Slightly off topic but you seen the video from Jim Sterling about the Tron Steam game? |

| Aye the one about SecuRom being a con.
It's the reason spore was once the most pirated game in history. |

| It seemed pretty bad, I can understand the licence ending and no longer being for sell but stopping people that installed playing is all sorts of wrong.
Just going to get worse I feel going into next-gen with cloud gaming and things like game pass along with moving more towards digital in general. |

| Stadia would be a big part of that problem if it succeeded. As it is, the value of Gamepass is doing a very effective job of ushering in the digital-only future. |

| It is and I've said in the past about if all digital happens which it will I prefer the Netflix like route with Game Pass. As paying £50-60 for a digital game which you might not like, lend to a friend etc is a lot on top off it could just disappear, also the case for service games even if physical such as Battleborn.
Stadia and hopefully will do a podcast on it with EofGiz, problem is pricing etc not that it's cloud or all digital. |

| But we're already seeing the end of the golden age of Netflix, with all the other companies wanting to make their own versions.

| That's what will happen with games even likes of Reggie have said recently cloud gaming is where it will go.
We will just have PlayStation/Netflix, Nintendo/Disney Plus, Ubisoft/CBS, Xbox/Hulu and so on |

| No, we'll have XBox/ Playstation for a little while, but then that'll lose all its games and we'll have EA, Ubisoft, Square, Bethesda, 2K all plugging their own service. |

| Maybe but both Xbox and PlayStation have there own studios about 14 each with Xbox geared up better as already got Game Pass and XCloud interwoven.
Agree about all the big publishers having own service, Ubisoft even have UPlay+ coming in 2020. The indies and smaller studios would be come exclusive on all these things different platforms such as how Netflix buys a anime at the moment which is on there's but not original content. |

| Might be but these companies are investing heavily in cloud and like I said you've got people like Reggie saying it's the future. |

| People might be wrong and Stadia might be a flop, XCloud might not take off and both PS5 & XSX might sell 100m each with traditional buying a game still the norm.
I can only say from my perspective, my buying habits have changed due to Game Pass and I know it has for TV & Movies. With smarter people than me saying it. |

| It does sound awful, but I think you're right - now I have about 6 gaming front-ends on my PC, I suspect that these will splinter into separate gaming subscription models; the PS6 and XBXOOXXOXXXOXSXBOX will just be vessels for these, with few exclusives, and Nintendo holding on the longest.
I also predict mas will buy at least 1 switch and 1 Switch Lite in 5 years. |

| Netflix for games would suck. How would a subscription model work for indies? Would they be paid per unit of time spent in their games? Wouldn't the economics of a flix model encourage games as a service BS and discourage any form of linear content? Say goodbye to single player rpg or horror games.
The PC will always remain an open platform though. People love mods and the fact that they can keep an entire library. |

| Game Pass gets a lot of indies games and how I'll be playing a lot of them like Streets of Rage 4 instead of buying it. With a few stats saying it's been positive (Google Descenders) but of course you can still buy the game, DLC etc if it were to leave Game Pass, where on Netflix you'd have to go buy it on another platform or home video if it went like Grinch recently.
That's now of course but I was saying above, I guess in the future Jimbob makes a game then the Ubisoft service has paid Jimbob to have it just on theirs, much like Netflix keeps buying the friends license. |

| This is just the sort of terrifying future I'd expect from this planet given recent developments in other areas. Almost makes me feel grateful for the 'I'll get it if it comes out at retail' crowd on Nintendo Life, who historically I've found quite annoying. |

That sort of future gives me the fear - the concept of owning your games is a concept that's fading fast, it seems. God bless Nintendo for marching to the beat of their own drum. |

| I should point out to everyone that while Microsoft may go that way soon, it will be a long ol' while before Japanese companies like Sony and Nintendo do. Here in Japan, people still buy movies, TV shows, music and even porn on physical media on the reg. |

| It still be year's away even in the west.
You always hear about Japan and the lack of space, why over here people always think handhelds do well, yet physical media is still big which takes up space. |
