idea. When are we getting the Switch sequel that lets us post directly to Insta? WHEN?
It also delivers on the number one thing you want from a spin-off Pokémon game: it gives you a great look at lots of monsters, living their lives and showing off animation and character.

Pokémon Stadium 9 points- You said:
Using this to play Red and Blue on the big screen blew my mind, the perfect accompaniment made even better by the fun mini games.
- I say:
I never owned an N64 as a kid, but I'd make excuses to go to friends' houses just because I really wanted to play Stadium. I cherished the little digital sprites in my Game Boy game as though they were real pets, so seeing them in 3D battles or, even better, in the little minigames, was amazing. As the mainline games' graphics have improved, the appeal has worn off and by the time I played BR on the Wii, it was clear there wasn't enough to it as a game. Still, fond memories are fond. Might have done better if someone hadn’t split the vote by going for the sequel.
Pokémon XD 9 Points- You said:
Bring back Genius Sonority! They did a belting job here, creating what was simultaneously an evolution of Colosseum and a revolution for the main series. A wonder for its time.
- I say:
Might have done better if anybody played it.
- ”Number 4”:
Pokémon pinball 12 points- You said:
I wish I could find this big ol' chunky cart with the built in rumble pack, but sadly, I think I've lost it forever. I'm a sucker for pinball - I was laughed at by the cashier at GAME for buying Metroid Prime Pinball, but fuck 'em, I ain't ashamed - and this is easily the pinnacle of Nintendo's pinball efforts, which is of course a long and illustrious list of games.
You could brain a man with that cartridge. That's reason enough for including it in this list.
It took me a long time to realise how this worked, but once I did it was a banger
- I say:
I played and loved this on my Game Boy back in the day, but I don't really remember. Were they actually good or did I just love them because they had Pokémon in them?
- ”Number 3”:
Pokémon Go 16 points- You said:
It’s a far more polished, deep and complete game now than it was when everyone was playing it back when it came out. Assuming that you’ve pied it like most other folk, I really encourage everyone reading to give it another shot. The mobile app is the most interesting thing that the series has ever done, and Pokemon Let’s Go! feels like the next exciting step for the concept and it’s players.
Yes, you read that right, I'm actually including this title. Its impact on the world, while shortlived, is undeniable. Few events have united the world as much as this game did during its first few months. And yes, I'm still playing it and enjoying it. Beldum community day's coming, you lot better be ready!
It shocked me how much I've enjoyed this but it really is brilliant at what it does. The thrill of getting a decent or completely new Pokemon is almost greater than in the main games and it actually makes me want to go out for a walk.
Do you remember the hype that overwhelmed the Internet when this was revealed? Do you remember the frenzy that captured the general public, even non-gamers, when this launched? It was unlike anything I've ever seen before.
As a game, the core loop isn't anything world-beating but it was simple enough to keep me playing for a fair wee while. Plus, it got folks out and about which you can't say about 99% of video games out there. I've not delved enough into the more gamey bits - the battling, the gyms, the missions and whatnot - to form a strong opinion on this, but I think based on the fact that I had a fun time with it that it deserves a ranking here.
- I say:
I’ve still not really played Go, which surprises folks who know me in the real world and know what a Pokemon fanatic I am. In the UK I didn’t have a good phone that was actually connected to the network, then for my first six months I was reliant on wifi and now I finally have a data plan but I don’t have any other home internet, so I’m hesitant to use up all the bandwith which is how I stay in touch with the rest of the world.
Still, the impact is undeniable and financially at least it is pretty much the biggest earner in franchise history. I guess the lesson here is that people who played XD like it enough to put it above main series games in the big vote, but a lot more people played Go so it leapfrogs its way to a podium spin-off finish.
- ”Number 2”:
Pokémon Colloseum 21 points- You said:
A decent romp through a new kind of Pokémon land, albeit more of a set-up for what would come later.
- I say:
Yeah, it’s good innit? Sorry, I only wrote about this the other day.
- ”Number 1”:
Pokémon Snap 22 pointsYASSSSS! Well deserved, and I didn’t even fiddle the results: I genuinely voted before I read any of what you guys sent me.

| Pinball was robbed. Robbed, I say!
I meant to add something to my comment about Pinball - I think it was an even bigger treat playing that as a sprog considering the sprites were a fair bit more detailed than their R/B/Y counterparts, so seeing the 'Mon in better detail was something to behold.

