| Howdy folks. I had a wee idea for a gaming quiz with an ongoing leaderboard which I felt could be a laugh. There'd be different categories like a gaming music round, a picture round, quotes and so on. If this goes down a storm, then I'll keep it going for the foreseeable future - if not, then hey, we gave it a go! If you'd like to test your gaming knowledge, then our first category will be below. The rules! 1 point per EASY question answered correctly 2 points per MEDIUM question answered correctly 3 points per HARD question answered correctly Don't cheat, please. I can't prove you didn't look up the answers, but there's no point in Googling the answers to the questions. There's nothing on the line here - as the saying goes, you'd only be cheating yourself! Post your questions in a spoiler box and after a week or so, I'll tally up the results from Round One and move onto the next category! No peeking at your fellow contestants's answers, too. Here we go! - EASY:
1) Since Super Smash Bros. Brawl, a number of characters from games not published by Nintendo have made their way into the iconic platform fighting game series. Name at least six of the eleven total guest characters in Smash.
2) The Switch has captivated us since its launch in March 2017, but what was its codename during development?
3) Final Fantasy has been going for a bloody long time now. What number are we up to for mainline Final Fantasy games?
4) Mario hasn't always been on a quest to rescue Princess Peach. Who was the plumber looking to save in his debut title, Donkey Kong?
5) What fighting game series would I be playing if I was deciding whether to choose Eddy Gordo, Jin Kazama, Heihachi Mishima or Nina Williams?
- MEDIUM:
1) How many Nintendo consoles have launched with a Zelda title for one of its launch games in Europe?
2) What voice actor has given his vocal talents to both Batman in Telltale's Batman and The Joker in Batman Arkham Origins?
3) Nathan Drake has been adventuring his way across a few different games now, but what was the subtitle for his first adventure?
4) Injustice 2 saw Mortal Kombat developers Netherrealm Studios flex their fighting game muscles for the DC Universe, but which two Mortal Kombat characters made the leap as DLC to fight with Batman and Superman?
5) Super Mario Odyssey saw Mario globetrotting to different kingdoms in a moon-collecting adventure - name five of the Kingdoms that Mario and Cappy visit.
- HARD:
1) Fighting games do love a guest character, but it might have been the Soul Calibur series that kicked this off. Across the six mainline Soul Calibur games, name all of the guest characters including DLC.
2) Mega Man has seen his fair share of battles with the Robot Masters... don't worry, I'm not going to ask you to name all of them. I just want to know the names of all 8 Robot Masters Mega Man faces in Mega Man II.
3) Before the DS reared its dual-screened head and became Nintendo's primary handheld, a number of different Game Boy variants hit shelves. Name each model of Game Boy released in Europe from the original up to the end of the Game Boy line.
4) Which first-party Sony title did Metal Gear Solid crossover with in 2004?
5) Not counting remakes, remasters, yet to be released titles, the CDI games or that one Zelda Picross game, how many times does the word "of" appear in the titles of the Zelda series games?
Good luck! |

| Ready to fail! - EASY:
1) **** OFF Ryu, Ken, Pac-Man, Cloud, Sonic, Snake. 2) The NX! Next time don't ask one where a sub-forum subtitle is the answer. 3) 15. 4) His then-ladyfriend and mayor of New Donk City, Pauline. 5) The one with Liam Neeson in... Tekken, that's it.
- MEDIUM:
1) ...three? LttP, BotW, TP? Argh...
2) Troy Baker? He's about the only voice actor I know. Him and North. ARGH IT COULD BE EITHER (but Baker's my answer)
3) Drake's Fortune or something like that. I should be able to answer this because I posted the box art for Abort or A Port. I can't.
4) Scorpion and Sub-Zero? They're the obvious choices, aren't they? Bleah.
5) FINALLY ONE I CAN DO. Mushroom Kingdom, Cascade Kingdom, Metro Kingdom, Moon Kingdom... oh Jesus. Er. Ruined Kingdom. Phew. (If you need other names: Fossil Falls, Bubblaine, Steam Gardens, Tostarena, New Donk City.)
- HARD:
1) ALL OF THEM? Oh God. Link, Spawn, Heihachi Mishima, Yoda, Darth Vader... er... I'm sure there were more.
2) Flash Man, Metal Man, Wood Man, (I can't defeat) Air Man, Quick Man, Crash Man, Bubble Man... Heat Man? Tough, man.
3) Game Boy, Game Boy Colo(u)r, Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP, Game Boy Advance Micro... and I don't think the Game Boy Light made it out over here so I'm going to say that's it, those weird bath games aside.
4) It'll be an odd one won't it? Strewth, I don't even remember this happening... Tomb Raider I guess.
5) LoZ LoZAoL LoZLttP LoZLA Oracles... we're up to 9 already... LoZOoT LoZMM LoZWW LoZTP
LoZLCT (you didn't say to ignore non-Picross spin-offs, and if you'd meant us to you wouldn't have mentioned Picross at all; but I don't think the Warriors titles have LoZ in the title) bugger it it's probably just LCT anyway LoZMC LoZFSA (the original FS didn't come out on its own, only in a remake... so I reckon I ignore it; same with the packaged-up Tetra's Trackers) 16... LoZPH LoZST LoZSS LoZALBW LoZBotW Twenty-two! Perhaps.

