| I don't mind archaic mechanics at all as a rule, but I'm more sympathetic towards traditional RPGs in this regard. Earthbound (from what I've played of it), bored me stupid if I'm honest. The battle mechanics of said game must've felt backwards even when it was released. |

| @Balla I think it would, maybe if PS comes up in a sale then for like a fiver. Still might be worth a punt.

| I've recently been revisiting Sega AM4 games, so Super Monkey Ball and F Zero GX. The GameCube's analogue stick really is the best. Going back to the Wii U GamePad's felt strange, it just doesn't have the same tactile feel. - Stu_the_great wrote:

Yeah, I just can't get back into Earthbound anymore. It's charming, but the menus could have done with a lot of streamlining. |

| It was the battle system that killed the game for me. Not even seeing your characters on screen really detached me from them, and it felt like the game was going out of its way to go back in time. |

| I couldn't get on with Earthbound either,
Back to Pier Solar if you have played Phantasy Star or Pre-VIII Final Fantasy then you will like PS as it looks and feels like one of them but the it's mainly compared to Lufia or Lunar can't remember which I gather the latter as that was on SEGA systems. |

| The oldest RPG I've ever played is Dragon Quest IV, which I enjoyed very much now I think about it. I've never played a FF game before or after VII (which I didn't get along with back in the day), and I've never tried a Phantasy Star game of any description, not even Phantasy Star Online. |

| As I've stated elsewhere, I didn't grow up with any RPGs at all unless you count Pokémon, but by that time I was sixteen years old anyway. |

| I played a bit of phantasy star online & remember being constantly insulted via the text chat when I asked for any kind of help, needless to say I returned to the safety of Worms world party for my DC online fix. |

| Earthbound's mechanics did get in the way of enjoying it, sadly, but I found it worthwhile. Heck, I'm playing the original Final Fantasy, whose menus rolled off the Ark. |

| Has that made it to Wii U VC now? I seem to recall it doing so in a Hanabi Festival event, or whatever they were on Wii. |

| What Earthbound, it's been on the Wii U VC for a while now.
I guess FFI zero is playing on some sort of phone. |

| Nope! I'm playing the Wii VC version through the Wii U's Wii mode. Wii. I am, however, replying to this on a mobile phone! |

| I've been playing Ratchet and Clank (well, the HD remake on PS3) and I'd really forgotten how charming this game was. I need to get around to playing the apparently much better sequels too. |

| Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction is probably my favourite PS3 game (from the limited number I've experienced). I really recommend it, it's so much fun! |

| I picked up Phantasy Star Online 3 today - the one for the Gamecube. Was only £6 in CEX and it's a game I've always been intrigued by. Does anybody know if it's an immersive game or just a generic RPG?
Started Mass Effect 3 yesterday and don't really want two RPGs on the go! |

| Completely different games but all I remember about PSO:III is being chucked right into a card-battle and that's about it while Mass Effect 3 is the end of the best game series of all time, there's no real question which to play.
But that's a bargain for PSO:III. |

Yeah, I got the original trilogy HD collection for about a tenner, so I'll get through those before going for the PS3 Ratchets. |

| I was watching GameTrailers game preview with one video being about indie & underdogs where Elysian Shadows which is coming to Dreamcast popped up. I didn't think I would see that on a more main stream site in till near release & that be one page on IGN.
Anyway I tweeted the team behind the game they were like OMFG but looking at there tweets I saw this video and then this. I've talked about some of them in the Indie & Homebrew thread but like that video brings up all other retro console don't get this much love but the DC does.
So a bit of a random thought Why?
I love my DC and I think it's the best console ever for what it did for the industry & it's fantastic game library but I remember either JayBob bringing up these teams could be making stuff for PS4 etc (some games are on there) and not wasting resources on making a game for a console that died officially in 2001 (in the west, 2007 in Japan) & selling to maybe 20,000 people at the most.
Only reason I can see it being loved so much is SEGA fans & the DC being there last system that some wanted to keep SEGA systems alive. |

There'd be the same thing happening if it had been Nintendo - the fanbase on both sides is rabid enough that indies could still sell games and reach a small but loyal following. |

| A question more aimed at Jay but everyone chime in,
My most local CEX has a rather big PS2 section and so does my local indie store who recently had sealed Kingdom Hearts game for £10 which I was surprised how cheap they were that I almost bought to put on eBay but looked to see they go for nothing.
As I've said else where retro gaming for the N64, SNES etc has become daft and for likes of the Saturn not much on it that you rarely see games in the wild and if it is good it's expensive .
Which brings me to the PS2 as you know I was a X-Box & Cube & DC fan during the 6th gen and still have 1 or 2 games for the Cube & DC with games I can't get else where and still hold up to play.
Back on CEX etc they do have a lot of X-Box game but most I have played and don't feel like going back to and if I was going to go back to I would play else where like Halo 1 on Xbox One.
As I missed a lot of PS2 games wasn't sure if worth picking up as I can get likes of Final Fantasy XII for £5, Primal for £1, Yakuza for £4, Dark Chronicle for £20 which is about as expensive PS2 games get.
So do you think there might be a few titles worth getting that I might of missed, also i would like pick up ICO etc as there just classic and I'm not buying a PS3 or subbing to PSNOW. |