| Right, that's all the spin-off gubbins out of the way. Now it's time for shit to get real: main series Pokémon Games. GNamer's 6th Favourite Pokémon Game:- Spoiler:
Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald38 points, 6 votes, 1 firstChoice tune: Battle With Kyogre/ Groudon/ Rayquaza I think this is the first time in the series different wild Pokémon had their own music. The legendaries were a bigger part of the game here than ever before, and this track was just absolutely incredible. The sense of import it lent the battle was exquisite. - You said:
These for me are what gen 1 and 2 are for everyone else. For me these games were the ones that captured my imagination. The music, the regions design, and the legendary Pokemon all struck a chord with me. And for all the people who said too much water? Use repels, they exist for a reason.
Good as they were, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were never going to live up to when I played this for the first time. I bought Ruby AND Sapphire, played the game through multiple times, and I think I might even have completed the Hoenn ‘Dex? I’d never get that close again.
Probably the first Pokemon game I properly got stuck in to. Despite the claims there's TOO MUCH WATER I loved that part of the game and all the secrets it held. Another really good selection of Pokemon to choose from too.
5th on my list as there was too much water.
The best, great secret bases, a good world, cool bikes, strong new Pokemon.
- I say:
My feelings about the third gen are very mixed. I remember disliking the over-abundance of humanoid Pokémon (although Sableye is up there as an all-time fave), I don't like Hoenn and its surfing, I didn't feel it was a big enough leap . . . I still put an insane number of hours into it, but perhaps because Pokémon's popularity had waned a little at this point and I was playing alone, it didn't shine as brightly as its two predecessors for me. I also fell off the remake about halfway through, but I think it just released when I had too much else to play. I'm playing it again as part of my mission to have a save file of every game within reach of Pokémon Bank. Hopefully it'll grab me more this time.
Also, the third gen failed to introduce a bear Pokémon.

More importantly: THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE HAS BEEN HEARD, STOP MOANING, GET OVER IT. So wait: you're saying a majority voted for something new over something old but better, mostly because it wasn't the status quo, without being armed with enough information to make an informed decision; and that people who preferred the other option should stop moaning about it? #DrunkawasproBrexitallalong I did not vote for Snap at all. Probably because I didn't play it at the time. It never felt that great to come back to years later, either. RSE was a flawed generation with some good monsters. |

Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal39 points, 7 votes, 2 firstsChoice tune: Goldenrod A real ear-worm, this one. Plus I love Osaka. - You said:
Everyone always has a thing for their first Pokemon games, and Gold was mine. The Pokemon designs were top notch, there was tons of challenge to be had, and two regions is hard to beat (even if one of them is gutted of half its content).
If Red and Blue made me feel like the excitable child, this, with its development of the mechanics I knew and its surprisingly emotional destruction of Cinnabar Island, felt like growing up. It wasn’t, but I didn’t know that, and neither did the Seadra I evolved.
Nostalgia is king, sure, but I still reckon this is so damn good for introducing many of the quality of life changes we take for granted in Pokémon now along with giving us a smashing roster of 'Mon. Also, there's been nothing in the series to date that has matched the feeling of returning to Kanto and battling Red atop Mt. Silver.
I think I’ve started it the most times as I only ever borrowed it from other people. Good though innit
- I say:
And then there came a sequel. More colourful, more Japanese, more Pokémon. Johto is a gorgeous region (I basically spent the best three months of my life living in it), these Pokémon are all great, and the fantastic second half courtesy of the late, great Mr Iwata . . . phenomenal stuff.

| I'll bite on predictions!
3: Platinum/Diamond/Pearl
My hard-on for Platinum likely only includes myself, but at the same time gen 4 did so many things right (Cyrus, special/physical split, region) that I feel confident it featured in enough lists to get a mention, but no higher than this.
2: Black and White
For a lot of people these are higher than gen 4, and it's easy to see why. On the surface the story took bounds forwards, and it was the last pair of games to have any actual difficulty beyond surprising the player with cheap surprises (looking at you Sun and Moon Smeargle, it was a cute trick but wouldn't fool me a second time). Couple that with its overall fresh feeling as a soft-reboot and, yeah, I reckon it'll rank number two.
1: Red/Blue/Yellow
Too many people have too much nostalgia for this not to be number one. I mean even I gave it a spot.
I could also see X and Y possibly edge out either of the last two, but on the other hand its sheer forgettable nature and how much it babied the player (the start of a trend that continued and ruined Sun and Moon) I could see this doing fairly poorly compared to if this was a few years ago when it had just launched. Meanwhile I fully expect Sun and Moon (and their somehow lamer sequels) to not rank at all, as they deserve.
On the previous stuff, I missed the boat when it comes to Pokemon Snap. Never played it as a kid. Looking back I'm ashamed I completely forgot about the Stadium games though, but on the other hand the fact I did should disclude them from my vote anyway. |

| G/S/C was my first placer so I must admit I'm disappointed that it charted as low as it did, but even still, I get it - my vote was fuelled heavily by nostalgia, after all. As for predictions for the top placing games... 3) Black/White 2) R/B/Y 1) Sun/Moon - masofdas wrote:

| I think Jay's nailed it, except I reckon RBY will scrape to the top spot, even more heavily fuelled by nostalgia. I reckon not enough people liked/played DPPt for Platinum's superior quality to shine through. HGSS were chuffing amazing, and if they weren't remakes (and were instead, say, gloriously enhanced sequels that played clever tricks with the original's setting... yes I'm still bitter) they'd have been right up there for me. I still gave them points, natch. - OrangeRakoon wrote:
