| Subject: Nintendo Digital Event (and E3 2014) Sat 10 May 2014 - 10:37 | |
| A month until the Nintendo Digital Event? Time for this year's E3 thread, then! I'll edit this OP with key links as they become available. All aboard the hype train! Links to streams: Nintendo's E3 site Nintendo's Twitch channel CVG should have links to the other streams. - Conference timings:
- Timetable of Nintendo events (Axis1500):
As we all know, despite Nintendo not holding an E3 presser proper they're still going to be the most interesting thing there. We have the Nintendo Digital Event replacing the presser, Nintendo Treehouse offering deeper looks into the games, a SSBU invitational tournament, and playable SSBU at Best Buys. Are there even any Best Buys in the UK? I don't know. Nintendo E3 Introduction Video- Full Nintendo E3 Statement:
Super Smash Bros. Invitational
2014 will see the arrival of not one, but two new Super Smash Bros. games: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. To commemorate this occasion, Nintendo is inviting 16 highly skilled Super Smash Bros. players to the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles to compete in a Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournament. Thousands of fans in the audience and countless more watching a live stream online will see new Super Smash Bros. characters clash with existing favorites in action for the first time. More important than declaring a winner, however, this event is a celebration of all things Super Smash Bros., and a great way for new and veteran fans to take part in a tribute to this legendary franchise. More information about the 16 invited participants in the tournament, the identity of the announcers, and how fans of the franchise can view the tournament in person and via webcast, will be communicated shortly.
Nintendo Digital Event
Every year, Nintendo looks for the best way to show its games and share its news with fans, media and other key audiences. In 2013, Nintendo decided to forgo a traditional press conference and use a video - in that case a Nintendo Direct - to share its news from E3. The company is building on that approach at E3 2014 with the "Nintendo Digital Event," a new kind of video program that will reveal and provide further detail about the gaming experiences on the way for Nintendo platforms in 2014 and beyond. The Nintendo Digital Event will air at 9 a.m. PT on Tuesday, June 10.
Nintendo Treehouse: Live @ E3
This year, Nintendo will offer fans a deeper look at Nintendo's biggest games of E3, with information directly from the source. The "Treehouse," the Product Development department at Nintendo of America, will provide in-depth game demos live and unscripted from Nintendo's booth. This new program will be live streamed during all hours of the E3 show. Fans can get settled in, open their browsers and experience the Nintendo games at E3 like never before.
Super Smash Bros. Smash Fest @ Best Buy
In 2013, Nintendo broke new ground by expanding its E3 activities outside of the walls of the Los Angeles Convention Center and letting fans play some of the games being played on the show floor at participating Best Buy stores. The partnership between Nintendo and Best Buy continues in 2014 and will mark the first time around the world that fans have had the opportunity to get their hands on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
What might we be expecting to see, then? - Wii U:
Bayonetta 2 X Hyrule Warriors Yarn Yoshi Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem Super Smash Bros. U Sonic Boom I guess Project Zero/Fatal Frame? Pokken? Legend of Zelda U? Miyamoto's new franchise?
- 3DS:
Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire Super Smash Bros. 3D Bravely Second? Phoenix Wright Meiji/6?
Tomodachi Collection 2: Same-Sex Romance For All
And of course the Nintendo Figurine Platform. - Multiformat with Masofdas:
- Microsoft Game On:
This M$ event will be live at 5.30pm BST on the 9th of June, You will likely see the following in some form: 3rd Party Indie Sunset Overdrive D4 Fable Legends Gears of War 4 Halo 5 Quantum Break Forza Horizon 2 (Guess of mine) Halo 2 HD (Guess of Mine) New IP A exclusive from a Japanese studio
- Sony:
Sony will be showing on the 9th: time 2AM BST. Likely to see in some form, if the rumours are true as well: 3rd Party including Grand Theft Auto V PS4 Edition Indies in a big way Uncharted 4 Media Molecule’s new title Gran Turismo 6 PS4 Edition / Gran Turismo 7: Prologue God of War 4 God of War Ascension PS4 Edition Sony Bend’s New Title AKA Kill Strain / Syphon Filter reboot Wipeout Quantic Dream's New AAA Title Beyond Two Souls PS4 Edition The Order: 1886 Ninja Theory's with PS4 exclusive Sony London with a title Guerrilla Games with their RPG title Sucker Punch with Infamous Second Son DLC Sony Japan Studios with Project Beast, Last Guardian (Yeah right - trolling ed) & Maybe something else Driveclub Lily Bergamo Deep Down Planetside 2 H1ZI EverQuest Next Project Morpheus PlayStation Now Sizzle Real for PS3 & VITA
- Third Parties:
EA & Ubisoft will be showing on the 9th after M$ but before Sony, also EA plan to show 6 new titles but take that with a pinch of salt as that will likely include likes of Star Wars Battlefront but there will be no Need for Speed this year. Not sure if any others will have events but likely to see these games from the likes of Konami, Capcom etc in some form.
Alien: Isolation Assassin's Creed Unity / Comet Batman: Arkham Knight Beyond Good & Evil 2 Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare The Crew Cyberpunk 2077 Destiny Disney Infinity: 2.0 Edition Doom 4 Dragon Age: Inquisition Dying Light The Evil Within Evolve Final Fantasy XV Kingdom Hearts III Lords of the Fallen Mad Max Mass Effect 4 Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Mirror's Edge 2 Resident Evil 7 Skylanders: Trap Team Star Wars: Battlefront Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6: Patriots Tom Clancy's The Division The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
As for my personal thoughts, as I may have mentioned I'd rather see a presser than the Nintendo Digital Event. At the end of the day, though, it's all about what's shown; and there I'm torn. A couple of lacklustre showings in previous years, low on surprises, have reduced my hype levels somewhat, and I'm fully expecting a big emphasis on the nice-but-not-really-my-thing NFP; but at the same time, if Nintendo are going to come out swinging any year, it has to be this one, really. So maybe I'm being too cynical, and should be expecting brilliance.

| The last few E3 events have taught me never to expect anything. There are four franchises on the graphic in the OP that I would have said I'd be very surprised if we heard about, right up until the announcement of the NFC games. They could go anywhere and that, for me, is where the excitement might come from.
Equally, some bizarre steps: announcing Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire with about a month to go until E3? The buzz from it would have been fantastic. Ditto (ha!) the stuff about the NFC games. I suppose we'll get more details, but both of those announcements (well, more the former) would have taken the roof off. |

| I wouldn't be surprised at a Indie Sizzle real and a 3rd Party sizzle as well with likes of Skylanders, COD, Watch Dog's. I'm excited as Nintendo can still surprise us but it's not quite the same as stage show, and buzz that happens like with Sony's last year. Only game I think your missing from the list which might be shown is Sonic Boom. - Microsoft Game On:

I do wish it were a live show. I was watching the Twilight Princess reveal from 2004 (TEN YEARS AGO) and that excitement with all the cheering really added to it. Such a magical moment. When you stop and think about it, it is a really embarrassing way for adult, professional journalists to act but it is fun. |

| Being ultra negative as I am right now I'm honestly expecting nothing interesting to come from this. We already have the release month of the pokemon remakes, smash has so many frequent updates that simply showing it won't get the hype juices flowing, and I'm fully expecting x to either just disappear completely this year or receive no actual release date and take forever to come out. The rest that will be shown will likely be fun and pleasant games, but not the type that get my hype juices flowing.
Despite all that I'm confident their showing will still be vastly better than sony and microsoft's, but that's more because neither company frankly has anything exciting to show off to begin with than anything else. |

The RS remake announcements really don't make sense, unless Nintendo's E3 is going to be so chock full of stuff that they'd be blown out of the water, or (more likely) the Nintendo PR machine is on the blink again. - Drunkalilly wrote:

That's NINTENDO unfair, Drunka. As NINTENDO an admin., I adopt anINTENDO ARE THE BEST unbiased approach to SONY SUX all points of view, and that M$ SUX includes giving all of the Big Three NINTENDO FOREVER ALLELUIA their proper place in the sun. MS stuff added to the OP. As is Sonic Boom, but not without misgivings - can't see that turning out as anything but rubbish at the moment. |

| I've just added Sony & 3rd Party's to my first post and edited the Microsoft one as well.
My thought's on Sonic Boom it's either going to be terrible (like all sonic titles hehe, before drunka says something) or excellent & puts the actual sonic team to shame especially with the team behind Booms pedigree.
On Microsoft I think I'm the only one on the forum that really cares and I'm not that bothered, I'll watch and think Halo 5 looks good and that be it.
On Sony there line up looks really impressive but no real WOW factor, and seeing how well they did at E3 last year & these past month's it be hard to top. I know a lot of the forum do have sony systems, so these guys will get talked about quite a bit I would think during E3.
On Third Party's, this all depends on who turns up where if Hideo is on sony stage showing MGSV:PP I'll be pleased but I think we know a lot what to aspect from them all. |