| The focus on fighting games is more my personal taste in games bleeding into what questions came to mind first, so I'll aim to avoid that in future. Noted on the list questions - looking back, I do see a few too many of that style of question.
I'll give you all a couple more days to answer before I grade your performances and put up the next round! |

| Muss got his answers in literally as I was typing this... lucky lucky! And so... the answers to Round 1, and your scores! - EASY:
1) Since Super Smash Bros. Brawl, a number of characters from games not published by Nintendo have made their way into the iconic platform fighting game series. Name at least six of the eleven total guest characters in Smash.
Any six of... Snake, Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Cloud, Bayonetta, Ryu, Ken, Simon Belmont, Richter Belmont or Joker.
2) The Switch has captivated us since its launch in March 2017, but what was its codename during development?
NX.
3) Final Fantasy has been going for a bloody long time now. What number are we up to for mainline Final Fantasy games?
15. Or XV for you pedants.
4) Mario hasn't always been on a quest to rescue Princess Peach. Who was the plumber looking to save in his debut title, Donkey Kong?
Pauline.
5) What fighting game series would I be playing if I was deciding whether to choose Eddy Gordo, Jin Kazama, Heihachi Mishima or Nina Williams?
Tekken.
- MEDIUM:
1) How many Nintendo consoles have launched with a Zelda title for one of its launch games in Europe?
Just two - Wii and Switch.
2) What voice actor has given his vocal talents to both Batman in Telltale's Batman and The Joker in Batman Arkham Origins?
Troy Baker.
3) Nathan Drake has been adventuring his way across a few different games now, but what was the subtitle for his first adventure?
Drake's Fortune - I meant his first game, not his prequel and chronological first adventure.
4) Injustice 2 saw Mortal Kombat developers Netherrealm Studios flex their fighting game muscles for the DC Universe, but which two Mortal Kombat characters made the leap as DLC to fight with Batman and Superman?
Sub-Zero and Raiden. Scorpion was in the first Injustice game.
5) Super Mario Odyssey saw Mario globetrotting to different kingdoms in a moon-collecting adventure - name five of the Kingdoms that Mario and Cappy visit.
Any 5 of... Cap Kingdom Cascade Kingdom Sand Kingdom Lake Kingdom Wooded Kingdom Cloud Kingdom Lost Kingdom Metro Kingdom Seaside Kingdom Snow Kingdom Luncheon Kingdom Ruined Kingdom Bowser’s Kingdom Moon Kingdom (I'll count Dark/Darker Side) Mushroom Kingdom
- HARD:
1) Fighting games do love a guest character, but it might have been the Soul Calibur series that kicked this off. Across the six mainline Soul Calibur games, name all of the guest characters including DLC.
Link, Heihachi, Spawn, Yoda, Darth Vader, Starkiller, Ezio, Geralt and 2B. I didn't count Yoshimitsu as he's basically inspired by the character from the Tekken series, not a "guest" as such.
2) Mega Man has seen his fair share of battles with the Robot Masters... don't worry, I'm not going to ask you to name all of them. I just want to know the names of all 8 Robot Masters Mega Man faces in Mega Man II.
Metal Man, Air Man, Bubble Man, Quick Man, Crash Man, Flash Man, Heat Man, Wood Man
3) Before the DS reared its dual-screened head and became Nintendo's primary handheld, a number of different Game Boy variants hit shelves. Name each model of Game Boy released in Europe from the original up to the end of the Game Boy line.
Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Colour, Game Boy Advance, Advance SP, Micro
4) Which first-party Sony title did Metal Gear Solid crossover with in 2004?
Ape Escape
5) Not counting remakes, remasters, yet to be released titles, the CDI games or that one Zelda Picross game, how many times does the word "of" appear in the titles of the Zelda series games?
22. As Balla rightly, Four Swords was released as part of a remaster, so it didn't count.
And... the leaderboard. Remember, you get 1 point for an Easy question, 2 for a Medium and 3 for a Hard question answered correctly. 1) Masofdas - 22 2=) Jimbob - 20 2=) Balladeer - 20 4=) Crumpy Andy - 17 4=) OrangeRakoon - 17 4=) The Cappuccino Kid - 17 4=) Drunkalilly - 14 The_Jaster - 11 9) Muss - 10 Please stay tuned for the next round... the picture round! As in - in the next couple of hours, I've got to do something first. |

| I'm top of the league, I'm top of the league
Dam it though I put 22 to start with then changed to 23 as I thought miscounted due to Zelda II.
Also in 99 like I said Yoshimitsu was a big deal but hey doesn't make any difference. |

| Four Swords was originally released as part of Link to the Past on GBA but has since been released as a standalone game on the 3DS, hence I counted it. |

| I presume that the standard 'disrespecting the umpire/referee' rules from your average sport apply, Jay? I'm not doing too badly! That's about to change, mind... |