Platinum are clearly becoming the gamer's David Cage- uncommercial titles that first parties will bankroll for credibility. |

But haven't platinum said before there pretty exclusive to Nintendo now.
Also X is suppose to be this year according to the financial report. |

| Perhaps, perhaps not. Pokemon has always at least to me felt like it was outside of the e3 impact, if that makes any sense. By that I mean it appearing at e3 doesn't have much of an effect for it, nor the reverse. The main games are usually well promoted, with a drip feed of information from their announcement to their release, e3 usually just being part of it. Besides, now they've got the boring "these games exist" announcement out of the way that ups the odds of whatever we get from e3 being something juicy! |

On Ryse 2 Jay, it does seem a odd one but maybe crytek has some sort of deal like capcom had on the cube and have to make a certain amount games, so they just chuck out a sequel to Ryse or maybe Microsoft really do want to make it a franchise like how God of War is to Sony.
Are we doing E3 Bingo / Predictions or anything like that. |

| Thanks for reminding me - I've just done the same. I'll only be watching Nintendo, but I'd like to be home in time to catch it. Here's something I did in the previous E3 thread: a list of things I'd love to see. Somewhat fantastical (and by "somewhat" I mean "very"), but I thought it'd be interesting to go back through and see how many actually happened, and how many might happen this time: - Spoiler:
- Mario Universe to be more 64[ than Galaxy in style. Big open levels, stars/Shines/whatever can be got in almost any order. Haha, no.
- New Paper Mario for Wii U. Pad would be ideal for manipulating paper. Is good, like TTYD; not average, like SS. No, and I can't see it happening this time either.
- A new Zelda revealed. Uses both Motion+ and the Wii U controller. Features a proper overworld (looking at you, Skyward Sword). Can't see Motion+ being part of it, but surely this is a shoe-in for this year. Surely.
- Nintendo announce the first multi-Wii U Pad game. It's a Four Swords game. They also announce a drastic price cut in pads. Nope.
- The new Retro game is Metroid Prime, and they're going back to basics. That means no NPCs. May be unimaginative, but I don't know who could do it better. A could-be for this year.
- There's another Retro game that's something completely different. Happened last year. Was disappointing.
- Treasure-developed Starfox. Could we see Star Fox this year? Not completely out of the question.
- Sega-developed F-Zero. HAHAHAHAHA.
- Camelot-developed Mario Strikers. What's happened to this franchise? I wonder if we'll see Mario Strikers on the 3DS, with the other Mario sports games.
- SSB4 for both consoles. 3DS version is some sort of RPG thing with Wii U connectivity. Miis are in, Sonic is out. SSB4 was announced for both consoles, and that was about it. There's still time to announce Miis! But don't dwell on these games please. We know that they exist.
- New 3D Pokémon, is not a MMORPG. If it wanted to channel Pokémon XD, I'd be fine with that. We'll see OR/AS fo' sho', and possibly Pokken, but neither is a proper Wii U 3D Pokémon game.
- Mother 4 announced for all locations. Either console will do. Nope. Will be for Japan at best, and hence not announced in the Digital Event.
- Ice Climbers 2 has you climbing a variety of terrains, all around a single huge mountain. Like that one good SSX in reverse. I'm not ruling this one out. Nintendo could completely blindside us with an old franchise, like they did with KIU; and with the Climbers in Smash and yet to be announced, it's not impossible that it'll be them.
- More JRPGs than you can shake a stick (+10 Atk) at for both consoles, including a Muramasa sequel. Muramasa sequel seems more likely on Vita to be honest. X and Bravely Second, along with the Pokémon RS remakes, should give this genre a good representation.
- New Meteos for 3DS!!! PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE but no.
- Finally, Shenmue 3 as a Wii U exclusive (and the previous two re-released on Wii U in enhanced form). Mostly to piss off CVG as a whole. Come on, Sega/Nintendo, you know you want to...
Still a pretty good lists of fantasies for this year, given that only two of them happened last year (DKCTF, SSB4 sort of) and only one was ruled out ( Mario Not-Universe). Yup, I'll go with this again! And possibly a Mario & Luigi game for Wii U.
